As You Like It
A TEACHER’S GUIDE TO THE SIGNET CLASSIC EDITION OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S AS YOU LIKE IT By JEANNE M. McGLINN, Ph.D., AND JAMES E. McGLINN, Ed.D. SERIES EDITORS: W. GEIGER ELLIS, ED.D., UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, EMERITUS and ARTHEA J. S. REED, PH.D., UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, RETIRED A Teacher’s Guide to the Signet Classic Edition of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It 2 INTRODUCTION Shakespeare seems to be everywhere these days. Romeo and Juliet and Midsummer Night's Dream, starring contemporary movie stars, have been box office hits. The film Shakespeare in Love, depicting how the playwright's experiences inspired him to write Romeo and Juliet, won multiple Oscars at the 1999 Academy Awards. These popular films have made the plays more accessible to students by exposing them to Elizabethan language and the action that brings the words to life. So teachers can expect a certain amount of positive interest among students when they begin to read a Shakespearean play. As You Like It, although not well known by students, will certainly delight and build on students' positive expectations. As You Like It, like Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream, is one of Shakespeare's "marriage" comedies in which love's complications end in recognition of the true identity of the lovers and celebration in marriage. This is a pattern still followed in today's romantic comedies. This play can lead to discussions of the nature of true love versus romantic love. Other themes, which spin off from the duality between the real and unreal, include appearance versus reality, nature ver- sus fortune, and court life of sophisticated manners contrasted with the natural life. -

Eurovision Song Contest 2019 Tele and Jury Incl Comments
Eurovision Song Contest 2019 Final My Placing Me guessing Final result Tele Jury Malta Michela Chameleon - I seriously think Malta is worth 8 11-15 16 22 - 20p 10 - 75p more this year. The recorded version of ”Chameleon” is a piece of brilliant pop but also honestly… They failed to bring it from recorded to live. The act looked a bit messy, but only 20 points from the tele voting? No that’s not fair. Albania Jonida Maliqi Ktheju tokes - I don´t have much to say here 18 16-20 18 17 - 47p 18 - 43p cause this is a kind of genre you only hear in the Eurovision and the result was expected. Czech Republic Lake Malawi Friend of a friend - This is one of the big WTF 20 21-26 11 24 - 7p 6 - 150p ´s on the night… What with the jury? 6th place really? What did the jury see in this entry? Will be fun to see how the diferent countries really voted in the breakdown later on. Germany S!sters Sister - I moved Germany from the last 6 17 21-26 24 26 - 0p 21 - 32p places up to 17 on the night cause the girls performed it well but the result was expected. I am actually surprised they got 32 points from the juries. But again one of the ”Big 5” failed a good result. Russia Sergey Lazarev Scream - A small surprise since I guessed 7 6-10 3 4 - 244p 9 - 125p Sergey would have been rewarded more in the tele votes than with the political jury voting. -

QUILTER: Folk Song Arrangements • Complete Part-Songs for Women’s Voices 8.557495 The Arnold Book of Old Songs – English Songs Come love be all my joy. [1] Drink to me only Thou alone art my delight. Text: Ben Jonson (1573–1637) Come love be my heart of gold And who but my Lady Greensleeves. Drink to me only with thine eyes, And I will pledge with mine; Oh who is sweet as she is sweet Or leave a kiss within the cup Above all things that mortals prize: And I’ll not ask for wine. I’d lay a kingdom at her feet The thirst that from the soul doth rise Nor seek a richer merchandise. Doth ask a drink divine; But might I of Jove’s nectar sup, Come love be all my joy I would not change for thine. Thou alone art my delight, Come love be my heart of gold, I sent thee late a rosy wreath, And who but my Lady Greensleeves. Not so much honouring thee, As giving it a hope that there Oh who is rare as she is rare It could not withered be. And who is such a charming maid. But thou thereon didst only breathe The lute shall tell her my despair And sent’st it back to me; And fill with song the myrtle shade. Since when it grows, and smells, I swear, Not of itself but thee. Come love be all my joy Thou alone art my delight, [2] Over the mountains Come love be my heart of gold, Text: From Percy’s Reliques, And who but my Lady Greensleeves. -

The Piano Lesson
THE PIANO LESSON Synopsis The Piano Lesson is set in Pittsburgh in 1936. Boy Willie has come to his uncle’s house to retrieve a piano that holds significant historical and sentimental value to the family. A battle ensues over the possession of the piano, which carries the legacy and opportunities of the characters and determines the choices they must make. Characters AVERY: Thirty-eight years old, Avery is a preacher who is trying to build up his congregation. He is honest and ambitious, finding himself opportunities in the city that were unavailable to him in rural areas of the South. While fervently religious, he manages to find the time to court Berniece after her husband’s death. BOY WILLIE: Brother to Berniece, Boy Willie is a thirty year old brash, impulsive, and fast-talking man. He has an infectious grin and a boyishness that is apt for his name. His story provides the central conflict for the play in that he plans to sell the family piano in order to buy land that his family worked on as slaves. He feels it’s important he does this in order to avenge his father, who grew up property-less— but not everyone in the family agrees. LYMON: Boy Willie’s long time friend is a twenty-nine year old who speaks little, but when he does with a disarming straight-forwardness. As he flees the law, he makes a plan to begin anew in the North. Eliciting stories from the families past, Lymon proves a vehicle by which we learn about the family. -

The UAE said on Sunday that four commercial vessels were sabotaged near Fujairah emirate, one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs lying just outside the Strait of Hormuz. It did not describe the nature of the attack or say who was behind it. The UAE had not given the nationalities or other details about the ownership of the four vessels. Riyadh has identi- fied two of them as Saudi and a Norwegian company said it owned another. Details of the fourth ship were not immediately clear. Thome Ship Management said its Norwegian-registered oil products tanker MT Andrew Victory was “struck by an unknown object”. Footage seen by Reuters showed a hole in the hull at the waterline with the metal torn open inwards. -
