MSD of Perry Township Announce Partnership Synthetic Turf Installation at Perry Stadium MSD of Will Benefit all Perry Township Students Thanks to Ray Skillman Auto Group! Perry Township In the News Winter 2013 “Empowering Students to Grow Academically, Socially and Behaviorally” Ray Skillman Auto Group, the Perry Township Education Foundation and MSD of Perry Township Announce Partnership The Perry Township Education Foundation (PTEF) and Metropolitan School District of Perry Township are pleased to announce a long-term partnership with Ray Skillman Auto Group to benefit the students in Perry Township schools. Beginning in 2012, owner Ray Skillman has pledged to donate $100,000 per year for a total of $900,000 to underwrite the cost of the installation of a synthetic turf field at Perry Stadium in the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township. Installation of the synthetic turf field will begin in April and will be ready for the fall 2013 football season. In an effort to inspire the Perry Township community to invest philanthropically in its schools, PTEF has announced the Ray Skillman Challenge. The Ray Skillman Challenge is an initiative to raise an additional $1,000,000 from private contributors to benefit the students in Perry Township schools. The Ray Skillman gift challenges the Perry Township community to also partner in the effort to provide program and facility upgrades. These private dollars will be solicited by a very dedicated group of Perry Township community members. Update on Facilities and Operations “Louie” Dampier’s Basketball Jersey No. 32 Retired Louie Dampier's jersey No. 32 now hangs from the rafters of the SHS Fieldhouse. His jersey was officially honored and retired on February 1st at a ceremony at the SHS vs. PMHS varsity basketball game at the historic Southport Fieldhouse. Dampier began his basketball career at SHS. He went on to play the game at the University of Kentucky and as a professional for the Kentucky Colonels and San Antonio Spurs. MSDPT Receives an A+ Standards and Poor’s (S & P) Rating Services* upgraded your school district to an A+ bond rating. The rating agency cited the district’s stabilizing finances and ability to manage their cash reserves as the prime reason for the upgrade. The two successful referenda were also stated as strong reasons for the higher rating earned by the district. There are only fourteen other school districts in Indiana with an A+ rating or higher. The former NBA center, who spent four-plus seasons with the Hawks, is among 12 finalists for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The announcement will be made Monday in Indianapolis, hours before the NCAA men’s championship game. An eight-time All-Star, Mutombo was chosen a finalist for the Class of 2015 in February, along with seven-time All-Star Jo Jo White, five-time All-Star Tim Hardaway, four-time All-Star Spencer Haywood and three-time All-Star Kevin Johnson. “Being from Africa, who would have ever thought that my name would have been called to the Basketball Hall of Fame?” Mutombo said in February. “I never dreamed of playing basketball to reach this level.” Other finalists are three-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie, NBA referee Dick Bavetta, Kentucky coach John Calipari, Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan, former NBA coach Bill Fitch and high school coaches Robert Hughes and Leta Andrews. Finalists must receive a minimum of 18 of 24 votes to be elected by the Honors Committee. Already chosen from the Class of 2015 as direct elects were John Isaacs, Louie Dampier, Lindsay Gaze, Tom Heinsohn and George Raveling. Mutombo played for the Hawks from 1996-2001.
