Read all instructions before beginning. Sew right sides (2) 4.5” strips. Subcut into (4) 15.5” rectangles. together and use a 1/4” unless otherwise instructed. Cut (2) 2” strips. Subcut into (4) 12.5” rectangles.

Supplies Cut (2) 11” strips. off selvedges. - Cut (1) 6.5” strip. Subcut into Lining - 1.25 yards From Star fabric (2) 6.5” squares. Background - 1.25 yards Star Fabric - 1 fat quarter Cut (3) 3.5” strips. Subcut into (16) 3.5” squares. Binding - 1/4 yard Soft & Stable - 1 yard x 58” (purchase here) From Binding fabric - Cut (2) 2.5” strips. Trim off selvedges. Cutting Instructions Lining From Lining fabric - Cut (1) 15.5” strip. Subcut into (2) 20.5” rectangles. 1. Using the template on the last page, trim off top corners of both 20.5” rectangles. This is the front Cut (2) 11” strips. Trim off selvedges. and the back of your lining

From Background - Cut (2) 3.5” strips. Subcut into 2. Sew two short ends of 11” rectangles together. (8) 3.5” squares and (8) 6.5” rectangles. Press. Trim to 45”. This is the lining .

4. Pin and sew the opposite side of gusset to the back of lining with a 1/2” seam allowance. Press.

Leave lining cover turned inside out. Put aside for now.

Stars

1. Draw a diagonal line on the back of all 3.5” squares in the star fabric. There are 16 of them.

2. Place (1) of the 3.5” squares onto one corner of the 3.5x6.5“ rectangles Sew directly on drawn lines. Repeat for all 8 rectangles.

3. Using a rotary cutter and ruler, cut 1/4” from stitched line. Press. Repeat for all 8 rectangles.

4. Place another 3.5” square onto the opposite corner of rectangles Sew directly on drawn lines. Repeat for all 8 rectangles.

5. Using a rotary cutter and ruler, cut 1/4” from stitched line. Press. Repeat for all 8 rectangles.

7. Sew each row together. Alternate the directions of the seams per row (arrows show which way to press seams).

8. Sew rows together. Press seams open.

Front + Back Cover

1. Lay out front and back of cover as shown to the right.

2. Sew top and bottom rectangles to star block. Press towards rectangles.

3. Sew left and right side onto star block. Press towards rectangles.

There will be 2 units as shown below. This is the front and back of your cover.

1. Sew two short ends of 11” rectangles together. Press. Trim to 45”. This is the lining gusset.

Stabilize + Quilt

1. Unfold and spread out your Soft + Stable. Place all your pieces on it so that there is space between them all. Baste all three pieces to stabilizer.

2. Using a rotary cutter, cut around each piece, leaving plenty of stabilizer on the outside of your pieces.

3. Quilt as desired on all three pieces. For a free motion quilting tutorial see this post.

4. Trim excess stabilizer from all three pieces using your rotary cutter. Use corner template (on last page) to trim corners from front and back pieces.

1. Sew gusset onto front cover with a 1/2” seam allowance. Press.

2. Sew the opposite side of the gusset to the back cover with a 1/2” seam allowance. Press.

To make this process easier. Find the centers for front and back and both sides of your gusset. Finger press. Pin centers of gusset to center of front cover, and then pin ends together. Fill in between and then sew. Repeat for the opposite side. Turn right side out.

Finishing

1. Place lining inside the cover. When looking inside cover, lining should be showing the right side of the fabric.

2. Pin edges together and sew all the way around with a 1/8” seam allowance.

3. Make your binding double fold and sew binding to the inside of your machine cover. Fold over to the front and machine or hand using your favorite method.

Be sure when printing that you print actual size. Do not “fit to page” or scale. If curve is not exact, the gusset will not fit correctly to your cover pieces. Use the 1” square box to double check that printing is correct.

Pin template in place on the left corner of lining and outside pieces and cut around just the curve. To trim the right corners of your pieces, flip template over so that it is a mirror opposite.
