The Mississippi River is the second largest river in the United States. It stretches about 2, 320 miles from Minnesota to Louisiana and then dumps into the Gulf of Mexico. In the past, many Indian tribes would settle along the Mississippi River. They could use the water to fish in and travel by canoe in. In the year 2002, Martin Strel a famous long distance swimmer swam this long river. It took him 68 days to complete the swim.
James River The James River is located in Virginia. It stretches from the Blue Ridge through Richmond and dumps into the Atlantic Ocean. This River was very important to the Powhatan Tribe. The river would be a food source for them. Today we use it to swim, canoe, and hike around. The James River can be a fun place to visit during the summer. Name: ______Rio Grande The Rio Grande serves as a boundary between Texas and Mexico. It stretches from Colorado to Texas and then dumps into the Gulf of Mexico. This River is about 1,885 miles long.
