Packaging In 2007, Americans generated 78 million tons of container and packaging waste. We’re committed to helping reduce that number by developing more environmentally friendly packaging solutions, eliminating PVC and reducing our net packaging materials. Kohler Co. redesigned its retail packaging in 2011 and saved over 3 million pounds total weight corrugate.

Net-Zero Progress Water With four out of ten people in the world affected by water scarcity, water conservation is crucial. Kohler already has saved millions of gallons of water annually by reclaiming and reusing rinse water at our faucet manufacturing facility and in our product testing labs. In 2011 alone, we saved more than 60 million gallons of water – about 90 Olympic-size swimming pools.

Energy Kohler has been incorporating energy efﬁciency and reducing dependence on natural gas since the 1970s when we installed waste-heat recovery systems to capture and reuse pottery kiln exhaust. In 2010, we saved 200 terajoules of energy – equal to the energy delivered by 200 tanker trucks of diesel – and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 19,000 metric tons carbon dioxide equivalents.

Green Building As a growing global company, our renovation and new building projects are ongoing. Our sustainability goals include incorporating green building principles into all of our facilities. In November 2011, Kohler Co. took a historic step in its sustainability journey with the grand opening of its first Gold-level LEED-certified office building in Zibo, China. Bold.
