March 29, 2013 Page 2 We Welcome Dr. Victoria Barnett, Bonhoeffer Scholar, to St. Stephen! Last year, many of you participated in and enjoyed a class that Richard Parr and I co-taught on the life and teachings of the German theologian and pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was martyred for his resistance to the Nazis. St. Stephen Presbyterian Church is delighted to host Dr. Victoria Barnett, a friend of Dr. Ritsch’s and one of the leading Bonhoeffer scholars, who will be with us April 20-22. Dr. Barnett is Director of the Programs on Ethics, Religion and the Holocaust at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She is also one of the general editors of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works, the English translation series of Bonhoeffer’s complete works being published by Fortress Press. Dr. Barnett will lead workshops Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21 at St. Stephen that will be open to the general public. Saturday, April 20, 10-11:30 am, Dr. Barnett will lecture in St. Stephen’s Parish Hall on "Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Faith in a World Come of Age.” This will be followed by lunch at 11:30 and breakout groups for those who wish to discuss the lessons that churches and individuals today can derive from Bonhoeffer’s theology and experience. Churches are invited to send representatives and pastors to discuss, under Dr. Barnett’s supervision, how Bonhoeffer’s teachings help their congregations face their challenges today. Lunch is $7.00. To reserve lunch, please contact Judi Greathouse at [email protected] or 817-927-8411. Dr. Barnett is scheduled to be the guest lecturer in the Northminster Sunday School class on Sunday, April 21. On Sunday at 2:00 pm, Dr. Barnett will lecture in the Parish Hall again on “Lessons to Learn from Bonhoeffer and the Holocaust on Interfaith Relations.” This lecture is open to the public and people from all faiths are encouraged to attend. Monday, April 22, 12:00-1:30 Dr. Barnett will meet with professors and students from Brite Divinity School, and pastors and church professionals. Reservations for lunch are required; please contact Judi Greathouse at [email protected] or 817-927-8411. Grace and peace, Rev. Dr. Fritz Ritsch, pastor Notice of Congregational Meeting A Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the Sanctuary following the 11:00 a.m. worship service for the purpose of approving the Terms of Call for Rev.
