Because of the possible consequences, he was advised to take the place of a detective in Gotham City. Shortly after arriving in Gotham, he realized that this city was much more corrupt than Chicago. His only ally seemed to be a suspected crime fighter, Batman. Working with Batman, he managed to reduce corruption in Gotham and reduce the crime rate. He knows that Batman is the only one he can really trust, but at the same time, the Dark Knight is not here because of his personal problems, so Jim closes in on himself. His vice - smoking (sometimes cigarettes, sometimes cigars). Batman may seem to be here to help Jim, but it's not. Their cooperation is mutual. Bruce doesn't know what he'd do without Jim. He doesn't like his methods of tracking and then torturing crimes because it breaks the law. Eventually, they collided. After the interview, they decided to put their differences aside and suppress the crime in Gotham together. Over time, Jim was promoted to the rank of Gotham Police Commissioner, becoming Batman's intermediary with the police. This is Gordon, who most often calls Batman to help fight Post-crisis after Crisis on Infinite Lands James Gordon was re-introduced to the world of Batman in Batman: Year One by Frank Miller. Here he is a veteran of special forces with a lot of experience in combat like pistols and guns and shooting. He served as a police detective. Gordon was the best in his job in Chicago. He and his pregnant wife Barbara moved to corrupt Gotham because of problems at his police station. As Jim arrested and withdrew some of his colleagues because of corruption, he was advised to leave the city. The real reason, however, is that they wanted to get rid of it because of the possible bad publicity of their department, so they transferred it to Gotham themselves. Even before meeting Batman, Jim's first case in Gotham was the Peter-Pan Killer case. It was about a murderer who sued children in their sleep from their beds and killed them. When he learned that his superior had released the main suspect from prison, he went to pursue him in the hope of preventing further killings. Yet just like Chicago, Jim was the only honest cop in Gotham City. But he soon discovers that his ally (probably the only one) in the fight against crime is Batman. Jim spoke to Batman only in private and out of reach and in the eyes of the police. When he needed to contact the Dark Knight, he turned on the Bat-Singal on the roof of the Gotham Police Department in the East End. During the first year, Jim's son, James Gordon Jr., was born. When he was kidnapped by bandits who wanted to take revenge on Jim, he was rescued by Batman without a mask - Bruce Wayne. But Jim lost his glasses, without which he was almost blind, so he didn't recognize Batman's identity. This story also begins with Gordon's affair with his future wife Sarah Essen, which devalues an already fragile relationship with his current wife Barbara. Long Halloween Then Police Capt. Jim Gordon teamed up with Batman and State Attorney Harvey Dent to fight organized crime in Gotham. Unfortunately, he witnessed Harvey Dent becoming a two-faced criminal, while the city suffers from Holliday's killer. Jim becomes the new police commissioner here. He then tries to convince the new DA of Batman's usefulness when the Dark Knight tries to catch the Two-Faced. Nightly screams in the midst of a series of horrific crimes in the city that link the abduction of children, Gordon's marriage falls apart. His wife, Barbara, leaves him and returns to Chicago with James Jr., his son. A murderous joke during the story Murder Joke, the Joker shoots and paralyzes Jim's daughter Barbara (originally his niece, but adopted her after the death of her parents) and kidnaps him. Undresses him naked, locks in a cage in an abandoned park and make him look at pictures of his badly beaten daughter to drive him crazy. The Joker later acknowledges his intentions. He wanted to prove that everyone could go crazy after one stupid day. But Jim was able to withstand his madness and tells Batman to arrest the Joker in the world. He showed him that his and Batman's journey worked, too. Barbara, however, constantly horses from the waist down and begins to use a wheelchair. No Mans Land Before No Man's Land, Jim falls in love with his colleague, Sarah Essen, who is back in Gotham. After a while he marries her, but the relationship quickly deteriorates. Essen often asks why Jim needs Batman so much, and it really strains their relationship. She was eventually shot by the Joker as she tried to save a group of children. At the same time, the Joker almost managed to provoke Jim to kill him. But the Commissioner will convince Batman not to. Instead, Jim only shoots the Joker in the leg to maim him. The Joker figured it out like a waffle for Barbara's shoot, so he laughed uncontrollably. Since Batman mysteriously left town during this history series and then returned as if nothing had happened, he lost Jim's trust. He wanted it back, so he intended to reveal his identity. He hoped it would symbolize his confidence in Jim. But when he started taking off the mask, Jim turned his back and asked him to wear it, saying he didn't want to know who he was. Then their relationship is normal. Evolution After Sa's death, Jim leaves his post within 10 weeks to mourn her death. Immediately after his return, he is going on a case against the family of the mafia spit. However, because of his current mental state, he does not keep it cool and thus gets into trouble from which Batman will help him. Then Gordon and the Dark Knight are working together closer and closer than ever. Officer Down Jim retires after more than 20 years of service. He stays in Gotham and sometimes visits Batman at night. Despite being officially out of order, Jim is suspiciously often found in very unpleasant, even life-threatening, situations. For example, when the Joker sends him flowers during the story Last Laugh, or when he was contacted temporarily cured by Harvey Dent to stop Batman from killing the Joker in Batman: Silence. Finally, he kidnapped Francis Sullivan, grandson of one of Gotham's famous killers, during the story Made of Wood. After Sullivan's attack, Batman gives Jim an encrypted cell phone to contact him directly on Batfon. Jim is often asked to contact Batman for various criminal cases. Barbara, his adopted daughter, passes to save his life from the Brainiac virus, and Jim visits her in Metropolis. She tells him about her current role as Oracle and her past role as Batgirl. Jim admits that he knew about Batgirl, but is pleasantly surprised by her new life. One year later, one year after the Endless Crisis, Jim returns to gotham police as commissioner. In particular, he says that he returned for three months, and also returned with his ex-wife Barbara. Upon his return, he re-borrows a bat signal that was not used during his absence. It was never fully explained why Jim actually returned to his post after retirement, but there was a hint of growing corruption following his departure. He is again the target of the Joker, in particular his Joker-Venom, but he arrived in time to the hospital to recover. After the events of Batman R.I.P., Gordon seems to know that Batman is gone and he is not trying to hide this fact at all.
