  • Dr. Ralph, the Ryman, & the Redneck Taco: Martin's BBQ Joint of Nolensville, Tennessee
Dr. Ralph, The Ryman, & the Redneck Taco: Martin’s BBQ Joint of Nolensville, Tennessee Posted on July 22, 2013 I finally made good on a trip I’d wanted to make for some time. I headed north to Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium for one of their summer Bluegrass Nights. The equally legendary, and nearly as old, Ralph Stanley was headlining in possibly his last full concert appearance at the Mother Church. A farewell concert by a first generation Bluegrass legend at ground zero for Bluegrass music was a recipe for success. Always on the lookout for new places to eat, I noticed that Southern food guru John T. Edge had listed something called the Redneck Taco at Nolensville’s Martin’s BBQ Joint on his Garden & Gun 100 Southern Foods. There’s not a better combination than barbeque and Bluegrass, so I put Nolensville onto my travel map and started toward Nashville. Martin’s apparently used to be a bit more of a hole in the wall (which I enjoy), but the new place is a stand alone building in nicer shopping area. Good sign number one: smoke was billowing out. The smell of pork filled the air. The inside is properly porky, signs and artifacts cover the walls. The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait time when I was there. You walk by a very large menu board that highlights “The Notorious Redneck Taco.” There are several meat options, each with its own sauce recommendation. I went with the basic pulled pork with Sweet Dixie Sauce.

September 8, 2009 Issue 157 Gold Dependent On PD Background? A funny thing happened on the way to checking out the Top 100 most-played Country radio Power Gold. I ran the PG list as normal, using Mediabase 24/7 for all CA/Mediabase reporting stations for the two-week period Aug. 23-Sept. 5, 2009. • LORRIE MORGAN PUBLICITY BIO 2016 One of the Most Eloquently
LORRIE MORGAN PUBLICITY BIO 2016 One of the most eloquently emotive country vocalists of modern times is launching her first new solo album in five years. Lorrie Morgan, the first woman in her genre to begin her career with three consecutive Platinum albums, re-emerges on Shanachie Entertainment with Letting Go….Slow. It is a collection that showcases a rainbow of emotions, from darkest heartache to bright, shiny humor. “Where I am in my life right now, I’m not afraid to express what I feel, or what I don’t feel,” she comments about the collection’s varied moods. “I’m not afraid to express my views on anything, especially on being a woman. “I have been a daughter, a bride, a mother, a divorcee, a widow, a single mother, a breadwinner and, ultimately, a survivor. In many ways, I am a living, breathing country song, and I know what I sing. “I didn’t want this to be just another album. I wanted it to be something that really moved me. When I listened to songs for it, I’d think, ‘No, not that one. I’m not going to be able to sing that one, because I’m not going to be able to feel it.’ It was very important to me for this album to reflect the things that I am feeling today.” Morgan has long been the envy of her peers for her lustrous vocal phrasing and the down-to-earth believability of her torchy performances. On records such as “A Picture of Me Without You” and “I Guess You Had to Be There,” she ached with pain.

  • Keith Whitley
2011 Induction Class Jackie Keith Whitley Jackie Keith Whitley was born on July 1, 1954, in Sandy Hook, KY. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 6 and appeared on Buddy Starcher’s regional TV show at age 8. In 1969, Whitley entered a musical contest with his brother in Ezell, Kentucky, and there he met Ricky Skaggs; they were instantly great friends. Skaggs and Whitley were later discovered by Ralph Stanley while playing as an opening act for the Clinch Mountain Boys Band. Upon hearing them, Stanley hired them, and for two summers Whitley and Skaggs played for Stanley until Whitley left to work with Carl Jackson in 1972. Whitley came back to Stanley in 1974, this time as the lead vocalist. Throughout the mid seventies, Whitley also performed with J.D. Crowe & The New South. His major influences were Carter Stanley and Lefty Frizzell. In the early 1980’s, Whitley moved to Nashville to pursue his country music career. Soon after, he signed with RCA Records. His first album with RCA, was titled “ A Hard Act To Follow” . During the next four years, he was able to hone in on his own sound. His next album, “ L.A. to Miami” , was released in 1986, and gained him his first top 20 hit single, “Miami, My Amy”. There were three more hit singles from the “ L.A. to Miami” album, “Ten Feet Away”, “Homecoming ‘63”, and “Hard Livin’”. While on tour to promote “ L.A. to Miami” , Whitley met and fell in love with Lorrie Morgan.
