PRAYER OF THE DAY

HYMN #619: “Praise, My Soul, the God of Heaven” (Psalm 103) Praise, my soul, the God of heaven; glad of heart your carols raise; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who, like me, should sing God’s praise? Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the Maker all your days! Praise God for the grace and favor shown our forebears in distress; God is the same forever, slow to chide, and swift to bless. Alleluia! Alleluia! Sing our Maker’s faithfulness! Like loving parent caring, God knows well our feeble frame, gladly all our burdens bearing, still to countless years the same. Alleluia! Alleluia! All within me, praise God’s name! Angels, teach adoration; you behold God face to face. Sun and moon and all creation, dwellers all in time and space. Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace!

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord Jesus, we call upon you. Save us! We are intimidated by our circumstances, distracted from your purposes, drowning in doubts and fears. We are presumptuous about your will, belittling others and magnifying ourselves. We envy the blessings of others, secretly despising their dreams. We have hardened our hearts to the suffering of our brothers and sisters, feeding ourselves in face of the injustice that holds captive. Lord Jesus, who searches our hearts, lift us from sin and help us to walk with you in faith, humility, and brotherly-sisterly love. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

GLORIA PATRI (sung): Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is , and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

HYMN #754: “Help Us Accept Each Other” Help us accept each other as Christ accepted us; teach us as sister, brother, each person to embrace. Be present, Lord, among us and bring us to believe we are ourselves accepted, and meant to love and live. Teach us, O Lord, your lessons, as in our daily life we struggle to be human and search for hope and faith. Teach us to care for people, for all, not just for some, to love them as we find them, or as they may become. Let your acceptance change us, so that we may be moved in living situations to do the truth in love; to practice your acceptance until we know by heart the table of forgiveness, and laughter’s healing art. Lord, for today’s encounters will all who are in need, who hunger for acceptance, for justice and for bread, we need new eyes for seeing, new hands for holding on: renew us with your Spirit; Lord, free us; make us one!
