BY SANTA ANITA PRESS OFFICE______ARCADIA, CA—Team O’Neill is hopeful another Santa Anita-based 3-year-old will give them a Kentucky Derby trifecta with Hot Rod Charlie after victories with I’ll Have Another in 2012 and Nyquist in 2016. Saturday, Hot Rod Charlie won the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds for trainer Leandro Mora, who has trained in substitution for trainer Doug O’Neill while he serves a suspension for a lidocaine violation last fall. “The plan [for Hot Rod Charlie] was to go to [the] Louisiana [Derby] and try to get the points and then go straight to the Kentucky Derby,” Mora said from Meydan Race Course in Dubai, U.A.E.
