DK Timeline By Banzai Bill

Before Jr. was born, the fierce pirate Prince Skurvy stole a magical emblem known as the Crystal Coconut and hid it in the idol of the Inka Dinka Doo,1 located on Kongo Bongo Island in the Kremisphere.2 Prince Skurvy intended the Crystal Coconut to be for his descendants,3 this but little did he know that someone else would stumble upon the power source in the distant future… Many years later, Donkey Kong Sr. and his wife Wrinkly Kong raised their infant son Donkey Kong Jr.4 Their son turned out to be a Star Child, possessive of an extraordinary amount of power and destined for great things.5 One day, an intruder from another time paid a visit to the Kongs. He was actually the adult form of Donkey Kong Jr. Inspired by 's ability to summon his baby self to participate in sporting events, Donkey Kong agreed to use Mario's Time Machine to do the same. As a result, Baby Donkey Kong played a series of baseball games with a bunch of strangers in the future.6 After they finished playing, Baby Donkey Kong was mistakenly clumped with Baby Mario and company back onto Mario's Time Machine. Consequently, Baby Donkey Kong was sent back to the wrong time period of a younger generation. While in this phase, some unknown apes took in the abandoned baby ape. Their aid would be short-lived, as the future Kamek would end up capturing him in his plot to use the Star Children to help the future King Bowser Koopa take over the universe. With the help of some Yoshis and other Star Children, they managed to foil King Bowser Koopa's plan. After the adventure, the storks returned Baby Donkey Kong to his adoptive parents.7 The adult Donkey Kong Jr. eventually realized that his infant self was returned to the wrong time. With Mario's Time Machine, he went back to the past, discovered the events of Yoshi's Island DS, found his infant self, and warped him back to his proper place in time. Over the years, Donkey Kong Jr. aged into a child. One day, a Brooklyn carpenter by the name of Mario8 (nicknamed “Jumpman” for his impressive jumping abilities) and his girlfriend

1 Pauline9 set out for a ship voyage. They came across Kongo Bongo Island via an interdimensional rift (an example of this can be seen here). Unaware that they just crossed worlds, Mario and were amazed with the talking apes on the island. Thus, Mario set a trap and captured Donkey Kong Sr., making him his pet for his planned circus show.10 Furious, Donkey Kong easily broke out of Mario’s trap and captured Pauline to lure him to danger. Mario followed Donkey Kong into Big Ape City to battle Donkey Kong and save Pauline.11 After unplugging the girders' rivets, Mario led Donkey Kong to his fall and locked him in a cage, capturing his “pet” once again.12 Realizing that his father was captured, Donkey Kong Jr. set out to rescue him. He chased Mario through a jungle and factory before reaching a construction site, where he successfully unlocked his father's cage and destroyed the platform Mario was standing on.13 The bonk on the head gave Mario a mild case of amnesia, and he began to refer to Pauline as his niece.14 Despite his wavy memory, Mario still became determined to capture Donkey Kong for his circus. Donkey Kong Sr. and Jr. fled from Kongo Bongo Island via boat, and Mario and Pauline followed behind them, returning to the interdimensional rift, leading them all to Earth. While Donkey Kong Sr. constantly leaped ahead of Mario's traps, Donkey Kong Jr. continued to try to catch up with his father to make sure he wasn't caught.15 At the end of it all, the Kongs remained ahead and reunited as a disgruntled Mario and Pauline had no choice but to sail their ship back home. Donkey Kong Sr. and his son eventually retraced their steps and sailed back through the interdimensional rift to return home to Kongo Bongo Island. What they didn't know was that they had a stowaway: Stanley the Bugman. After witnessing the antics of the gorilla in a previous quarrel,16 the curious Stanley wanted to investigate the nature of these strangely intelligent apes. But when they sailed by Juicy Jungle, Stanley's green thumb nature couldn't help but marvel at the miraculously huge produce. He claimed a greenhouse by a fruit factory to care for some flowers.17 Enraged to see a human sneak back to his homeland, Donkey Kong Sr. broke into Stanley the Bugman's greenhouse, stirring