ENTERTAINMENT Company Town THE BUSINESS BEHIND THE SHOW « Previous Post | Company Town Home | Next Post » FX's 'Lawman' shoots locally October 27, 2009 | 9:00 am The new FX TV show "Lawman," about a U.S. marshal, is set in Kentucky. But the series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, will begin shooting on Wednesday -- thousands of miles away from the Bluegrass State. The drama, which stars Timothy Olyphant and is based on the short story by Elmore Leonard, will premiere in February (Not to be confused with A&E's "Steven Seagal: Lawman," which premieres in December). The series could easily have been filmed in Pittsburgh, where the pilot episode was shot. Instead, it has made its home in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, thanks to a $4-million state tax credit the series will receive for the first season under California's new film incentive program. "We are extremely grateful that this new program allows us to keep the series here,'' said Ed Lammi, executive vice president of production for Sony Pictures Television. "Lawman" is among 36 film and TV productions set to shoot in-state (mostly in the L.A. area) in the fourth quarter of 2009 as a result of California's new film and TV production incentive. In all, 50 productions have qualified to receive about $100 million in tax credits since the program debuted in July. The state allocated $500 million over a five-year period. The program offers up to a 20% to 25% tax credit for TV series that relocate to California, new TV series produced for basic cable, movies of the week and feature films that cost less than $75 million.

FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue? • Die Hard 4.0 Talent
Die Hard 4.0 Talent: Bruce Willis, Timothy Olyphant, Justin Long, Maggie Q, Cliff Curtis, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kevin Smith. Date of review: Thursday 9th August 2007 Director: Len Wiseman Duration: 127 minutes Classification: M We rate it: 4 and a half stars. When it opened in 1988, the original Die Hard wowed audiences, ushered in a new generation of blockbuster Hollywood action-thrillers, and made a megastar of Bruce Willis, who was, at the time, the still-hirsute star of TV’s Moonlighting. The director of the original film, John McTiernan, was a young filmmaker whose skills with an action sequence were considerable; he would return to the franchise a few years later to make the third instalment, Die Hard With A Vengeance, a disappointing though still very bankable entry. Now, with Die Hard 4.0 (and yes, the odd title does have something to do with the plot) the still-tough as nails Bruce returns, under the direction of young action-thriller wunderkind Len Wiseman, who was responsible for the wildly entertaining popcorn thrillers Underworld and Underworld Evolution. The results, I am delighted to say, are absolutely smashing, in every sense of that word. The use of software numbering in title refers to the modus operandi of the badguys in this film. The tough and rather chilling conspiracy at the centre of Die Hard 4.0 involves technology. Criminal mastermind Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) is a coldly brilliant computer genius who has assembled a group of America’s most gifted mercenary programmers and computer hackers in order to carry out an elaborate cyber-attack on the country’s entire electronic infrastructure.

Both engage extensively in visuals and audio, both can indulge in speculative fiction, and there is a healthy amount of sharing of inspiration and content. However, this does not guarantee successful adaptations from one form to another.
