Superhero Poster Superhero Event Poster Stuff The following can be printed out and glued on posterboard, foamboard or even plain old cardboard. Place poster with event to increase its visual appeal as well as add a little background about the event. Please Note: the following text is mostly copied from Wiki and images were taken from Google images. There is nothing really original here. Superhero Photo Shoots Batarang Throwing A batarang is a roughly bat-shaped throwing weapon used by superhero Batman. They have since become a staple of Batman's arsenal, used for non-lethal ranged attack used to neutralize villains and hit other targets. It is often used to knock guns out of an assailant's hand. Baterangs in different forms are also used by Robin, Batgirl, NightWing, Owlman and even Catwoman. NightWing uses Wing-Dings, while Robin uses Throwing Bird - colloquially referred to as a "Birdarang". Both of these are roughly bird-shaped. Catwoman uses a Batman inspired catarangs and Owlman has his own arsenal of "razorangs". Superhero Rope Climb Unless you have the special ability to fly, you may at some point need to use a rope climb to access buildings via the roof or window or scale walls, mountains or other obstacles. Rope Climbs are frequently used by both Batman and Robin. Superhero Rope Climb Unless you have the special ability to fly, you may at some point need to use a rope climb to access buildings via the roof or window or scale walls, mountains or other obstacles. Rope Climbs are frequently used by both Batman and Robin. Unfreeze Captain America Captain Steve Rogers was given Super-Soldier Serum and "Vita- Ray" treatment which lead to the transformation of his strength, endurance, agility, speed, reflexes, durability, and healing to the zenith of natural human potential. He has spent decades frozen in a block of ice in a state of suspended animation in the North Atlantic Ocean since World War II. Work with what you have to thaw him from ice. Thaw The Superhero Mr. Freeze crossed paths without some of our fellow superheroes and they are in need of a quick thaw. Melt the ice around them as fast as you can without jarring their frozen bodies too much. We don’t want to break off any limbs while still frozen. Superhero Team Event There are many examples of successful superhero teams where superheroes have been able to pool their talent and create and effective and powerful fighting force. No matter what special powers or talent you may have, working with an effective team of superheroes with similar goals will likely make you more able to take on more complex challenges and more powerful foes. You are also more likely to survive a confrontation with a capable opponent with someone covering your back. Working as an effect team often requires a good deal of practice and the willingness to put individualism aside. Spider-Man Web Shooters Spider-Man uses mechanical web-shooters. This mechanism ejects an advanced adhesive, releasing web-fluid in a variety of configurations, including a single rope-like strand to swing from, a net to bind enemies, and a simple glob to foul machinery or blind an opponent. He can also weave the web material into simple forms like a shield, a spherical protection or hemispherical barrier, a club, or even a hang-glider wing. It takes a lot of practice to shoot webs accurately and to use them effectively. Captain America’s Shield Captain America's shield is the primary defensive and offensive piece of equipment used by superhero Captain America; he is seldom seen without it. Over the years, Captain America has had the use of several different shields of varying composition and design. His circular shield is a concavo-convex metal disc approximately 2.5 feet (0.76 m) in diameter. Being made from a adamantium- vibranium alloy, it is virtually indestructible. The vibranium in the shield grants it unusual properties, allowing it to absorb virtually all of the kinetic impact from any blows that the shield receives without injuring Captain America. The vibranium is also a factor in the way Captain America throws his shield: he often uses it to ricochet and strike multiple opponents or stationary objects with little loss of velocity in its forward movement after each impact. Hulk Smash After exposure to gamma radiation, physicist Dr. Bruce Banner gained the ability to transform into the Hulk, a large green humanoid that possesses near limitless superhuman strength and great invulnerability, attributes that grow more potent the angrier he becomes. "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets." The Hulk possesses many special powers, but is most known for his rage and “HULK SMASH!” attack. To perform a Hulk Smash, the Hulk needs to focus and enhance his rage and SMASH! Superhero Archery Green Arrow Archery Hawkeye Archery Arrows allow for silent ranged attacks against a variety of targets. Trick