All graduate and undergraduate students who plan co participate in the ceremony must go to the commencement Web site, www.bsu.edu/commencement, and fill out their participation choice by April 27. In addition, doctoral and specialise in education candidates muse call Judy Evans at (765) 285-1291 to lee her know whether or not they will participate. Time: The processional will start at 9:50 a.m. EDT on the Arts Terrace. The main ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will last about an hour. Individual college ceremonies, with the exception of the College of Applied Sciences and Technology and the Miller College of Business, will begin one half hour after the conclusion of the main ceremony or at approximately 11:30 a.m. and will be over by 1:30 p.m. The College of Applied Sciences and Technology ceremony will scare at 3 p.m. in Worthen Arena. The Miller College of Business ceremony will scare at 2 p.m. in Emens Auditorium. Please read the enclosed college letter for more details. Parking: We suggest chat people park near the site of the college ceremony that they plan to attend, rather than near the main ceremony. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., shuttle bus service will be available co transport people from the suggested parking areas to the main ceremony site at the Arcs Terrace. Shuttle bus boarding sites are noted on the map in chis brochure. Parking suggestions are listed under Individual College Ceremonies. Individual College Ceremonies Starting times: Starting times are approximately one half hour after the conclusion of the main ceremony. If the outdoor main ceremony is canceled, the individual college ceremonies will start at 10 a.m., and lineups at college sites will scare at 9: 15 a.m. (with the exception of the College of Applied Sciences and Technology, which will stare at 3 p.m., with lineup at 2: 15 p.m.; the Miller College of Business, which will scare at 2 p.m., with lineup at 1:30 p.m.; and Teachers College, which will start at 2 p.m. in Irving Gym, with lineup at 1:30 p.m.). College of Sciences and Humanities 11:30 a.m., Worthen Arena (Eon map) Park in the arena parking lots. Teachers College 11:30 a.m., Arcs Terrace (A on map) Park in the Student Center lots, the McKinley or Student Center parking structures, or the lot next to Lucina Hall. Participation: Please fill out the participation form on the commencement Web site, www.bsu.edu/commencement, by April 27 and read the enclosed college letter for instructions on participating in the individual college ceremonies. Additional Commencement Information Academic regalia: The official Ball Scace commencement cap and gown can be purchased through the Ball Scace Bookstore in the Arc and Journalism Building. Caps, gowns, hoods, announcements, rings, and diploma frames are available for students co order and/or pick up. The price does not include tax: baccalaureate and associate degree regalia is $24.98; for master's cap, gown, and tassel, $27.98; and for specialist and doctoral cap, gown, and tassel, $35.98. They are also offering a gown embroidered with the Beneficence symbol. Stop in to view a sample and get pricing. Mail orders must include tax plus a charge of $6.95 for shipping and handling. For single priced items, call the bookstore. Send the title of the degree, hat size, height, weight, and check made payable to the Ball State Bookstore to: Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306. The bookstore will not mail caps and gowns the week of commencement. Personalized announcements and thank-you cards are also available. Main ceremony: The ceremony at the Arts Terrace includes a commencement speaker, the hooding of honorary degrees for honorary doctorates, recognition and hooding of the doctoral and specialist in education candidates, and the conferral of bachelor's, master's, and associate degrees by President Jo Ann M. Gora. After the main ceremony, all graduates will recess and follow their college deans and faculty marshals to their respective ceremony sites, except the College of Applied Sciences and Technology and the Miller College of Business. Teachers College students will line up again near the Arts Terrace site. Main ceremony line up: The undergraduate and master's candidate lineup for the main ceremony will be at 9: 15 a.m. on Campus Drive near West Quad and form lines back toward the west on both sides of the building. Each college will have a sign, and candidates will line up behind their college signs in the college of their major/minor. For further information, see the list of departments in this brochure. If still in doubt, call the Commencement Office at (765) 285- 1689. Doctoral and specialist in education candidate lineup: For the main ceremony, meet and line up at 9 a.m. in the east lobby of Lucina Hall. Assistant Dean Jacquelyn Nelson will be there to assist. Faculty and professional staff lineup: Meet at 9:15 a.m. on Campus Drive at the Administration Building. Faculty marshals will arrange two lines to flank the students as they proceed down Campus Drive. If the main ceremony is canceled, faculty will report directly ro their college sites for lineup at 9: 15 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. For sites and times, see Individual College Ceremonies. Disabled graduates or family: Students who need instructions on procedures to participate in the main commencement ceremony on the Arts Terrace should call Sharon Woodruff in the Commencement Office for arrangements. For instructions for participation in your college ceremony, call the dean's office of your major/minor. Please give as much advance notice as possible. If a family member cannot walk from the main ceremony to the college ceremony site, there will be transportation available on Campus Drive behind Beneficence (see map). Photographs: Professional photographers will have sites set up on campus drive and Beneficence for picture taking before the main ceremony (see enclosed picture card). They will also be at each college ceremony. A proof from which photographs may be ordered will be mailed to the student's home address about two weeks after the ceremony. We encourage picture taking at Beneficence and in front of other campus landmarks before and after the ceremonies. Honors graduates: Academic honors designations are for baccalaureate degree recipients only. Students graduating from the Honors College and those graduating with academic honors, departmental honors, and honors in writing will be recognized during the ceremony. Honors College graduates will wear red and white honors cords. Those graduating with academic honors will wear medallions signifying their honors designations. Students graduating with academic honors must have earned at least 63 credits at Ball State and a total of at least 126 credits including transfer credits. The Ball State grade point average must be 3.6 to 3.79 for cum laude, 3.8 to 3.89 for magna cum laude, and 3.9 to 4.0 for summa cum laude. If final grades change the honors designation, the new designation will be printed on the diploma and transcript. Students who qualify for the cord and/or medallion will receive them at the senior recognition dinner given by the president on April 18. Students who cannot accend the dinner may pick up cords or medallions in the Commencement Office, Lucina Hall B4, or on commencement morning at the lineup site for the main ceremony. Associate degrees with academic distinction: A student who earns an associate degree, maintains at least a 3.6 grade point average, and earns at least 32 graded credits from Ball State will have the designation "Academic Distinction" noted on the transcript and diploma. Senior recognition dinner: A senior recognition dinner will be held April 18 in Worthen Arena. Invitations will be mailed to all eligible students and their parents. Call the President's Office, (765) 285-5555, with questions regarding the dinner. Graduate reception: President Gora will host a reception for graduates at Bracken House.
