Feinstein's at the Nikko Welcomes Music Legend FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Kevin Kopjak | Charles Zukow Associates 415.296.0677 | [email protected] FEINSTEIN’S AT THE NIKKO WELCOMES MUSIC LEGEND, MARTHA WASH, FOR TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY! OCTOBER 23 & 24, 2014 SAN FRANCISCO (September 15, 2014) – Thirty years after proclaiming “It’s Raining Men,” music legend Martha Wash will make her debut at Feinstein’s at the Nikko for two performances only – Thursday, October 23 (8 p.m.) and Friday, October 24 (8 p.m.). Ms. Wash’s music career spans genres from pop to dance to R&B, and is responsible for some of the most celebrated music to ever hit the airwaves. Her more than three decade career has produced two Grammy nominations and #1 hits such as, “It’s Raining Men,” “Sweat (Everybody Dance Now,” and “Carry On.” Tickets for Martha Wash range in price from $35 – $50 and are on-sale now and available by calling 866.663.1063 or visiting www.ticketweb.com. Located within Hotel Nikko (222 Mason Street, San Francisco), Feinstein’s at the Nikko presents a wide range of entertainers from stage and screen all within an intimate 140-seat cabaret setting. There is a $20 food and beverage minimum per person inside the showroom which guests can use towards cocktails as well as a variety of small plates crafted exclusively for Feinstein’s at the Nikko by Executive Chef Philippe Striffeler, through Restaurant Anzu. Cheese and dessert platters will also be available in the showroom. Martha’s voice has dominated the airwaves, and her charisma and spirit has embraced millions of people around the world. She is responsible for some of the top-selling, most recognizable pop hits of the 80s and 90s. “It’s Raining Men,” the cult pop classic, is still heard everywhere… the radio, movies, commercials, TV. “Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” was the highlight of C&C Music Factory’s career, and sold 5 ½ million copies worldwide. Black Box’s Dreamland featured four #1 Billboard Dance singles and three Top 40 hits including “Strike It Up”, a single that continues to receives massive airplay and is still heard at every NFL and NBA game everywhere! All of the above have achieved major success and all have one common denominator – Martha Wash. She is the heart and soul of dance music. “Martha Wash : The Collection” was released in January 1998 on Logic Records/BMG, to honor her timelessness and her renowned presence that has been instrumental in shaping popular music as we hear it today. After 10 years, Martha recently returned to the Billboard Dance Charts with her hit single “I’m Not Coming Down,” which reached the #2 spot topping Cher, Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga. Martha just released her fourth single from her “Something Good” album, a cover of Aerosmith’s iconic song “Dream On.” Listen to the single here: http://bit.ly/1kr7c5E Martha Wash began her musical career at the age of two in her parents’ church in her native San Francisco. She went on to study opera and tour Europe while still in high school. Martha became part of a contemporary gospel group called N.O.W. (News of The World) and the mix of classical and gospel training accounts for her seemingly effortless transition, from ballads to dance music to pop. In addition to her vast career in pop music, Martha has also starred in major theater productions, and has recorded numerous jingles and movie soundtracks (“Kiss Me Guido,” “The First Wives Club,” “The Mighty Ducks,” “Gun Ho”). Now two decades later Martha Wash has released her stunning new LP, titled, “Something Good, a collection of new music from Wash in a different vein than her old favorites. While the new album contains music that is sure to please longtime fans, it is more of an alternative pop-rock journey. Martha also stays busy with her charity work, as spokesperson for “QSAC Inc”, a non-profit organization providing comprehensive services to individuals with Autism and their families, “You Can Play Project”, a not-for-profit dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation and the Huntington Arts Council, a not-for-profit that inspires lives and minds through education, entertainment and intellectual motivation, ensuring each of us a place for expression and creativity. Martha is noted for her many voices. Those voices add up to one big-hearted Diva who truly practices what she preached in her early disco hit, “Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven” — “Give a little, take a little, put a little back, we’re all brothers and sisters, and that’s a fact!” All seating at Feinstein’s at the Nikko is cabaret style and available on a first-come, first-served basis within the section purchased. Guests who purchase the prix-fixe dinner at Restaurant Anzu will receive a complimentary section upgrade (subject to availability) and get to choose their exact seat locations within the upgraded section. Guests of Feinstein’s at the Nikko can enjoy a variety of food and beverage options before performances. Kanpai Lounge, located in Hotel Nikko’s lobby, offers light cuisine, a full bar and specialty cocktails. Restaurant Anzu, Hotel Nikko’s intimate restaurant located on the second floor, serves sustainable California cuisine enhanced with Asian flavors. Restaurant Anzu will also offer Feinstein’s at the Nikko guests a special three-course prix-fixe dinner ($45 per person) prior to all performances. Reservations can be made by calling (415) 394-1100. Best gay songs: 30–21 30 “City Grrrl” by CSS Bad girls and gay boys have always been besties, and this 2011 track from Brazilian combo Cansei de Ser Sexy is a loving ode to that special relationship. Lead singer Lovefoxxx looks back on adolescent fantasies of "being busy with my job and my gay friends, laughing and drinking with my one-night stands" in the "big city." Anyone who's ever felt trapped in a small town (and eventually escaped) will definitely relate. —Ethan LaCroix Download on Amazon www.youtube.com/watch?v=duOA3FgpZqY 29 “Your Loving Arms” by Billie Ray Martin Most gay dance anthems are packed with drama of both the lyrical and vocal variety. But in 1994, German singer Billie Ray Martin invaded clubland with this icy floor filler that's so calm she almost seems detached. Don't let that near-monotone fool you, though—Martin is a formidable vocalist, and when she finally cuts loose ("Burning inside, burning inside, yeah!"), it's a master class in the art of delayed gratification.—Ethan LaCroix Download on Amazon www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVukIhibLYM 28 “Viz” by Le Tigre Before forming her dance-DJ-production project MEN, JD Samson stepped up to the mike as a member of this electro-rock trio. • Martha Wash About
Martha Wash About Martha Wash has a voice that made millions dance. She is a two-time Grammy nominated American R&B, pop, soul, and house singer, record producer, songwriter, activist and music industry executive with a career spanning over thirty years. As one-half of the duo Two Tons O’ Fun – later the Weather Girls – she sang with the legendary Sylvester and recorded the enduring multi-platinum hit “It’s Raining Men.” Wash quickly rose to become the Queen of Clubland, with 13 songs peaking at Number One on the Billboard Dance charts. In the 1990s she spurred legislation that made vocal credits mandatory on CDs and music videos after being denied proper credit (and royalties) for C+C Music Factory’s anthem “Gonna Make You Sweat”, and Black Box’s “Strike It Up” and “Everybody, Everybody.” During this era Wash was the Midas of dance music, with eight songs featuring her vocals reaching Number One on the international pop/dance charts. Wash remains active as a touring and recording artist, and in 2015, she produced First Ladies Of Disco's Top 10 Billboard dance single "Show Some Love", which was released on her own label Purple Rose Records.
