Commission Implementing Decision 15.2.2021 EN Offi cial Jour nal of the European Union L 51/187 COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING DECISION (EU) 2021/159 of 21 January 2021 adopting the fourteenth update of the list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region (notified under document C(2021) 19) THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora (1), and in particular the third subparagraph of Article 4(2) thereof, Whereas: (1) The Mediterranean biogeographical region referred to in Article 1(c)(iii) of Directive 92/43/EEC comprises the Union territories of Greece, Cyprus, in accordance with Article 1 of Protocol No 10 of the 2003 Act of Accession, and Malta, parts of the Union territories of Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Croatia, and, in accordance with Article 355(3) of the Treaty, the territory of Gibraltar, for which the United Kingdom is responsible for external relations, as specified in the biogeographical map approved on 20 April 2005 by the committee set up by Article 20 of that Directive (the ‘Habitats Committee’). (2) The initial list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region, within the meaning of Directive 92/43/EEC, was adopted by Commission Decision 2006/613/EC (2). That list was last updated by Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/96 (3). (3) The sites included in the lists of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region form part of the Natura 2000 network which is an essential element of the protection of biodiversity in the Union. In order to make further progress in the actual establishment of the Natura 2000 network and in the context of a dynamic adaptation of that network, the lists of sites of Community importance are reviewed regularly. (4) Between 21 May 2019 and 22 January 2020 Member States have proposed additional sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region. Member States have also submitted changes in the site- related information contained in the list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region. (5) On the basis of the draft list drawn up by the Commission in agreement with each of the Member States concerned, which also identifies sites hosting priority natural habitat types or priority species, an updated list of sites selected as sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region should be adopted. Article 4(4) and Article 6 of Directive 92/43/EEC apply to the newly inluded sites. (6) Knowledge of the existence and distribution of the natural habitat types and species is constantly evolving as a result of the surveillance undertaken in accordance with Article 11 of Directive 92/43/EEC. Therefore, the evaluation and selection of sites at Union level was carried out using the best available information at the time. (7) Certain Member States have not proposed sufficient sites to meet the requirements of Directive 92/43/EEC for certain habitat types and species. Furthermore, knowledge of the existence and distribution of some habitat types listed in Annex I and some of the species listed in Annex II to Directive 92/43/EEC remains incomplete. For those habitat types and species it can therefore not be concluded that the Natura 2000 network is complete. (1) OJ L 206, 22.7.1992, p. 7. (2) Commission Decision 2006/613/EC of 19 July 2006 adopting, pursuant to Council Directive 92/43/EEC, the list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region (OJ L 259, 21.9.2006, p. 1). (3) Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/96 of 28 November 2019 adopting the thirteenth update of the list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region (OJ L 28, 31.1.2020, p. 1). L 51/188 EN Offi cial Jour nal of the European Union 15.2.2021 (8) In the interests of clarity and transparency, Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/96 should be repealed. (9) The measures provided for in this Decision are in accordance with the opinion of the Habitats Committee, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 The fourteenth update of the list of sites of Community importance for the Mediterranean biogeographical region as set out in the Annex is adopted. Article 2 Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/96 is repealed. Article 3 This Decision is addressed to the Member States. Done at Brussels, 21 January 2021. MORTUARY PRACTICES IN LC CYPRUS A Comparative Study Between Tombs at Hala Sultan Tekke and Other LC Bronze Age Sites in Cyprus Marcus Svensson Supervisor: Lovisa Brännstedt Master’s Thesis in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History Spring 2020 Department of Archaeology and Ancient History Lund University Abstract This thesis investigates differences and similarities in the funerary material of Late Bronze Age Cyprus in order to answer questions about a possible uniqueness of the pit/well tombs at the Late Bronze Age harbour city of Hala Sultan Tekke. The thesis also tries to explain why these features stand out as singular, compared to the more common chamber tomb, and the reason for their existence. The thesis concludes that although no direct match to the pit/well tombs can be found in Cyprus, there are features that might have had enough similarities to be categorised as such, but since the documentation methods of the time were too poor one cannot say for certain. The thesis also gives an explanation of why not more of these features appear in the funerary material in Cyprus, and the answer is simply that the pit/well tombs were not considered to be tombs but wells. Furthermore, direct parallels to the pit/well tombs can be found on mainland Greece, first and foremost at the south room of the North Megaron of the Cyclopean Terrace Building at Mycenae but also at the Athenian Agora. Key Words Hala Sultan Tekke, Late Cypriote Bronze Age, pit/well tombs, chamber tombs, shaft graves, Mycenae. Acknowledgements This thesis is entirely dedicated to the team of the New Swedish Cyprus Expedition, especially Jacek Tracz who helped me restore the assembled literature in a time of need, and to Anton Lazarides for proofreading.

Hrvatski jadranski otoci, otočići i hridi Sika od Mondefusta, Palagruţa Mjerenja obale istoĉnog Jadrana imaju povijest; svi autori navode prvi cjelovitiji popis otoka kontraadmirala austougarske mornarice Sobieczkog (Pula, 1911.). • From Pottery to Politics? Analysis of the Neopalatial Ceramic Assemblage from Cistern 2 at Myrtos-Pyrgos, Crete
From Pottery to Politics? Analysis of the Neopalatial Ceramic Assemblage from Cistern 2 at Myrtos-Pyrgos, Crete A dissertation submitted to the Division of Research and Advanced Studies of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D.) in the Department of Classics of the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences 2015 by Emilia Oddo B.A. Università degli Studi di Palermo, 2004 M.A. Katholieke Universiteit von Leuven, 2007 M.A. University of Cincinnati, 2010 Committee Chair: Eleni Hatzaki Jack L. Davis Alan P. Sullivan III Gerald Cadogan ABSTRACT The focus of this dissertation is the analysis of a deposit of Neopalatial (1750- 1490 BC) pottery uncovered within a large cistern (Cistern 2) at the site of Myrtos- Pyrgos, Crete. Excavated by Gerald Cadogan under the aegis of the British School at Athens in the early 1970s on the top of a hill (Pyrgos) near the modern town of Myrtos, Myrtos-Pyrgos is one of the most important and long-lived Bronze Age sites on the southeastern coast of Crete. The study of the Neopalatial pottery from Cistern 2 contributes to two inter- related research fields: pottery studies of Minoan (i.e., Bronze Age) Crete and theories of political reconstructions based on pottery analysis. The presentation of the Neopalatial pottery from Cistern 2 contributes to the knowledge of ceramics and ceramic production in Crete: this dissertation presents in detail the Neopalatial pottery assemblage from Myrtos-Pyrgos, providing stylistic analysis and contextualization within the broader ceramic production of Neopalatial Crete; thus, it also improves the current knowledge of southeastern Crete, an area whose ceramics remain poorly known.
