1 a Series of Questions What Is It About Countless Numbers of Cold A Series of Questions what is it about countless numbers of cold people climbing up high, sheer faces of mountains – like Mount Everest – all the way up to its peak, maybe it’s a wish to spike their heads through clouds locked inside brains of these addicted climbers – a cocaine shot to conquer it with their own power, who knows, all eye know is they have every right to do whatever their hearts drive them to do – now, eye know, many of the reasons some have, given the fact many like taking chances, even if they might never dream of falling to their deaths – which is also their absolute right, but screaming when they knew this might happen, so why did fear shock so much now – is it that most never thought there was this possibility it all could come down to this moment, their desire to succeed met this cold- hearted risk they would never conquer this mountain, but that didn’t stop them from wishing to scale it – they always told themselves they only needed luck, a modicum of skill to deal with this abstract thought, to help them figure out all these geometric angles, coupled with mathematical equations, to go along with no fear of heights up there on that sheer rock, but at what cost, especially if they lost their grip, the rope slipped, the Petzl axe failed them way up in those icy, fluffy clouds 1 & they plunged down quick through the gaping mouth of cavernous blue, sunny, or dark open spaces, gathering velocity – close to a bullet – as they zoomed down, never imagining their pinwheeling bodies could accelerate that fast, reach such breathtaking speed then what does their mind expect when hard ground rises up suddenly, greets them with this mamba’s kiss, a vampire’s wish, a hellish hello – so violent, do they think it will be nice the way their brain explodes – pow – into a yellow mess resembling jello – not even a fantastic LSD trip could embrace this, wrap itself around such a wicked, rude, quick, unexpected life implosion – now what, what do they do now with this jumbled mess 2 .

    Notes on Numbers 202 1 Edition Dr. Thomas L. Constable TITLE The title the Jews used in their Hebrew Old Testament for this book comes from the fifth word in the book in the Hebrew text, bemidbar: "in the wilderness." This is, of course, appropriate since the Israelites spent most of the time covered in the narrative of Numbers in the wilderness. The English title "Numbers" is a translation of the Greek title Arithmoi. The Septuagint translators chose this title because of the two censuses of the Israelites that Moses recorded at the beginning (chs. 1—4) and toward the end (ch. 26) of the book. These "numberings" of the people took place at the beginning and end of the wilderness wanderings and frame the contents of Numbers. DATE AND WRITER Moses wrote Numbers (cf. Num. 1:1; 33:2; Matt. 8:4; 19:7; Luke 24:44; John 1:45; et al.). He apparently wrote it late in his life, across the Jordan from the Promised Land, on the Plains of Moab.1 Moses evidently died close to 1406 B.C., since the Exodus happened about 1446 B.C. (1 Kings 6:1), the Israelites were in the wilderness for 40 years (Num. 32:13), and he died shortly before they entered the Promised Land (Deut. 34:5). There are also a few passages that appear to have been added after Moses' time: 12:3; 21:14-15; and 32:34-42. Gordon* As of 2005, about 80,000 prisoners were housed in solitary confinement in jails and in state and federal prisons in the United States. Prisoners in solitary confine- ment are generally housed in a cell for twenty-two to twenty-four hours a day with little human contact or interaction. The number of prisoners held in solitary con- finement increased 40 percent between 1995 and 2000, in comparison to the growth in the total prison population of 28 percent. Concurrently, the duration of time that prisoners spend in solitary confinement also increased: nationally, most prisoners in solitary confinement spend more than five years there.

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes.     Scientia et Humanitas: A Journal of Student Research Analysis of the Airline Pilot Shortage Victoria Crouch Abstract The pilot shortage in the United States currently affects airlines and pilots drastically. The airlines have been forced to implement new solutions to recruit and retain pilots. These solutions include dramatic pay raises and cadet programs. One of the most significant causes of the pilot shortage is the aviation industry’s rapid growth. Other factors include the aging pilot popula- tion and high flight training costs. In addition, regional airlines, a major source of pilots for major airlines, have a historically low pay rate, which deters pilots from wanting to work for them. This situation is compounded by a lack of hiring in the 2000s for various reasons. The effects of the pilot shortage include decreased flights, loss of revenue, and closing of some re- gional airlines. Airlines have implemented various solutions aimed at increasing the number of pilots. These include an increased pay rate, job pathway programs through universities, and guaranteed interviews or jobs. The solutions proposed will likely prove their effectiveness in minimizing the pilot shortage over the next decade. Note: This research was correct prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected the airline industry. 92 Spring 2020 Scientia et Humanitas: A Journal of Student Research A global pilot shortage currently affects not only pilots but also their employ- ers. As a result, commercial airlines are forced to ground aircrafts because there are not enough pilots to fly them. As that discussion noted, the term “ARG” is somewhat problematic, and functions less as a clear definition than as a working title for projects that tend to share certain characteristics. Campaigns are likely to be considered ARGs if they bear several of the following traits: - Interactive stories that unfold across media platforms and real-life spaces - Offer an interactive, dispersed narrative experience - Require participants to reconstruct elements of a fragmented narrative - Refuse to acknowledge themselves as games - Have no clear rules or guidelines for participants - Require participants to solve difficult challenges or puzzles to progress - Encourage or require the formation of collaborative player communitiesa While Not (Just) An Advertisement was written to provide a systematic overview tracing the evolution and possible applications of alternate reality games, this paper is intended to supplement that discussion with a detailed case study of a recent, high- profile ARG campaign called The Lost Experience, and in the process, to consider current challenges facing both content producers and corporate sponsors moving into the ARG space.
