Photo by Geoff Law, February 2020 Preliminary Edition, September 2020 Preamble AdaniWatch is a non-profit project established by the Bob Brown Foundation to shine a light on the Adani Group’s misdeeds across the planet. In Australia, Adani is best known as the company behind the proposed Carmichael coal mine in Queensland. However, the Adani Group is a conglomeration of companies engaged in a vast array of businesses, including coal-fired power stations, ports, palm oil, airports, defence industries, solar power, real estate and gas. The group’s founder and chairman, Gautam Adani, has been described as India’s second-richest man and is a close associate of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Adani Group is active in several countries but particularly in India, where accusations of corruption and environmental destruction have dogged its rise to power. In central India, Adani intends to strip mine ancestral lands belonging to the indigenous Gond people. Large tracts of biodiverse forest, including elephant habitat, are in the firing line. Around the coastline of India, Adani’s plans to massively expand its ports are generating outcry from fishing villages and conservationists. In the country’s east, Adani is building a thermal power station designed to burn coal from Queensland and sell expensive power to neighbouring Bangladesh. Investigations, court actions and allegations of impropriety have accompanied Adani’s progress in many of these business schemes. -

EPBC 2015/7467 Attachment B RECOMMENDATION REPORT Abbot Point Growth Gateway Project, Abbot Point, Queensland (EPBC 2015/7467) 1. Recommendation That the proposed action, to undertake capital dredging, onshore placement and reuse of dredge material at Abbot Point, approximately 25km north of Bowen, North Queensland, be approved subject to the conditions specified below. Dredging 1. The approval holder may only undertake the dredging using a Cutter Suction Dredge. 2. The approval holder must ensure that: a) dredging only occurs in the berth pockets and apron areas identified as ‘Dredging footprint’ in Appendix A; b) that no more than 1.1 million cubic metres of dredge material is removed from those areas; and c) the dredge material must be placed in the dredge material containment area. Dredge material containment area 3. The dredge material containment area (DMCA) must be located in the area identified in Appendix B and a liner to minimise potential lateral seepage must be installed in the sides of the DMCA. 4. Construction and operation of the DMCA must not occur within the buffer zone as identified in Appendix B. The buffer zone must be a minimum of 50 metres from the wetland fringe of the Caley Valley Wetlands, as identified in Appendix B. 5. The approval holder must undertake pre-clearance surveys prior to commencement of the action. 6. Construction of the DMCA must not be undertaken between the months of December and March inclusive. Pipelines 7. The approval holder must ensure that construction and operation of the dredge material delivery pipeline and the return water pipeline only occurs together within a corridor that is no more than 12 metres wide. -
