Overall, Land is entering his 15th season as a Golden Rams coach. Land joined the ASU Golden Rams football squad as a running back in 1983 and enjoyed a stellar football career. Land earned honors in high school, collegiate and professional ath- letics. In 1984, he was part of the first S.I.A.C Football Championship team at Albany State College. In his first season, Land led the Golden Rams to a 6-4 overall record and a appearance in the SIAC Championship game. Land's interest in football sparked when he joined the 1979 Seminole County High School Indians football team, where he was a four-year letterman and all-star running and defensive back. As an Albany State Golden Ram, Land was a two-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Dan Land Athletic Conference (SIAC) team member. He led the Rams in rushing as a junior with Albany State 1,299 yards and 1,396 yards as a senior. He also led the team and the SIAC in rushing touchdowns. His collegiate success led him to the National Football League (NFL). The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him as a running back in 1987, and he later played with the Oakland Raiders as a defensive back. Land, who earned his graduate and undergraduate degrees from ASU, served as director of athletics at Albany State from November 1998 until June 2001. Land is also an instructor in ASU's Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. In 2005, Land was inducted into the Albany State University’s Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Albany, Ga. where he serves as a member of the Deacon Board. Land and his wife, former ASU cheerleader Theresa Spurlin, are the parents of two daughters, Dannisha and Mimeaux, and one son Dan Land, Jr. and a grandson named Lathan. Dannisha is also an ASU graduate. His daughter Mimeaux attends Clemson University where she is a member of the Lady Tigers' track & field team. Dan Land, Jr. is a sophomore at Westover Comprehensive High School where he also plays on the Patriots football team. Kevin Ramsey takes over as Interim Head Coach of the Clark Atlanta University Panthers football team on July 13th, after spending the previous three seasons as the defensive coordina- tor at Alabama State University, a NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) member school. Last season Ramsey formed the ASU defense into one of the top in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), finishing the season second in scoring defense (24.7). ASU was also sec- ond in the SWAC in rushing defense as well as defensive pass efficiency. During his first season with ASU in 2012, Ramsey’s attacking style of defense made it hard on the opposition’s running game as the Hornets allowed just 110.1 yards rushing per game, which not only led the SWAC but was good enough for 11th nationally. ASU led the SWAC in quarterback sacks (50), a 4.17 per game average that placed ASU second among all FCS teams. Ramsey served in the same capacity at Texas Southern University from 2009-10, and during part of the 2012 season, with a stint as interim head coach during the 2011 campaign. Prior to Texas Southern, Ramsey spent five seasons as defensive coordinator at Carson- Kevin Ramsey Newman (2004-08), where his units ranked in the top 20 in several national categories each sea- Clark Atlanta University son. Ramsey began his coaching career at Kansas State (1984-85) as a graduate assistant, before moving on to serve as junior varsity defensive coordinator at Mission High School in Mission, Texas (1986). Ramsey would then continue his career at some of the nation’s biggest schools - Kansas State (1987-89, outside line- backers), Northwestern (1990-92, defensive line/defensive backs), West Virginia (1993-94, defensive backs), Tennessee (1995-98, defensive backs), Georgia (1999, defensive coordinator) and Michigan State (2000, defensive backs).
