Clanin (b. 1940) was born in Anderson, Indiana, and received his B.S. from Purdue University, his M.A. from Indiana University, and is ABD from the University of Wisconsin. He worked on The Documentary History Of The First Federal Elections and The Documentary History of the Ratification of the Constitution project while at University of Wisconsin, 1970–80, and came to the Indiana Historical Society in September 1980 to serve as editor the William Henry Harrison Project which culminated in the multi- microfilm reel publication The Papers of William Henry Harrison (Indianapolis: Indiana Historical Society, 1999).
