Newsletter 10Th March Week 6, Term 1 Wednesday 10th March, 2021 Changes in the Covid-19 Alert levels have definitely made it an interesting start to the year. We appreciated your understanding when events needed to be postponed and changes were made at short notice. Hopefully with the Covid-19 immunisation programme now underway we will see less yo-yoing in and out of alert levels and have a more settled second half of the term. EOTC Week - I want to once again acknowledge the HUGE amount of work that our teachers put into organising a very successful EOTC week for our students. A lot of time and effort was put into planning the wide range of activities on offer and the enthusiastic way that students engaged in activities and the smiles on their faces was testament to the success of the events they had planned. Clyde School is very lucky to have such a dedicated team. Our sincere thanks also to all those who helped out over the course of the week, with activities, transport and supervision. Without your support EOTC week would not have been possible. Puketeraki Marae - Last Thursday our Year 5 students visited Puketeraki Marae in Karitane, where they experienced a pōwhiri and learnt about Marae protocols. A highlight for many was learning how to weave with flax and creating a flax bookmark to take home. Thank you to those who accompanied our students and to Karla Robb, who led the Karanga. Whānau Meetings - It was great to see so many parents attend the recent whānau meetings. I received lots of positive feedback about these meetings, with a number of parents expressing how nice it was to be given an opportunity to talk about their child’s strengths and what makes them special. Athletic Sports - We had a very successful school athletic sports on Monday. Special thanks to Mr Banks who has taken over the organisation of our school wide sporting events this year. Mr Banks has selected a team to represent our school at the Dunstan Zones Athletic Sports next Monday 15th March and those students will be bringing home a notice about this today. I will be entering student’s tomorrow morning, so please let me know ASAP if your child is not able to compete. Walk and Wheels Week - Most of you will be aware that this week is ‘Walk and Wheels’ week, which encourages active transport to and from school. Classes are keeping track of the number of students who walk, bike or scooter to school. Camps - We have several year groups heading off on various camps over the next few weeks. This Thursday our Year 4 students will head to Cromwell for an overnight camp. They will visit the Wanaka Toy Museum, complete the Stewart Town walk in Bannockburn and take a trip on the Earnslaw to Walter Peak Station. In two weeks our Year 6 students will head to Lake Middleton for a three day camp, taking part in a number of exciting activities including biking part of the Alps to Alpine trail and visit Aoraki / Mt Cook to learn about the alpine environment. We wish all our campers the very best and hope they enjoy these new experiences. Otago Central Rail Trail Challenge - Next week a large number of our Year 7 and 8 students will take up the challenge of riding the Otago Central Rail Trail, 150km, from Middlemarch to Clyde over three consecutive days. We have a group of 25 students and 17 adult riders who have accepted this challenge. I will be joining this group and have my fingers crossed for picture postcard days and little wind. Welcome to Chase Chambers, Sophia Hartman, Chase Dixon and Charlotte Copeland who join Mrs Ryder in the Pūkeko room. We hope that you enjoy being part of our Clyde School family. These new enrolments put our school roll at 160. Lost Property - We have a large pile of unnamed items of clothing, drink bottles and containers left behind after EOTC week. These items have been sitting outside Ruru for the past week and need to be claimed by the end of the week. Ngā mihi nui Steph Kitto “E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takimano, takitini” Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.
