For more than 65 years, SBISD has nurtured a legacy of excellence, innovation and high achievement that distinguishes our system and sets us apart. It’s why families from across the country came here in the ‘60s and ’70s, and it’s why our graduates return to raise their children here. It’s also why our graduates return to teach in the very schools in which they grew up. These young people are well-educated, dedicated, and because of their legacy, have a personal investment in our schools. For example, at Spring Woods High alone, this year there are six legacy families of educators – mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, teaching alongside each other! As many as 30 of the school’s staff are district grads. The Spring Branch Education Foundation is critical to building on the legacy we are privileged to enjoy and responsible for sustaining. SBEF’s active, dedicated volunteer board steers a course of innovation. Whether it’s awarding scholarships to 80 to 90 graduates each year, presenting campus and district-wide grants or creating an endowment that will last in perpetuity, SBEF makes the district stronger. The Foundation is committed to investing in SBISD to propel Duncan Klussmann our students toward our T-2-4 goal. Our students, our educators Superintendent and our families benefit from the Foundation’s continued innovation and investment in Spring Branch ISD and its commitment to SBISD’s enduring legacy of excellence. - SBISD by the Numbers - 44 5 Schools for square 180,000 35,105 Early Learning/ miles residents students Pre-kindergartens 1 25 7 2 Middle School Traditional Charter Elementary Middle SKY Partnership Schools (K-5) Middle District-Charter Programs Schools School (6-8) (6-8) 1 Charter 1 1 Career Middle/ 4 Traditional Alternative/ & Technology High High Schools Virtual High Education School (9-12) School Center (6-12) 4 2014 Annual Report.indd 6 10/7/14 11:37 AM Lisa Schwartz Chair, SBEF Education is in Lisa’s blood. Both of her parents were teachers. Her mother retired from Memorial High School only to return to the district part-time. Lisa’s mother-in-law, Elizabeth Schwartz, taught first grade at SBISD’s Spring Shadows for 30 years. Lisa taught journalism at Spring Woods and Memorial High Schools and never really left the classroom. As co-owner of Balfour Yearbooks, she advises students on yearbook publications. She and her husband, Bill, have volunteered throughout the school system. Joining the SBEF board, she says, made her a better person in every way. Before taking the reins as chair this year, she served on a number of committees and fundraisers, developed the Legacy campaign to honor graduates and held the offices of treasurer and chair-elect.
