Tullamore is the county town of County Offaly. Located in the centre of the county, it is the fourth most populous town in the Midlands region and it is arguably the most central town in Ireland, located halfway between Dublin and Galway.
Tullamore has its share of fine buildings, such as St Catherine’s, a Gothic Revival church of 1818. Charleville Castle, which is located on the south western edge of town on the road to Birr, is one of Ireland’s most splendid Gothic Revival buildings and stands in beautiful woodland containing many splendid oak trees.
Visitors to the town can now enjoy the sites and learn about their history through the new Tullamore Town Historical Tour, an audio tour that can be downloaded and listened to on their phone,
Just south of Tullamore are the unique ‘Lough Boora’ parklands. The boglands are a landscape for a wide range of flora and fauna. The wetlands and wildlife wilderness of Lough Boora now host some of the most innovative land and environmental sculptures in Ireland.
