This Year, MTV Movie Awards Are 'Bigger, Badderer and Conaner' 04.09.2014 The MTV Movie Awards telecast has long been a digitally focused, socially integrated show, encouraging fan voting, Twitter tie-ins and an All Access Live Stream. This year, the social aspect is not going unnoticed, but the cable net has been more focused on billing the awards show, which airs April 13, as a perfect way to set the stage for the summer blockbuster season. To this end, MTV will present exclusive teasers to summer movies "The Fault in Our Stars" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2": But MTV's promo campaign has also centered on its host this year, who has a history of appealing to MTV's younger demographic. Conan O'Brien's TBS audience skews to the 18-34 age groups, a plus for both advertisers and MTV sponsors. But the stars don't stop there. MTV is also honoring Mark Wahlberg this year with the Generation Award for his work in TV and film, which will be presented to him onstage by the cast of "Entourage." To hype this appearance, they've released a series of promos featuring Wahlberg with MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz. Not one to miss out on the fun, Channing Tatum is slated to receive MTV's third annual Trailblazer Award. He and "22 Jump Street" costar Jonah Hill sat down with MTV's Horowitz for a series of interviews before the awards show to promote both his new film and his award. Each year, MTV changes which category is voted on via social sites, starting with Best Hero in 2012. Viewers can vote throughout the telecast using hash tags (e.g. #votekatniss, #voteloki). This is in addition to a socially based pre-show and, in true MTV awards show fashion, tons of Twitter and Facebook activity throughout the night. [Image courtesy of MTV].
