It is the manner (Right Worship= full) of such as seek profit by Minerals, first to set men on work to digg and gather the Oare: Then by fire to trie out the Metall, and to cast it into certain rude lumps, which they call Sowze: And lastly to commit them to Artifi= cers, that can thereof make things serviceable and meet for use. Somewhat after which sort, I my self, being very desirous to attain to some knowledge and understanding of the Antiquities of this Realm, which (as Metall contained within the bowels of the earth) lie hidden in old books horded up in cor= ners, did not only my self digg and rake together whatsoever I could of that kind, but procured di= vers of my friends also to set to their hands and doe the like. And when the matter was by our dili= gent travail grown (as me thought) to a convenient Masse, with such fire of discretion as I had, I se= vered the metall and drosse in sunder, and cast it into certain rude, and unformed Sowze, not un= meet for a work man.

Holders of Ministerial Office in the Conservative Governments 1979-1997 Parliamentary Information List Standard Note: SN/PC/04657 Last updated: 11 March 2008 Author: Department of Information Services All efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of this data. Nevertheless the complexity of Ministerial appointments, changes in the machinery of government and the very large number of Ministerial changes between 1979 and 1997 mean that there may be some omissions from this list. Where an individual was a Minister at the time of the May 1997 general election the end of his/her term of office has been given as 2 May. Finally, where possible the exact dates of service have been given although when this information was unavailable only the month is given. The Parliamentary Information List series covers various topics relating to Parliament; they include Bills, Committees, Constitution, Debates, Divisions, The House of Commons, Parliament and procedure. Also available: Research papers – impartial briefings on major bills and other topics of public and parliamentary concern, available as printed documents and on the Intranet and Internet. Standard notes – a selection of less formal briefings, often produced in response to frequently asked questions, are accessible via the Internet. Guides to Parliament – The House of Commons Information Office answers enquiries on the work, history and membership of the House of Commons. It also produces a range of publications about the House which are available for free in hard copy on request Education web site – a web site for children and schools with information and activities about Parliament. Any comments or corrections to the lists would be gratefully received and should be sent to: Parliamentary Information Lists Editor, Parliament & Constitution Centre, House of Commons, London SW1A OAA.

SEARCH ‘KLUGER ’ Photo: Cameron Grimes Representative opportunities arise This weekend we celebrate community football with the annual WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships. A host of players will represent their respective leagues in 15 matches across Victoria on Saturday, with the feature game the battle for the No.1 spot in the league rankings between Geelong FNL and Mornington Peninsula Nepean FNL at the MCG. Looking through the long list of players representing each region, there are many recognisable names to TAC Cup and Peter Jackson VFL fans, with players starting or finishing their careers at local level. While the TAC Cup competition continues to provide over 50 per cent of new talent to the AFL level, we should never forget that each year 80 per cent of players exiting our program return to local leagues across the state (46 per cent) or move on to the VFL (34 per cent). Pleasingly, 37 per cent of players return to their original club, and we hope they have been able to develop their skills not only on the field but off the field and take their learnings back to their local competitions.
