Congratulations to all the Premiership-winning sides and all the individual trophy winners. The competitions were all hard fought and the semi-finalists were not decided until the last round in many grades. As every year the stand out performers can look forward to filling places in higher grades, while all us old fellows can hopefully fill spots in the lower grades. Year after year, our District can only survive with the dedication of the Senior Management Committee. Thank you to all the Club Representatives for their time and efforts, with special thanks to Peter Lea, as Senior Vice-President and Grading Committee Chairman, Allan Carver, Association Treasurer, for his efforts at keeping our District in the black and Hilary Griffith for the endless hours he puts into our District representing us all over town. Unfortunately, some clubs are still having trouble finding a representative, which leaves those clubs out of the decisions affecting them and their players. In any sport it is essential to have the support and contributions of sponsors. This season we continued to have the support of the Richmond Club, and it was greatly appreciated, along with all the other sponsors who supported individual Association representative teams. We trust that the conduct of all our representative players has been a true reflection of the esteem in which we hold our sponsors and the advertising has been beneficial to them. We look forward to continuing these arrangements in the years ahead. Our Representatives sides all performed well, with the Goulder Shield side performing the best, by taking out the final in a nail-biting finish. Congratulations girls and we hope you will all stay together next season to defend the title. Thank you to all the coaches, managers, parents and all the supporters that donated their time to help our “Up and Coming Champions”. Thanks to Peter Harris, Melissa Packer, Denise Carver, John Hopper and all the Junior Management Committee for their efforts in organising the Junior Competition this season. A District is nothing without its juniors. In closing, I reiterate how enjoyable the past year has been, serving as President of The Hawkesbury District Cricket Association. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be closely involved in the District and I look forward to being a part of the Association in the coming years, as I believe the Hawkesbury is, and will continue to be, a District on the rise. Yours in cricket Peter Seagrott President 4 Association Secretary’s Report It is with pleasure that I present the 107th Annual Report of the Hawkesbury Cricket Association Incorporated. The previous Annual Meeting was held on 12 July 2004 and attendance of 31 persons was as follows: Mr P. Seagrott (President), Mr P. Lea (Senior Vice-President), Mr H.J.F. Griffith (Secretary), Mr Allan Carver (Treasurer), Mr P. Harris (Junior Chairperson), Messrs K. Birdsey, C. Eilbeck, I. Johnston and R. Matheson (Life Members), Messrs D. Apps, M. Byrne, R. Bremner, Mark Van der Reyden, R. Thompson (Bligh Park), Messrs S. Hile, P. Noble (Freemans Reach), Ms Tammy Barber and Messrs Trevor Barber, Graham Drury, Steve Richards (Glossodia), Ms C. Langham, Ms R. Bennett and Mr G. Hitchcock (Maroota), Messrs D. Baker, J. Boersma (North Richmond), Mr H. Stephens (Pitt Town Sports), Messrs W. Packer, L. Johnson (Richmond), Ms S. Garay and Mr F. Garay (Windsor Leagues) and Ms M. Packer (Assistant Secretary) An apology was tendered by Mr W. Bartley (Pitt Town Sports) Association By-Laws A number of amendments to the By-Laws and Playing Rules were passed. These included changes to again award trophies for individuals in the Under 11 competition, to provide for stricter guidelines for player-umpire attire, to allow replacements in senior matches for emergency service workers and volunteers called away from matches and to allow the executive a greater timeframe to move semi-final and final matches if required. Delegates Messrs Hilary Griffith (4) and Peter Harris (1) represented Hawkesbury at the four meetings of the NSW Districts Cricket Association during the season. Mr Griffith was again elected to the Executive of the NSW District Cricket Association and served on the Inter-District and Appeals Committees. Club Changes Prior to the season commencing, the HDCA was informed by Riverstone RSL Cricket Club that it had altered its name to Riverstone Cricket Club. The alteration was approved. The Macquarie Towns Cricket Club advised that teams would not be fielded and that the club was being dissolved. The Association received this advice with regret. Restructure of the Association At the time of preparation of this report, an Association sub-committee is active in the development of proposals for the restructure of the HDCA to amalgamate both the Junior and Senior Management Committees into one Management Committee. A consultative process involving a wide group of individuals and organisations will come forward

  • Singing About Football
SINGING ABOUT FOOTBALL writing about music about sport by Andy Paine Mike Oldfield (of 70’s prog epic Tubular Bells fame) once said he didn’t like doing interviews because “talking about music is like singing about football”. Sorry Mike, but this little zine is going to contradict your saying on two fronts – I’m going to talk about music that is sung about football. You know what he means though – there is an ethereal quality to music that can’t just be quantified or categorised by words on a page. You can write down the entire notation of a song, recount the history of the artist and the making of the song, tell of its impact in terms of sales of cultural influence, and it would still never describe properly the feeling of hearing the song. But the thing is, though not many music aficionados would ever say this, sport is the same. An insane amount is written about sport, sure. Much of it is extraordinarily inane ghostwritten autobiography, or even worse, statistics (has there ever been a greater threat to what is actually good about sport than statistics?). This ocean of sports ephemera though is not why people like sport – just an unfortunate byproduct. The really great things about sport are harder to pin down - the skill and movement of the players, the way different individual talents and styles are integrated into a team environment, the way different cultures and ideologies play out on the field or in the stands. People choose the players and teams they identify with not because of the endless bloody statistics, but because there is something about that player or team that inspires or excites you.

  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Friday 9
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION FRIDAY 9th JULY 2021 Lot 345 1 CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 9th JULY 2021 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down.
