During the dust bowl years, in 1936, they moved to Prosser, Wash. It was there that she met Ralph Olsen. Ralph came into the grocery store where she was working to buy a quart of ice cream. They both had eyes for each other. After a joyful courtship, they were married in 1939. That was truly a sweet quart of ice cream. Edye celebrated her 70th year of marriage to her loving husband Ralph on Sept. 3. They were life partners, working together both in their businesses and raising their three children. After retirement they built their dream home on the Yakima River, where they loved observing all the wildlife that also used the river for their home. Ralph and Edye loved to travel. Dad used to say that if he came home and said “let’s go to China,” she would be packed and ready to go in 10 minutes. Mom was proud of the fact that all three of her boys had attended college and that they served their country in the U.S. military. She was a loving and supportive mom. She did everything in her power to enable her kids to become successful. We called her Mommy as we were growing up and a great mommy she was.
