AND THE WINNER IS... Jackfruit, the 2019 winner of Rock the island, is composed of four musically interwoven students at Anacortes High School; John Harrison on lead vocals, Liam Poor on drums, Noah Masten on keys, and Emmett Moore on guitar. They are folk focused and take inspiration from Simon & Garfunkel for the vocal harmonies in many of their songs. On the origins of the band, Moore says, “It’s something we always have wanted to do, but when RTI was announced this year we decided to just do it, We wanted to give the audience of Rock the Island something they could really feel and connect to.” On the lyrics side, Poor is the driving force, wrapping songs of heartbreak into his own metaphors. “Sometimes you have a lot of things to say and no one to say it to, and music was just the best way for me to get everything out,” says Poor. After their performance at Rock the Island, they have been hard at work crafting new songs and building stronger connections with each other.
