Juni 2014 CLASSEMENT DESBANQUES AU 31 DÉCEMBRE 2 2013013 est une année de transition inédite pour le secteur bancaireluxembourgeois. 2014Deux révolutions sont en marche: la fin progressive du secret bancaire, qui a été le pilier de la banque privée pendant des décennies, et la création de l’union bancaire européenne, qui doit assurer la sécurité du système bancaire de la zone euro. Ces deux changements fondamentaux sont analysés dans ce «Classement des banques». La première révolution n’est pas simplement en train de bouleverser le métier de banquier privé, elle trans- forme radicalement notre rapport aux données financières des particuliers. Celles-ci passent peu à peu de la sphère privée à une sphère quasi-publique. La deuxième révolu- tion retire au Luxembourg une partie de sa souveraine- té économique en mettant la moitié de ses banques sous supervision directe de la Banque centrale européenne. Une mesure présentée comme une avancée car elle participe à rendre le système bancaire plus sûr et donc à ramener la confiance dans nos banques. An international financial crisis started in August 2007, greatly intensifying in 2008. 2. In early 2008, European central banks apparently reached a quiet consensus that the Icelandic banking sector was too big, that it threatened financial stability with its aggressive deposit collection and that it should not be rescued. An additional reason the Bank of England rejected a currency swap deal with the CBI was that it did not want a financial centre in Iceland. 3. While the US had protected and assisted Iceland in the Cold War, now she was no longer considered strategically important.
