PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE USA - Guards redshirt senior Jordan Shepherd and sophomore Jahmir Young were both voted preseason All- Conference USA by the league’s 14 head coaches. Shepherd and Young were both third-team All-Conference USA selections last season.

LATER START - Charlotte’s game against East Carolina (Nov. 27) marked the latest the 49ers have started their season in 26 years, since opening the 1994-95 season at home against Coastal Carolina, Dec. 1, 1994.

SEASON OPENER - Charlotte has a 37-19 all-time record in their season openers. Since 2000, the 49ers are 15-6 in their season opener. With the 49ers beginning the season at home against East Carolina (Nov. 27), this marked the 37th season in the program’s history that Charlotte began the season at home.

RESURGENT 2019-20 SEASON - Charlotte finished the season with a 16-13 overall record and a 10-8 Conference USA record. Charlotte’s 16 wins were the most by the Niners since winning 17 games in the 2013-14 season. Charlotte’s ten Conference USA wins were the most league wins by the Nin- ers since going 11-5 in the Atlantic 10 in 2005-06. The 49ers, who finished the regular-season in fourth place in Conference USA, were picked 12th in the preseason coaches’ poll.

2020 RECRUITING CLASS - The 49ers signed two talented prep guards in the November early signing period. Charlotte signed 6-foot-4 guard Daylen Berry (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek H.S.) and 6-foot-4 guard Isaiah Folkes (Gainesville, Va./Putnam Science Academy).

Prior to becoming an assistant coach at Washington State, he spent three seasons as the program’s direc- tor of basketball operations from 2003-06. Prior to those three years, he spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Indiana while in graduate school During his two seasons at Indiana, the Hoosiers reached the NCAA Tournament Championship game in 2002. Sanchez began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, SUNY Oneonta, for the 1998-99 season. Then, he was the associate head coach at Delhi College (N.Y.) for two years (1999-01). In the 2000-01 season, Delhi won 31 games, captured the Region III championship and finished fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship Tournament.

INTERNATIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE Not only has he enjoyed success as a college basketball coach but in the summer of 2013, Sanchez was an assistant coach for the Dominican Republic National Team, which finished fourth at the FIBA Americas Championship to qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championships for the first time since 1978.

PLAYING CAREER Sanchez starred on the basketball team at SUNY Oneonta for four years. He earned State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship Most Valuable Player honors and was a two-time All-Conference selection during his career. As a senior, he scored 621 points while leading the Red Dragons to the ECAC Upstate New York title. In his career, Sanchez scored 1,264 points and grabbed 518 rebounds. In 2007, Sanchez was inducted into the SUNY Oneonta Athletic Hall of Fame.

EDUCATION In 1997, Sanchez graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a bachelor’s degree in education. Sanchez earned a master’s degree in athletic administration/sports manage- ment from the University of Indiana in 2002. In 2019, he was recognized by SUNY Oneonta with the Alumni of Distinction Award.

At NBA Global Academy: • With the NBA Global Academy, an elite basketball training center at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra, Australia, he played a major role in helping his team win back-to-back Academy Games titles in 2018 in Canberra, Australia and 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Academy Games featured prospects from the NBA Academies in Australia, China, India, Mexico, Senegal, along with select teams of other top international prospects. • In December of 2018 and 2019, he played for the NBA Academies select team in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. • In February of 2019, he participated in the prestigious Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in Charlotte during the NBA All- Star game weekend. • In April 2019, he participated in the NCAA’s Next Generation Sunday event at the Final Four, where he played in exhibition games against his peers from around the world while experiencing aspects of the Final Four from a player’s perspective. He was part of the NBA Academy team that scrimmaged against the ’ junior national team during the Final Four weekend as well. • January 2020, Khalifa was part of the NBA Academy Select team that won the prestigious Torneo Junior Ciutat de L’Hospitalet in Barcelona. They defeated FC Barcelona for the championship.
