  • Dr. Ralph, the Ryman, & the Redneck Taco: Martin's BBQ Joint of Nolensville, Tennessee
Dr. Ralph, The Ryman, & the Redneck Taco: Martin’s BBQ Joint of Nolensville, Tennessee Posted on July 22, 2013 I finally made good on a trip I’d wanted to make for some time. I headed north to Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium for one of their summer Bluegrass Nights. The equally legendary, and nearly as old, Ralph Stanley was headlining in possibly his last full concert appearance at the Mother Church. A farewell concert by a first generation Bluegrass legend at ground zero for Bluegrass music was a recipe for success. Always on the lookout for new places to eat, I noticed that Southern food guru John T. Edge had listed something called the Redneck Taco at Nolensville’s Martin’s BBQ Joint on his Garden & Gun 100 Southern Foods. There’s not a better combination than barbeque and Bluegrass, so I put Nolensville onto my travel map and started toward Nashville. Martin’s apparently used to be a bit more of a hole in the wall (which I enjoy), but the new place is a stand alone building in nicer shopping area. Good sign number one: smoke was billowing out. The smell of pork filled the air. The inside is properly porky, signs and artifacts cover the walls. The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait time when I was there. You walk by a very large menu board that highlights “The Notorious Redneck Taco.” There are several meat options, each with its own sauce recommendation. I went with the basic pulled pork with Sweet Dixie Sauce.

  • This Week the Beatles Anthology, Coming Soon to a TV Set Near You, Is Unlikely to Unleash a New Wave of Beatlemania
E IN RADIO OCTOBER 2 This Week The Beatles Anthology, coming soon to a TV set near you, is unlikely to unleash a new wave of Beatlemania. But for :hose of us old and lucky enough to have been caught up in that British Invasion of '64, it'll be a nice revisit to those times, espec ally with Capitol's release of the first two of six CDs of Beatles rari- ties. For those who missed out on the Beatles in their prime, this is their best shot at the full story. And for the companies involved in the production- Apple Corps, Inc., ABC-TV, and Capitol/EMI-it's a big -backs bonanza. They are taking no chances, how- ever. As we report inside, the total cost of the market- ing of Anthology will be around $20 million. Our package, put together by our managing editor, Ben Fong -Torres, gives you a head start on all the hype, and includes revisits with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Yoko Ono; with Top 40 at the height of the craziness, and with Dave Rothstein, a Gavin staffer who's not ashamed that, at 40 -something, he's still a Beatlemaniac. In News, Danny Goldberg (top) takes the helm at Mercury Records. Pearl Jam tops a poll of music executives; Entertairment Weekly offers its own power poll, and music loses Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon (mid- dle). In Rap, we remember hip - `THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY' hop activist Funken-Klein. an the GO Chart, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories, Melissa Etheridge (bot- BRINGS THE FAB FOUR BACK..

September 8, 2009 Issue 157 Gold Dependent On PD Background? A funny thing happened on the way to checking out the Top 100 most-played Country radio Power Gold. • Box Sets Are Absolute Must Haves!!
June 2009 Newsletter --------------------------------------- Yesterday & Today Records PO Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone (02) 95311710 [email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------------------- It has been a while between drinks but all has been pretty good on this end. Had my first overseas buying trip in nearly 9 years and actually got to Nashville this time round. Let me say it was just wonderful. Music City USA is a great place. The people are friendly and there is a down home quality. The Country Music Hall of Fame has so much class. There is currently a Hank Williams exhibit but the whole place is just brilliant. Nothing hokey just brilliant fun all the way. Then I was lucky enough to be able to see the “Always Patsy Cline” show at the Ryman Auditorium. What a building!! It is hard to believe that there was a time in the 70s it was going to be demolished. Starring Mandy Barnett in the title role and the hilarious Tere Myers it is rivetting. Mandy is so good as Patsy that for the show’s duration she ceased to exist. That was Patsy Cline on stage or so it seemed. Every subtle movement and vocal inflection was how you would have imagined Patsy. And Mandy like Patsy is all woman!! The other highlight was seeing Hugh Moffatt in the round at the Bluebird Café. The Bluebird has the word SHH!! plastered around and as strange as it may seem everybody there actually does listen. What next! That is something a lot of people in Australia would not believe.

Maybe bec ause record buyers didn't understand what she was doing? Maybe young Americans didn't know who she was (the title assumes they did)?