up an army of insects! Stanley the Bugman used his bug spray to repel the pests and stop Donkey Kong.18 Donkey Kong Sr. continued living with the Kong family on their home island. After Donkey Kong Jr. grew into a heavyweight, the Kongs received a surprise invitation from Mario. By this time he had already rediscovered the warp to the Mushroom Kingdom and had settled there after becoming the savior of the land.19 To improve the relations after their initial conflict, Mario invited the Kongs to events like kart racing and a tennis tournament. While Donkey Kong Sr. had no interest in reconnecting with his rival, Donkey Kong Jr. accepted the challenge20 and

2 represented his family. As a result, the Kongs and Mario put their previous conflict behind them, but found it amusing to re-spark this competitive rivalry in sporting events. As the years passed, Donkey Kong Sr. aged to Cranky Kong while Donkey Kong Jr. aged into the modern Donkey Kong.21 During this time, a race of anthropomorphic crocodiles known as the Kremlings migrated from Crocodile Isle to Kongo Bongo Island. Tensions arose between ape and lizard when the Kremling leader, King K. Rool, built Kremkroc Industries and set base there.22 It was then when the idol of the Inca Dinka Doo descended the Crystal Coconut from his eye. Donkey Kong came across the coconut, who discovered that is was a magical power source that claimed that the Kongs would rule the island. Furious with this prophecy, K. Rool was determined to steal the Crystal Coconut to abuse its powers and take over Kongo Bongo Island. Time and time again he tried stealing it, only to be foiled by the Kong Klan.23 Finally, the day of the prophecy came. In another attempt to steal the Crystal Coconut, a frustrated Donkey Kong shattered it to prevent K. Rool from abusing its magic, thereby undoing the Crystal Coconut's prophecy. Since Donkey Kong “gave up everything,”24 Inca Dinko Doo was pleased with his sacrifice and declared Donkey Kong as ruler as he used his powers to erect a giant DK mountain face in the center of the island. From then on Kongo Bongo Island was known as Donkey Kong Island. The Crystal Coconut fragments still retained some magic, but were not powerful enough to be useful for K. Rool. Around this time, K. Rool discovered that his second- in-command, General Klump, was a long-lost brother to Kaptain Skurvy,25 the leader of a group of pirate Kremlings who defected from the Kremling Krew. With Donkey Kong as their common foe, they joined forces, with K. Rool declaring himself as both King and Kaptain, whereas Skurvy was denounced as one of many Kannons. With his army strengthened, K. Rool planned out a perfect plot for revenge… Donkey Kong's banana hoard was the target. Despite K. Rool's distaste for bananas,26 he wanted to get revenge by stealing DK's most prized possession. After sealing his little buddy in a DK barrel, the Kremlings stole Donkey Kong's entire collection. Donkey Kong freed Diddy and set out on a journey around the island to reclaim every last banana. DK and Diddy eventually reached K. Rool on the Gangplank Galleon, knocked K. Rool senseless, and completed the entire banana hoard.27 Cranky Kong wasn't entirely satisfied with his son's success. Nauseated by the sales of the adaptation of Donkey Kong's adventure, Cranky Kong pestered DK and Diddy, claiming that they would never be as great as a video game star as he was. One day he challenged DK and Diddy to let the Kremlings steal the bananas again, and to have their adventure adapted into a video game on the graphically-challenged system. Donkey and Diddy agreed to the challenged and prepared for the pseudo-sequel. They explored the island yet again, and encountered K. Rool in Big Ape City, where they used the

