Ontario Kiwanians Concur with Attorney General Spitzer on Need for Business Ethics and Integrity ONTARIO DIVISION – Kiwanians and guests lauded new York Attorney-General Eliot Spitzer for his remarks about ethics in busi- ness and government, and what his office is doing to make sure the rules are followed. Limited Window on Tax Benefit to Donors There is a limited window of opportunity of mutual benefit to both you and to the NYS District Kiwanis Foundation. There is a temporary suspension of limitations on charitable contributions between now and year-end. This presents significant opportu- nities for you as a donor, and for the BPO – but only between now and December 31. Late last month, President Bush signed the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 (KETRA), also know as H.R. 3768. Under this Act, and during this limited window of opportunity, cash donations to charities are exempt from the 50 percent income limitation and the phase-out of itemized deductions if the donations are made before year-end. This provision creates a strong incentive to give larger gifts, especially from retirement funds such as IRAs, 401(k) and other retirement plans. Please consult your tax advisor for specific information. All gifts to charity are eligible for this incentive, not just contributions to disaster relief organizations. Imm. Past President Elizabeth Reuter The Kiwanis Club of THREE VILLAGE, Suffolk East Division – recently completed their Fourth annual School Supplies Drive and raised hundreds of items. The supplies were delivered to a local soup kitchen, which serves people within their community, who are facing trying times. The cost to the Three Village Kiwanis Club for this fundraiser is exactly nothing. They simply send a press release about this event to the local newspapers and radio stations to advertise the event as a public service. They made arrangements with several local busi- nesses who allowed the club to set up boxes where people in the community can drop the supplies off. The supplies were picked up and deliver to the soup kitchen making lots of chil- dren (and parents too) very happy. If your club is interested in a school sup- plies drive and would like more information please contact Elizabeth Reuter at (631) 473- 3612 for more details. Foundation President Lindy Marrazzo

I’m looking forward to starting a new year under the leadership of Gov David Rothman. Dave had been member of the District Foundation for years, and we are looking for- ward to working with him. Dave, by the way, will continue to chair the Campership Committee. I’m glad to say, that I was the first to return a full canister of coins and bills to Ed Sexton, our chairman of the committee. If you have raised money, send it to Ed or the District NY. Office. We had a great year at the camp, but expenses are going up.
