    NOVEMBER N. 156 EOC …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. We are all French, Russian, Turkish – this was the theme for the month of November across the whole world. The Olympic family of Europe offered its solidarity and sympathy with the victims of recent terror attacks across Europe during its annual General Assembly in Prague: a deeply European moment for all members of the EOC. At the beginning of November, EOC President Patrick Hickey faced numerous responsibilities as the end of 2015 loomed - a year which he has defined as “historic”. The biggest engagment for Patrick Hickey was the EOC General Assembly in Prague, where he welcomed the leaders of the Olympic Movement, including IOC President Thomas Bach, ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al- Sabah, and IOC and EOC Honorary Presidents Jacques Rogge and Mario Pescante. Czech Olympic Committee President Jiří Kejval was also a prominent figure throughout the weekend and delegates were honoured by the presence of Milos Zeman, the President of the Czech Republic. Following the meetings in Prague, President Hickey went on to Monte Carlo for the 8th Peace and Sport International Forum, chaired by HSH Prince Albert II. Whilst there, the President of the EOC joined a panel of judges awarding this year’s distinctions, which were presented during the Grand Gala at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club. November 2015 was not a month to be forgotten easily. 4th Executive Committee meeting of 2015 - On the eve of the 44th EOC General Assembly, the Executive Committee met in the Czech capital to review the year’s activities. Czech Olympic Committee President Jiří Kejval and Secretary General Petr Graclik attended the opening, offering their European colleagues and President Patrick Hickey a warm welcome.

    EOC NEWSLETTER No. 214 July 2021 MESSAGE FROM THE EOC PRESIDENT Dear colleagues, As the world’s focus continues to be on the exceptional exploits of the Olympic athletes at Tokyo 2020, it is especially pleasing to see our European athletes performing so well on the biggest stage in sport. At the time of writing, 37 European National Olympic Committees (ENOCs) have already won at least one medal, a fantastic achievement and we look forward to seeing how this improves before the Games are over. I have been in the Japanese capital for over two weeks now, and while these Olympic Games have been extraordinarily difficult to organise under the circumstances, they are nevertheless taking place smoothly and in a jovial and amicable atmosphere. More than anything, these Olympic Games have provided the world with much-needed hope and inspiration at a much-needed time. I would therefore like to extend my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped get these Games off the ground – from International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and his colleagues to our excellent and impeccable Japanese hosts to all of you: our 50 ENOCs and your teams of administrators, coaches, trainers, physicians and many others. All of you, especially your athletes, have had to overcome a great deal of adversity over the last year and a half and your continued professionalism is evident in how well Europe is represented in Tokyo. The Olympic Movement as a whole should be rightfully proud of this historic undertaking. Looking ahead, the summer break is nearly upon us, which will be an opportunity to refresh ourselves for what will surely be a busy end to the year.

    AUGUST/SEPTEMBER N. 165 EOC …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. An Olympic summer. For the last two months, the Olympic family has focused its attention firmly on Rio 2016, the first Olympic Games to be held in South America. The Games were a great success for the athletes of Europe – Bravo everybody! Once again, the Athletes’ Village became a global meeting place where peace and friendship built ties between young athletes from every continent. But now we’re back to reality. Reports and studies are being undertaken to assess the Rio 2016 Games and, above all, ensure that the next Olympic Games benefit from the experience of their predecessor. We would like to congratulate the organisers for their goodwill and commend every country for its achievements and sportsmanship. Well done! The 3rd Executive Committee meeting of the year was held in Bratislava upon invitation from the Slovakian NOC, whose President, Frantisek Chmelar, is a member of the committee. The 2019 European Games was one of the main items on the agenda and the meeting was chaired by EOC Vice-President and acting President Janez Kocijančič, who took on the latter role after EOC President temporarily stepped aside from all Olympic positions last month, pending the outcomes of legal proceedings in Brazil. Speaking about Hickey’s situation, Kocijančič said: “Today the EOC unanimously confirmed our shared belief that Patrick Hickey is innocent and we are now exploring ways to help him completely clear his name so he can return to his family and Olympic duties.” Kocijančič added: “We have had a very productive meeting here today in Bratislava.