3 same head-bonking tactics to knock out the king and retrieve their bananas once more.28 K. Rool's growing hatred for the Kongs pushed him to greater extremes. He had his troops sneak into Donkey Kong Island and ape-nap Donkey Kong, bringing him to Crocodile Isle.29 To add salt to the wound, K. Rool demanded the banana hoard in exchange for returning Donkey Kong. Diddy decided to set out to rescue his best buddy, while proving himself as a video game hero in the process. His girlfriend Dixie insisted on joining him on the quest, and they both fought their way to the Flying Croc, where they battled against Kaptain K. Rool and rescued Donkey Kong. During their journey, however, Diddy and Dixie heard rumors of a Kremling Lost World, and their curiosity led them to unlock the Krocodile Kore, only to be ambushed again by K. Rool. They sent K. Rool flying into the power source of the Kore, causing Crocodile Isle to violently shake. Retreating from the island, Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie watched K. Rool's Keep explode as the island sank into the depths of the ocean. The last thing they saw was K. Rool sailing away into the horizon.30 About a year later, Donkey and Diddy planned an expedition to explore the neighboring isles around the Northern Kremisphere. They set out, and to Dixie's surprise, didn't return for days. She then set out on her own journey to find the missing Kongs, teaming up with Kiddy Kong as they encountered more Kremlings with their new ruler: a robot named KAOS. On their travels, they saved some mystical creatures called Banana Birds. Finally, they made it to Kastle KAOS and shut down KAOS, only to be surprised by the return of K. Rool, under the guise of the mad scientist Baron K. Roolenstein. After defeating him by knocking him into his own electric traps, Dixie and Kiddy found Donkey and Diddy in KAOS's body, being used as the robot's brain. Before heading back home to DK Island, Dixie and Kiddy found the Lost World of Krematoa and discovered K. Rool's secret submarine, the Knautilus. Infuriated, K. Rool attacked, only to be defeated by the Kongs again. After surviving the onslaught, Dixie and Kiddy grabbed the last DK Coin and used it to pay Funky Kong for the Gyrocopter. Sailing through the clouds, they discovered the Queen Banana Bird, who explained that K. Rool sealed her away and that only her children, the Banana Birds, could break the seal. Dixie and Kiddy rescued all the Banana Birds and liberated the queen, who immediately egged K. Rool for the offense.31 Months later, Donkey and Diddy headed off into the Northern Kremisphere again, this time to win a contest by being the first to discover another Lost World. Ticked off that they would leave without her, Dixie decided to bring Kiddy again and join the search. Thanks to their teamwork, Dixie and Kiddy managed to find the Lost World, only to encounter Baron K. Roolenstein once again. Using their abilities, they were able to beat K. Rool again and win the contest.32 The Kongs' next threat would come in the unlikeliest of places: outer space. Wizpig, an intergalactic racer, decided to invade Timber's Island, which was famous for its race courses. Timber the Tiger, who was entrusted by his parents to look after the island, wrote to his friend Diddy Kong to beg for his help. Diddy traveled to Timber's Island, where he and his friends took part in a series of races to prove their worth. Only then could they challenge Wizpig. Once Diddy and company did reach him and beat him in a race, he became so

4 humiliated that he left the island, but not before trashing their victory party. Angry with the sore loser, the racers used a lighthouse that was secretly a rocket to blast off to Wizpig's planet.33 (Hey, don't look at me like that, I just report the facts!) On his home planet, Wizpig challenged the animals to a rematch. After losing again, Wizpig's rocket misfired, blasting him off into outer space. Diddy and company returned to Timber's Island to celebrate their final victory. While there were rumors that Wizpig's spacecraft could be seen flying around from time to time, the intergalactic pig hasn't been seen since.34 It's not every day a superior being handpicks you for an interdimensional fighting tournament. But so it went. Master Hand, a mystical higher power,35 summoned Donkey Kong, as well as Mario and some of his friends, to compete in a series of battles with other noteworthy heroes of other times and dimensions. After rounds of challenges, the victors were deemed worthy to face Master Hand himself. Once the tournament concluded, the challengers were sent back to their worlds,36 but with a gift. A trophy stand. Yes, now the Kongs had a gateway— they could use the power of trophy technology to transcend themselves beyond the boundaries of time and space to reconnect with the other contestants and host more tournaments. And as trophies they wouldn't have to worry about holding back, since the worst they