Sv ir id o v received 24.II.2000 Summary: 630 species of the Noctuidae are listed for the modern Volgo-Ural fauna. 2 species [Mesapamea hedeni Graeser and Amphidrina amurensis Staudinger ) are noted from Europe for the first time and one more— Nycteola siculana Fuchs —from Russia. 3 species ( Catocala optata Godart , Helicoverpa obsoleta Fabricius , Pseudohadena minuta Pungeler ) are deleted from the list. Supposedly they were either erroneously determinated or incorrect noted from the region under consideration since Eversmann 's work. 289 species are recorded from the re gion in addition to Eversmann 's list. This paper is the fifth in a series of publications1 dealing with the composition of the pres ent-day fauna of noctuid-moths in the Middle Volga and the south-western Cisurals. This re gion comprises the administrative divisions of the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Uljanovsk, Orenburg, Uralsk and Atyraus (= Gurjev) Districts, together with Tataria and Bash kiria. The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin. -

Bulgaria: Birding The Black Sea Coast : May 2018 Rose-Coloured Starlings Pastor roseus at Cape Kaliakra Report compiled by Ed.O’Hara with images by Comghal McQuillan and Ed.O’Hara Foreward: Initially I had planned to do this trip two years ago but due to family reasons I could only do so this spring and was joined by fellow birder Comghal McQuillan. Our guides were supplied by www.neophrontours.bg for their four day spring birding tour of the coastal areas of the Black Sea. Sunday 20 May 2018: Sarafovo : Overcast / Sunny spells. We flew out to Bourgas Airport the day before the trip began, so that we could ‘rest up’ before the four days of intensive birding began. We left Dublin at 06:00 and arrived in Bourgas at 12:00 [local time], roughly a four hour flight. Our hotel was the Mirana Family Hotel in Sarafovo, a 15 minute walk from the airport, which we did walk to, when we were asked to give some exorbitant fare for the five minute drive by the local taxi men. Having checked in by 14:00 Comghal and I went for a walk along the beach in the direction of Bourgas City, to an old saltpan which appeared to be no longer in use, by the state of the buildings. This walk proved productive and Comghal started to notch up the first of his eventual 35 lifers for the trip. Olivaceous Warblers were singing all along the track, along with Golden Oriole, Yellow Wagtails feldegg, Common Whitethroat and Blackcap. A Booted Eagle flew over, and a White Pelican was sitting out in the sea, 200m from the marina. -

A census of migratingwaders in Bulgaria during March-May 1990. Wader Study Group Bull. 83: 37-43. A censuswas conductedat 14 principalareas for migratorywaders in Bulgaria. A total of 32 wader species were observed, representing40,802 individuals. The migration was at its maximum at the end of March and early April with 38% of records. Another migration wave occurredduring the second half of May. The greatest numbers of migrants were Ruffs Philomachuspugnax, which comprised35% of total wader numbers, followed by Curlew Sandpiper Calidrisferruginea (17.7%), and then Avocet Recurvirostra avosetta (11%). A wide range of nectar sources had persisted until mid- summer, and when the sun came out at least, attracted large numbers and a rich diversity of butterflies. We explored from the lowlands to the high mountains, in weather that varied from warm and humid, to very hot and dry, albeit with persistent northerly winds on the last couple of days. In total the week produced 113 species of butterfly, together with many dazzling day-flying moths (particularly burnets) and other wonderful bugs and beasties. And almost nightly moth trapping gave us a window into the night-life, albeit dominated by Pine Processionaries, but with a good sample of the big, beautiful and bizarre. Add in to the mix the stunning scenery, a good range of mountain birds, a few mammals and reptiles, and wonderful food, drink and accommodation at Casa Sarasa: the perfect recipe for an outstanding holiday! Day 1 Wednesday 6th July We arrived at Zaragoza Airport, met Peter, and boarded the minibuses to be taken to Casa Sarasa in Berdún; it was sunny and hot, but there were still a few interesting birds to be seen en route, including White Stork, Booted Eagle, and Red and Black Kites. -

Entomologiske Meddelelser Indeks for Bind 1-67 (1887-1999) Entomologisk Forening København 2000 FORORD Tidsskriftet "Entomologiske Meddelelser" - Entomologisk Forenings medlemsblad - blev grundlagt i 1887, og er således det ældste danske entomologiske tidsskrift, som stadig udgives. Det har siden sin start haft til formål at udbrede kendskabet til entomologien i almindelighed og dansk entomologi i særdeleshed. De første 5 bind udkom i årene 1887-1896 og omhandlede primært artikler af særlig relevans for dansk entomologi. Herefter skiftede det format, såvel rent fysisk som (mere gradvis) indholdsmæssigt, og fik efterhånden et mere internationalt tilsnit med en vis andel af bl.a. tysk- og engelsksprogede artikler. I forbindelse med overgangen til det nye format, benævntes tidsskriftet nu som "Entomologiske Meddelelser, 2. Række" og nummereringen af de enkelte bind startede forfra. Efter at have praktiseret denne nummerering i nogle år, droppedes dog betegnelsen "2. Række", og man vendte tilbage til at nummerere bindene fortløbende fra det først udkomne bind. Efter at tidsskriftet op igennem 1900-tallet havde fået et stigende indhold af artikler med internationalt sigte, blev det fra bind 39 (1971) besluttet at koncentrere indholdet til primært dansksprogede artikler af særlig relevans for den danske fauna. Samtidig overgik de enkelte bind til at udgøre årgange i stedet for, som tidligere, at være flerårige. "Entomologiske Meddelelser" har siden sin start bragt hen mod 1600 originale, videnskabelige artikler eller mindre meddelelser, næsten 500 boganmeldelser, over 100 biografier eller nekrologer over primært danske entomologer, samt enkelte meddelelser af anden slags. For at lette overskueligheden over den meget betydelige mængde af information disse publikationer rummer, har Entomologisk Forenings bestyrelse fundet tiden moden til at sammenstille et indeks over indholdet af samtlige udkomne numre af "Entomologiske Meddelser" til og med bind 67 (årgang 1999).
