Aquatic Vascular Plant Species Distribution Maps
Appendix 11.5.1: Aquatic Vascular Plant Species Distribution Maps These distribution maps are for 116 aquatic vascular macrophyte species (Table 1). Aquatic designation follows habitat descriptions in Haines and Vining (1998), and includes submergent, floating and some emergent species. See Appendix 11.4 for list of species. Also included in Appendix 11.4 is the number of HUC-10 watersheds from which each taxon has been recorded, and the county-level distributions. Data are from nine sources, as compiled in the MABP database (plus a few additional records derived from ancilliary information contained in reports from two fisheries surveys in the Upper St. John basin organized by The Nature Conservancy). With the exception of the University of Maine herbarium records, most locations represent point samples (coordinates were provided in data sources or derived by MABP from site descriptions in data sources). The herbarium data are identified only to township. In the species distribution maps, town-level records are indicated by center-points (centroids). Figure 1 on this page shows as polygons the towns where taxon records are identified only at the town level. Appendix D – Rare Plant Species and Wildlife Habitats Rare Plant Species and Wildlife Habitats The habitat profiles created for the Wildlife Action Plan have been developed for the purpose of describing the full range of habitats that support New Hampshire’s wildlife species. However, these habitats can also serve as useful units for identifying rare plant habitats. This appendix provides lists of rare plant species known to be associated with each WAP habitat type. In accordance with the Native Plant Protection Act (NH RSA 217-A), the New Hampshire Natural Heritage Bureau (NHB) maintains a list of the state’s rarest and most imperiled plant species. This list has been developed in cooperation with researchers, conservation organizations, and knowledgeable amateur botanists. Plant locations have been obtained from sources including herbarium specimens, personal contacts, the scientific literature, and through extensive field research. The list is updated regularly to reflect changes in information. For each habitat, a list of associated rare plant species is presented. These rare plant – habitat associations are based on known occurrences of each species in New Hampshire. It is possible that an individual species will have different habitat associations elsewhere in its range. For more information on dominant and characteristic plant species for each habitat, refer to the individual habitat profiles. An explanation of the annual timeline for the Community Preservation Committee 2. Scoring Criteria 3. Instructions for submitting a full application Timeline The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) will make recommendations for funding both at Annual Town Meeting which occurs in May, as well as Semi-Annual Town Meeting, which typically occurs in October. While applications are accepted throughout the year, the following timeline provides deadlines by which applications must be received and presented to the CPC in order to be included in each Town Meeting. Our fieldwork, herbarium studies and molecular analyses proved the existence of 22 taxa, of which 18 belong to Potamogeton (including 4 interspecific hybrids), 3 to Stuckenia and 1 to monotypic Groenlandia. Morphological re-descriptions of the recognized taxa were prepared, and the information concerning their distribution in Turkey was refined, based on plant material from extensive fieldwork and on specimens stored in herbaria that were previously not examined. Additionally, new identification keys to genera and species, and distribution maps of the species were prepared. Phylogenetic relationships and intraspe- cific variations were assessed by including samples from other regions. The status of the Zannichelliaceae was investigated using nuclear and chloroplast DNA markers. -

Mangels 2020 Lake Quonnipaug Report
Report on a 2020 survey for State-listed plant species at Quonnipaug Lake, Guilford, Connecticut Christopher R. Mangels Botanical - Ecological Consultant New Fairfield, Connecticut Submitted to the Town of Guilford 27 December 2020 Survey background, objectives and methods This report details a brief botanical survey of Quonnipaug Lake (henceforth QL) conducted independently by the author in late August of 2020. The survey was commenced at the request of Kevin Magee, Environmental Planner for Town of Guilford (henceforth TOG), by whom I was contacted to provide outside expertise pertaining to rare species and plant surveys. Need for this survey arose in the context of review by Natural Diversity Database of CT-DEEP (hereafter NDDB) for continued authorization of aquatic herbicide application (NDDB Determination No.: 202000699, dated May 29, 2020). The survey’s primary objective was to investigate the status of two plant species, Capillary pondweed and Water-marigold, both previously known to occur at QL and currently listed as Threatened and Special Concern category species, respectively, by State of Connecticut (CT DEEP, 2015). Assuming one or both species were found, the survey further entailed fully documenting the population(s), including mapping and evaluation of size and viability. Three unaccompanied visits, each lasting 3-5 hours (total field time of 10.5 hours), were made on 26 August, 28 August and 30 August 2020. The aim on the first date was general site reconnaissance, e.g., checking access points and probing near-shore portions of the lake accessible by land. On the two later dates the survey followed a meandering route through the outer littoral zone, a purely visualized area extending roughly 10 meters inward from water’s edge, utilizing a 10-foot single-person kayak with very low draft that allowed access into minimal depths, as necessitated by shallow, mucky conditions at the southern end. -

Preliminary List of Species Native Within the Adirondack Park Listed Alphabetically by Common Name and Sorted by Habit v.1 Updated 10.23.2006 Purpose The purpose of this list is to provide an information resource to those wishing to plant or otherwise propagate plants native to the Adirondack Park. It could be used by an individual or a group developing a landscaping plan and wishing to use species native to the Park and a particular county. They could use the list as a source of native species and request nurserymen to provide plant materials from it. Although most of these species are not now available from commercial nurseries, it may be that if continued requests are made for them, the nursery industry would see fit to propagate the desired plants. Requesting and planting natives would reduce the call for non-native and potentially invasive species. It should be noted that some of these species will most likely never be sold commercially because of rarity or difficulty in propagation. The list is meant to being a living document with species added and deleted as additional information is collected and verified. Although it may be tempting, plants should never be harvested from the wild. In fact some of these plants are legally protected, and no harvesting can occur on State lands.