Arrows allow for great versatility. Some Trick Arrows include: Acetylene Arrow EMP arrow Net Arrow Acid Arrow Explosive Arrow Nth Metal Arrow Antler Arrow Fake Uranium Arrow Paint Brush Arrow Aqua Lung Arrow Fan Arrow Parachute Arrow Atomic Warhead Arrow Fire extinguisher Arrow Peppermint Stick Arrow Avalanche Arrow Firecracker Arrow Quantum Baby Rattle Arrow Flash Arrow Rain Arrow Bait Arrow Fountain Pen Arrow Reflector Arrow Balloon Arrow Glue Arrow Rope Arrow Bloodhound Arrow Grappling Hook Arrow Safe-Cracking Arrow Bola Arrow Greek Fire Arrow Smokescreen Arrow Boomerang Arrow Handcuffs Arrow Sonic Arrow Boxing Glove Arrow Harpoon Arrow Stunner Arrow Bubblegum Arrow Ice-Cutting Arrow Sun Arrow Buzzsaw Arrow Ink Arrow Tear Gas Arrow Chimney sweep Arrow Kryptonite Arrow Trap Arrow Cryonic (Freezing) Arrow Laritat Arrow TriClamp Arrow Diamond Tipped Arrow Magnesium Flare Arrow Tumbleweed Arrow Donut Arrow Mini-Arrow Umbrella Arrow Drill Arrow Mummy Arrow Thor’s Hammer Mjölnir Thor’s Hammer is used to control his weather abilities; flight; energy projection and absorption; block bullets; dimensional travel; matter manipulation and the most powerful of his offensives, the God Blast (which taps into Thor's life force), the Thermo-blast, and the Anti-Force (which counteracts another force). Using Mjolnir by throwing in the desired direction and then holding on to the handle's leather loop, Thor can fly at supersonic speeds in Earth's atmosphere. As the Norse god of thunder, Thor can summon the elements of the storm (lightning; rain; wind; snow) and uses Mjolnir as a tool to focus this ability, although the hammer cannot command artificial weather, only natural. He can cause these weather effects over the world and destroy entire buildings; by whirling his hammer he can lift entire buildings with the wind. NightWing Escrima Sticks Eskrima sticks are used by several superheroes to include: Dick Grayson (aka NightWing) Daredevil Robin (pre NightWing) Kick-Ass Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) The Punisher Many Gotham vigilantes Grail in Wetworks Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird) NightWing uses a special pair truncheons made from an unbreakable polymer that were wielded as both offensive and defensive weapons. At least one set comes with the mechanism to shoot a grappling hook attached to a swing line. Other sets are able to emit a radial pulse of electricity to knock opponents off their feet. The clubs could also be thrown with such skill by NightWing that they would ricochet off walls and objects to hit multiple targets, then return to his hands. These truncheons also have the capability to be linked together as well as grow in size to make a staff, Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth The Lasso of Truth is a weapon wielded by superheroine Wonder Woman, Princess Diana of Themyscira. Originally named The Magic Lasso of Aphrodite, it was forged by the god Hephaestus from the Golden Girdle of Gaea that was once worn by Antiope, sister of Hippolyta. The lasso possesses incredible strength and is virtually unbreakable. It is so strong that not even Hercules can break it. Empowered by the Fires of Hestia, the Lasso forces anyone held by it to tell the absolute truth. It is also infinitely long, and can lengthen depending on its user's desire. The fires are said to even be able to cure insanity, as they did in the case of Ares, God of War, when he attempted to incite World War III. Superhero Firearms Black Widow Firearms In the hands of an expert assassin, firearms allow these specialists the ability to take on what would seem like overwhelming odds. And with specialty munitions, these specialists can even take on superheroes and villains with special powers. Superheroes and Villains known for using firearms include: The Punisher (Frank Castle) Arsenal (Roy Harper) Black Widow (Natalia Romanova) Crimson Avenger The Vigilante Jonah Hex The Comedian (Edward M Blake) Dick Tracy Captain America (Steve Rogers) Jason Todd (Red Hood) Crimson Avenger (Lee Travis) Domino (Neena Thurman) Deadshot (Floyd Lawton) Cable (Nathan Summers) Union Jack Winter Soldier Nick Fury Taskmaster (Tony Masters) Grifter (Cole Cash) Bishop (Lucas Bishop) Superhero Martial Arts Superhero Martial Arts Batman Martial Arts Kato Martial Arts As a superhero, it doesn’t matter what super powers you have or what special equipment you have at your disposal. When it comes down to it, you may have to fight hand to hand to subdue a villain or to protect yourself from attack. There are many effective styles of martial arts and some superheroes are well trained and experts in multiple styles. Batman for example has been trained in every known martial arts style and can incapacitate a person 463 different ways without drawing blood. As a superhero, you should be trained in at least one style of hand to hand fighting.