could do was temporarily turn into stone. Little did they know that another entity would take advantage of this in the future… Years had passed since the Kremlings last stressed the Kongs' lives. As the Kongs got used to a quiet life without the Kremlings, K. Rool was preparing for his most insane plan yet. Instead of trying to conquer Donkey Kong Island, he figured he would return the favor and destroy the Kongs' home isle. After building a mechanical island to call his new home, K. Rool had Snide, his weasel henchman, lead as the chief technician for the Blast-O-Matic, which he would use to blow up Donkey Kong Island. Eventually K. Rool felt that he couldn't trust Snide and so expelled him from the Kremling Krew. Finally, the day came. K. Rool sailed the new mechanical Crocodile Isle to DK Isle, only to have his minions crash it into land, damaging the Blast-O-Matic. Fearing that the Kongs would notice the new island and learn of his plot, he ordered his troops to distract the Kongs by stealing their hoard of Golden Bananas and by capturing members of the Kong family. Donkey Kong was spared by Squawks the Parrot's alarm, and he set out on a journey to save his family and recover his Golden Bananas. Early in his adventure, he met K. Lumsy, a giant Kremling who was imprisoned for his lack of reptile ruthlessness. Donkey Kong agreed to find the keys to liberate him. He then eventually bumped into Snide, who revealed to him K. Rool's ultimate motive of destroying the island. Finally reaching K. Rool's hideout on the mechanical isle, the Kongs were successful in breaking in and deactivating the Blast-O-Matic before it could fire at DK Island. K. Rool attempted a getaway, but the Kongs found the last key to K. Lumsy's prison, who then chased down K. Rool before he could make his escape. The Kongs eventually did battle with K. Rool (this time in a boxing ring), knocking him senseless.37 After another defeat, the Kremlings had no choice but to push the mechanical Crocodile Isle out of DK Island's beach and retreat. And then many years passed. Without those pestering Kremlings, the Kongs chilled out, and occasionally accepted more of Mario's sporting invitations.38 Donkey Kong did, however,

5 have a fight with Mario over some Mini Mario toys.39 To kill time, Donkey and Diddy even played with some magical bongos they found on the beach one day.40 Donkey Kong wouldn't have another adventure, however, until some ruthless kings conquered the nearby fruit kingdoms.41 Wanting to liberate the Party Monkeys, DK journeyed through the lands and fought each of the tyrants. He finally reached the ultimate rulers: the Cactus King and the Ghastly King. After challenging and besting them, the Party Monkeys (and the former Kong rulers) celebrated as peace returned to the fruit kingdoms.42 Back on Donkey Kong Island, the Kongs decided to celebrate DK's kingship of the lands. They planned to have the Jungle Jam Tournament to crown the jungle hero. During the ceremony, however, K. Rool made a surprise reappearance and stole all the medals! Donkey Kong set out to reclaim them all. After defeating K. Rool again, he retrieved the medals and the Kongs continued their festival.43 Years later, the Kong Klan took a vacation on Sun Sun Island, before they spotted a giant flying banana in the sky. When the giant banana attacked DK and Diddy, they fought back, causing it to crash down. The Kongs discovered that it was actually a banana-shaped spaceship, piloted by the alien Xananab. He apologized for mistaking the Kongs for Kremlings and explained that K. Rool stole his powerful Crystal Bananas to take over the universe. DK and Diddy chased down K. Rool, recovering one Crystal Banana at a time. They finally reached K. Rool's spaceship, the King Kruiser IV, and cornered K. Rool, who used the Xananab's Spinowarp to escape to Xananab's home planet, Plantaen. The Kongs followed through the warp and faced K. Rool before he could start his conquest. In desperation, K. Rool swallowed the last Crystal Banana, powering him up into a giant! In this godlike form, he summoned storms and meteoroids to crush the Kongs, but DK and Diddy's teamwork prevailed as they were able to smack his thick head enough times to knock him out and vomit the Crystal Banana, reducing him back to normal. Ecstatic to have his bananas back, Xananab threw the Kongs a banana feast