SPRINGWATER LANES BOWLING CENTRE SOLD! Waxy Gregoire; Dave Turner, Financial Advisor, National Bank Financial; Hello, Dan McGinnis here to announce Karlin Lalonde, State Farm Insurance, Midland; Pierre Pilote; and Sheila HUGE changes at Webb, Branch Manager, National Bank, Midland. All sponsors in the upcoming SPRINGWATER LANES. Gord Leonard Golf Tournament and Dinner. Effective on September 1st 2014, the Bowling Centre has been sold to another local guy, TYLER TURNER! Tyler is the 36 year old son of Gary and Wendy Turner. His partner and the mother of their three children is Christina Titterson. The children are Ashton, Samora and Mya and they are aged 12, 11 and 3 yrs old in that order. My family and I opened the Bowling Centre in October of 1995 and after 19 years, I just thought it was time for someone younger to take over and introduce his newer ideas into the business. I am confident that all of our league bowlers will continue to show the Turners the same consistent support that I have been fortunate enough to be have been given and that the many people in the area that are related to them will decide to try their luck at league bowling! Over the years, the Bowling Centre has become a mainstay in the Township. Many businesses have opened and closed since 1995. We have produced many great bowlers at the centre, both in the adult and youth levels. I have been fortunate enough to have felt the gratitude from so many families for the great times that they have shared with us at this place of business. I have seen many relationships built throughout the many leagues over the years. I have had the privilege to host so many bowling birthday parties, Church groups and family functions over the years. As far as Sue and I bowling, we will be right there, continuing to bowl in leagues until Tyler tells us to get out of the way. In an effort to make his first season of bowling amazing, I am asking that if you have ever considered joining a bowling league, stop thinking about it and do it. There are leagues for every age and at this point, the youth leagues could really use an influx of new bowlers. As well, the Thursday afternoon seniors league was short on players last season. If you are over 50 and are looking for a fun activity, consider joining this league. There are also mixed leagues on week nights that are always looking for new players and no experience is needed! If you would like to join a league, call 705-322-0676. ELMVALE MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION LATE REGISTRATION DATE I am sure that Tyler has many new plans for the Centre and he will keep you posted as to what TH these plans are as time goes on. Having served for 11 years at the Springwater Council table, most recently as Mayor, Collins brings a depth of experience and a proven track record of continuous hard work and responsive leadership. Linda’s rural upbringing and farming experience combined with 34 years as a teacher and administrator have maintained the discipline of hard work, lifelong learning and sound decision-making. Community involvement and volunteering were values instilled by Linda’s parents and practiced in all the school communities and places she lived – particularly through her involvement with the Church and music. Linda brings with her a variety of strengths and experience, as well as a strong sense of integrity. Her formal education includes a B.A. (Economics) from Wilfrid Laurier University and a M. Ed (General Administration) from the University of Toronto. Achievements promised and delivered from 2010 are: • More open and predictable decision-making Every month Collins wrote an article in the Springwater News about the decisions, issues, events and news taking place in the Council Chamber, and around the community. She consistently encouraged residents to attend council meetings to learn about the issues and share updates at the many community events she attended. • Steady, predictable budgets with emphasis on Capital improvements Capital improvements to allow Springwater to preserve and protect its infrastructure for the future help to prevent unavoidable tax rate increases. Linda has advocated for this type of responsible financial management throughout her 1 years on Council. • Planned and controlled development with much effort on Midhurst As the topic of development arises in Midhurst, and throughout the Township, Linda’s focus will continue to be on communication, public meetings, and the dialogue with residents as exemplified through the establishment of the Resident Liaison Group. • Enhanced Communication With the size and rural nature of our municipality, effective communication is critical to keep residents, business owners and visitors informed. Throughout her term, Linda has been committed to sharing information with the community. Website enhancements, Council’s Corner, regular media releases and radio/TV spots helped share this news. • Elmvale District High School – 2nd on SCDSB capital funding list EDHS has been a priority for the Township of Springwater Council, and Linda is pleased at the progress made during this term. It has been moved from the chopping block to 2nd on the list, and a Community partnership approved by the SCDSB and submitted to the Ministry is another assurance. • Springwater Health Services To serve the needs of Springwater, this Council has converted he old Knox Building to a fully-furnished, health clinic to house LifeLab’s return. This allowed for the restoration of blood services, and attracted a number of Health Services. The most notable was the Primary Health Care Nurse practitioner-lead clinic from south Community Health Centre. This brings additional health services, as needed, and bi-monthly services to the high school. Ongoing efforts for Physician Recruitment for the North and Barrie & Area have been fully funded from the fundraising efforts of the Mayor’s Golf Tournament. Linda will once again be paying all her own campaign expenses. In 2010, she ran her successful campaign for Mayor with no contributions from anyone. We have put One of the questions we frequently hear about the idea a deal together with School Board and are number of increasing water imports to Ontario is “What’s in it for # 1 on the Capital Expenditures list in getting the much needed Quebec?” addition onto the High School in Elmvale. We were all hoping we As it turns out, quite a bit. According to the Commission would get the phone call from the Ministry of Education to start this sur les enjeux énergétiques du Québec, which looked year but it didn’t happen. This is why I have decided to run again for into the province’s energy future in 2013, the province the second term. Keeping our High School in Elmvale is one of the will be exporting the majority of its power at low prices reasons why I ran the first time. I know it will be a challenge to say (about 3 cents per kWh) for the foreseeable future. That’s the least. Which is why I’m asking for your support to re-elect me because shale gas and increased efficiency have put to Ward # 2 for the second term. strong downward pressure on electricity prices in the U.S. Northeast, and because Quebec simply cannot export any When I first ran back in 2010 my list of concerns were 3 things: more power during peak periods to the U.S. market due to 1. Accountability on spending and taxes - Yes I have supported tax increases over the last four years and yes transmission line constraints. I have voted against tax increases. Compared to other municipalities, we are in good shape financially but there’s Quebec is hoping that new transmission lines will help it lot’s of room for improvement. I think its fair to say this council has taken an aggressive approach on tackling our address the latter problem, but these lines will take some infrastructures deficit. The province had requested and we complied with a asset management plan. The name years – and hundreds of millions of dollars – to construct speaks for itself. It is a plan to help manage the municipality’s assets. What’s lacking is the Provincial Government and not everyone on the U.S. side is welcoming of new providing infrastructure funding to the municipalities. The more funding we get the lower we can keep our taxes. transmission corridors through places like the Adirondack 2. Keeping our High School in Elmvale - We are # 1 on the Capital Expenditures list and waiting for the green Mountains. light from the Ministry to start building. So what’s a province with a growing surplus of water power to do? Well, one idea is to split the difference 3. Getting our blood services back in Elmvale - After countless meetings with health care officials, it was the between the price of Quebec’s exports to the U.S. and Local Health Integration Network (L.H.I.N.), Bernie Blase and Bob Morton, who we give thanks to for listening and Ontario Power Generation’s forecast of the cost of power to Life Labs for getting the blood services back to Elmvale. Our Blood Services Clinic is open Tuesday and Thursday from a re-built Darlington Nuclear Station in Ontario mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m..