  • Myth, Metatext, Continuity and Cataclysm in Dc Comics’ Crisis on Infinite Earths
WORLDS WILL LIVE, WORLDS WILL DIE: MYTH, METATEXT, CONTINUITY AND CATACLYSM IN DC COMICS’ CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Adam C. Murdough A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Angela Nelson, Advisor Marilyn Motz Jeremy Wallach ii ABSTRACT Angela Nelson, Advisor In 1985-86, DC Comics launched an extensive campaign to revamp and revise its most important superhero characters for a new era. In many cases, this involved streamlining, retouching, or completely overhauling the characters’ fictional back-stories, while similarly renovating the shared fictional context in which their adventures take place, “the DC Universe.” To accomplish this act of revisionist history, DC resorted to a text-based performative gesture, Crisis on Infinite Earths. This thesis analyzes the impact of this singular text and the phenomena it inspired on the comic-book industry and the DC Comics fan community. The first chapter explains the nature and importance of the convention of “continuity” (i.e., intertextual diegetic storytelling, unfolding progressively over time) in superhero comics, identifying superhero fans’ attachment to continuity as a source of reading pleasure and cultural expressivity as the key factor informing the creation of the Crisis on Infinite Earths text. The second chapter consists of an eschatological reading of the text itself, in which it is argued that Crisis on Infinite Earths combines self-reflexive metafiction with the ideologically inflected symbolic language of apocalypse myth to provide DC Comics fans with a textual "rite of transition," to win their acceptance for DC’s mid-1980s project of self- rehistoricization and renewal.

James Bondright? When it first premiered inBatman was the most faithful adaptation of a bona fide comic book superhero ever seen on the screen. It was a nearly perfect blend of the Saturday matinee movie serials where most comic book characters had their first Hollywood break and the comics of its time. But the TV series, particularly during its genesis, was both a product of its own time, and that of an earlier era. Both Flash Gordon and Dick Tracy had made the leap to the big screen before Superman had even hit newsstands, and both saw their serial adventures get two sequels. While Flash Gordonparticularly the first one, was a faithful within the limitations of its budget translation of the Alex Raymond comic strips, Dick Tracy was less so. Years before Richard Donner and Christopher Reevethis one made audiences believe a man could fly, and featured a perfectly cast Tom Tyler in the title role, but was still rather beholden to serial storytelling conventions and the aforementioned budgetary limitations. Ad — content continues below. Batman and Robin are portrayed much as they are in the comics, despite some unfortunately cheap costumes, and less than physically convincing actors in the title roles.

  • Portrayals of Stuttering in Film, Television, and Comic Books
The Visualization of the Twisted Tongue: Portrayals of Stuttering in Film, Television, and Comic Books JEFFREY K. JOHNSON HERE IS A WELL-ESTABLISHED TRADITION WITHIN THE ENTERTAINMENT and publishing industries of depicting mentally and physically challenged characters. While many of the early renderings were sideshowesque amusements or one-dimensional melodramas, numerous contemporary works have utilized characters with disabilities in well- rounded and nonstereotypical ways. Although it would appear that many in society have begun to demand more realistic portrayals of characters with physical and mental challenges, one impediment that is still often typified by coarse caricatures is that of stuttering. The speech impediment labeled stuttering is often used as a crude formulaic storytelling device that adheres to basic misconceptions about the condition. Stuttering is frequently used as visual shorthand to communicate humor, nervousness, weakness, or unheroic/villainous characters. Because almost all the monographs written about the por- trayals of disabilities in film and television fail to mention stuttering, the purpose of this article is to examine the basic categorical formulas used in depicting stuttering in the mainstream popular culture areas of film, television, and comic books.' Though the subject may seem minor or unimportant, it does in fact provide an outlet to observe the relationship between a physical condition and the popular conception of the mental and personality traits that accompany it. One widely accepted definition of stuttering is, "the interruption of the flow of speech by hesitations, prolongation of sounds and blockages sufficient to cause anxiety and impair verbal communication" (Carlisle 4). The Journal of Popular Culture, Vol. 41, No.

María José Álvarez Faedo VºBº: Oviedo, 2012 To comic book creators of yesterday, today and tomorrow. The comics medium is a very specialized area of the Arts, home to many rare and talented blooms and flowering imaginations and it breaks my heart to see so many of our best and brightest bowing down to the same market pressures which drive lowest-common-denominator blockbuster movies and television cop shows. Let's see if we can call time on this trend by demanding and creating big, wild comics which stretch our imaginations. Let's make living breathing, sprawling adventures filled with mind-blowing images of things unseen on Earth. Let's make artefacts that are not faux-games or movies but something other, something so rare and strange it might as well be a window into another universe because that's what it is.