before sending them all back to their home planet.44 By saving the universe, Donkey Kong truly proved his status as a Star Child. Deciding it was time to compete in another fighting tournament, Donkey Kong utilized trophy technology to channel himself into a trophy to battle. This time, Diddy Kong received an invitation to join. While stationed on an island in the Kid Icarus dimension, the Super Smash Bros. contestants waited for their turn in the stadium, until the Subspace Army attacked. Using Subspace Bombs, the army dragged pieces of the world into a realm known as Subspace. The Smash Bros. heroes resisted while Master Hand, as the commander of the Subspace Army, made an alliance with the villains to stop their efforts by granting them the power to freeze them into helpless trophies. But when they discovered that Master Hand was being controlled by an imposter entity known as Tabuu, the villains had to fight alongside the Smash Bros. heroes to break into the Subspace realm and stop Tabuu from dragging their world into his domain. With their friends and enemies teamed up together, the Super Smash Bros. contestants successfully defeated Tabuu and his army, restoring the world as it should be. Then the contestants continued with their fighting tournament45 before transferring

6 themselves back to their worlds. Quiet times returned to Donkey Kong Island, though the Kongs broke it to have a racing tournament.46 Later Donkey Kong borrowed Mario's Time Machine to summon his baby self to play baseball,47 kickstarting the whole time fiasco mentioned earlier. After restoring the timeline by bringing Baby Donkey Kong back to his rightful place in time, the Kongs couldn't help but notice a volcano beginning to form on Donkey Kong Island. Eventually, this formation caused the icy Gorilla Glacier region to melt and the DK mountain face to crumble. The volcano suddenly erupted, unleashing the Tiki Tak Tribe, who immediately hypnotized the animals of DK Island to steal Donkey Kong's banana hoard. After a tiki failed to hypnotize Donkey Kong, he and Diddy set out to reclaim the bananas once again. On DK and Diddy's journey, they discovered that the Tiki Tak Tribe used the bananas to create new tiki members and increase their ranks and dominion over the island. Finally, the duo reached the peak of the volcano and broke into the Tiki Tong Tower, where they encountered the Tiki Tak Tribe's ruler, Tiki Tong. After defeating Tiki Tong, the force of his explosion sent Donkey and Diddy flying into space. DK used this opportune moment to punch the moon, crushing the Tiki Tong Tower, which led to the destroyed tikis reverting back into bananas. This banana rain activated an ancient statue to reveal the Golden Temple. DK and Diddy explored this newly discovered structure and found a warp to a fruity dimension,48 which may have been the origin of the tikis. After exploring this new world, DK and Diddy returned home, with their banana hoard reclaimed once again.49 It was supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for Donkey Kong. But as he and the Kongs celebrated, a new threat invaded. The Snowmads, a band of arctic animal Vikings from the northern seas, decided to make Donkey Kong Island their new home. Lord Fredrik, the Snowmad King, used his magic horn to cast an eternal winter upon the island. The fierce winds blew away Donkey, Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky, allowing the Vikings to settle into their new frozen home with no resistance. And so the four Kongs journeyed together as they island-hopped closer and closer to Donkey Kong Island, battling the Vikings along the way. They finally returned to Donkey Kong Island and made their way to the top where Lord Fredrik set camp. After battling against the Viking king, the Kongs knocked him out of the isle, where he crashed into the remaining Snowmad ships, thus ending their control of the land. Lord Fredrik also happened to drop his magic horn, so Donkey Kong used its power to thaw out his homeland. Donkey Kong and company celebrated as their island returned to its tropical glory.50 Donkey Kong’s next escapade would be nothing less than insane. In an alternate dimension, a human scientist (who just happened to be a huge Mario fan) managed to invent the SupaMerge, a special visor that could fuse two objects into one. It just so happened, however, that the Rabbids, a species of maniacal anthropomorphic rabbits, used their Time Washing Machine to break into the scientist’s home and steal her invention. They began playing around with the SupaMerge, merging the invading Rabbids with the scientist’s Mario merchandize, thus creating Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, Rabbid Mario, and others. Beep-O, the scientist’s robotic assistant, attempted to stop the Rabbids, but after the Time

7 Washing Machine malfunctioned, Beep-O and all the Rabbids were warped across time and space as they created a vortex into the Mushroom Kingdom. All this occurred while Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi were joining Princess Peach for the inauguration of her new statue. It was then that the vortex ripped through the sky, with the force separating the Mushroom Kingdom’s heroes while the Rabbids came crashing down. During this chaos, the SupaMerge fused with the Rabbid who wore it, giving him the power to merge objects within his sight. He inadvertently caused objects to merge simply by looking at them, which unfortunately lead to a corruption, causing the infected Rabbids to wreck havoc across the kingdom. Yet Mario and Beep-O joined forces and teamed up with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Luigi, who agreed to help Mario since they were fortunately formed before the corruption of the SupaMerge. With the efforts of their teamwork, they defeated the Rabbids, causing them to be freed from the corruption. Yet as they liberated the Rabbids, the negative corruption energy gathered together in a vortex in the sky, forming into the Megabug. This collection of negative energy became worrisome, but the heroes had no choice but to allow the Megabug to grow as they continued to liberate the Rabbids and restore order to the Mushroom Kingdom. Their primary goal was to find and contain the Rabbid with the SupaMerge so as to prevent him from corrupting any more of the kingdom. Yet Bowser Jr. saw this unfolding as he began to form his own plan. With his father out on vacation, the royal Koopa prince figured that he would conquer the Mushroom Kingdom by befriending the targeted Rabbid, whom he named Spawny. He successfully formed and alliance with the timid Spawny, thus forcing the heroes to travel across the Mushroom Kingdom as they chased Bowser Jr. and Spawny, fighting more Rabbids on their way and causing the Megabug to grow more and more. On their travels, the heroes defeated Rabbid Kong, a fusion of Donkey Kong and a Rabbid. Sometime later, Rabbid Kong happened to be tinkering with the Rabbid’s Time Washing Machine, accidentally activating it. Spawny happened to witness this commotion and his nervous reaction to it caused him to inadvertently shoot out some of the SupaMerge’s corrupted energy towards Rabbid Kong, corrupting his bananas and making him more powerful. All this occurred while Rabbid Peach attempted to recharge her phone by plugging it into the Time Washing Machine. Beep-O tried to stop her, but he along with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Kong found themselves teleporting away with the Time Washing Machine. They landed on Donkey Kong Island where Rabbid Kong decided to form an army of Rabbids in order to get his revenge due to his previous defeat. As Rabbid Peach and Beep-O found themselves surrounded by hostile Rabbids, Donkey Kong and Rabbid Cranky came to their rescue. Forming a team, the heroes decided that they needed to destroy Rabbid Kong’s corrupted bananas to stop the spread of the Megabug’s influence while also restoring the lost pieces of the Time Washing Machine so that Rabbid Peach and Beep-O could return to the Mushroom Kingdom and finish their quest to recover Spawny. So they chased after Rabbid Kong, defeating his soldiers and destroying his supply of corrupted bananas. After defeating Rabbid Kong, the corrupted energy left the bananas on Donkey Kong island, ridding the land of the Megabug’s influence. Donkey Kong and his friends then rebuilt the Time Washing Machine, allowing Rabbid Peach and Beep-O to continue their previous adventure. But Rabbid Kong befriended our heroes and decided to stay behind on Donkey Kong Island. Thus did Donkey Kong welcome his new friends, Rabbid Cranky and Rabbid Kong, as Rabbid Peach and Beep-O returned to restoring order in the Mushroom Kingdom.51
