His book on “The Path of Ramanuja”, and “The Guide to 108 Divya Desams” in book form on the CD, has been well received in the religious circle. Preface: Tirth Yatras or pilgrimages have been an integral part of Hinduism. Pilgrimages are considered quite important by the ritualistic followers of Sanathana dharma. There are a few centers of sacredness, which are held at high esteem by the ardent devotees who dream to travel and worship God in these holy places. All these holy sites have some mythological significance attached to them. When people go to a temple, they say they go for Darsan – of the image of the presiding deity. The pinnacle act of Hindu worship is to stand in the presence of the deity and to look upon the image so as to see and be seen by the deity and to gain the blessings. There are thousands of Siva sthalams- pilgrimage sites - renowned for their divine images. And it is for the Darsan of these divine images as well the pilgrimage places themselves - which are believed to be the natural places where Gods have dwelled - the pilgrimage is made.

Lord Shiva as Brahma vidya guru is called dakṣiṇāmurti, and in वैष्णव स륍रदार्ः vaiṣṇava sampradāyaḥ, there is a deity हर्ग्रीवः hayagrīvaḥ and this hayagrīvaḥ also is looked upon as brahma vidya guru, as an aspect of Lord Vishnu. Thus dakṣiṇāmurti as an aspect of Lord Shiva and Hayagrīvaḥ as an aspect of ववष्णुः viṣṇuḥ; both are Brahma vidya gurus. And there is another name for Lord dakṣiṇāmurti as Brahma vidya guru, and that name is sadāśiva. And that is why we have these two popular verses, sadāśiva samārambhām śankarācāryamadyamām asmad ācarya paryantām vande guru paramparām. sadāśiva samārambhām means the dakṣiṇāmurti samarambha. dakṣiṇāmurti, which originated as the adi guru, and a parampara in which Lord Adi Sankaracharya has a very important role, śankarācāryamadyamām.

  • 6.श्री द्वादशज्योतितलिङ्ग स्तोत्रम् / Sri Dwadashajyotirlinga Stotram
Sankara Stotra Makaranda 6.श्री द्वादशज्योतितलिङ्ग स्तोत्रम् / Sri Dwadashajyotirlinga Stotram Introduction: Earlier in Dakshinamurthy Stotra, we saw the Himalayan heights of Gnana Marga, and now in Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotra we will see the peaks of Bhakti Marga. The essence of all these 12 Jyotirlingas is that Shiva has been so compassionate (Ashuthosha) that he has manifested himself in the form of Jyoti to those devotees, who reached out to him for Darshan and protection. They were ‘Aarthas’ (distressed). There are four types of devotees as mentioned in Bhagavad Gita in the following verse. Bhagavad Gita Ch 7.16 चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मा車जना賈 सुकृर्तनोजुिन। आतो र्जज्ञासुरर्ािर्ी ज्ञानी च भरतर्िभ॥ chaturvidhaa bhajantE maaM janaaH sukRutinOrjuna | aartO jignyaasurarthaarthee gnyaanee cha bharatarShabha || Oh descendant of Bharata, there are four kinds of persons who are privileged to worship me – those who are in distress, the inquisitive, those that seek wealth and those that desire self-realization. All the 12 devotees here were ‘Aarthas’, including Sri Rama. They had some misery or the other and hence approached Shiva who immediately emanated from the Jyoti, and gave darshan and succour. Our Kanchi Periyava, Sri H H Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal has emphasized Jyotirlinga yatra and he personally visited every Jyotirlinga Kshetram and installed Adi Shankara’s idol in all the Kshetrams. In Kailash Manasarovar also, he has installed the idol. Shiva is always worshipped in the form of a “Linga”. Parabrahmam manifests in two forms – “Saguna” (assumes an “aakaara”, form - Saakaara) and “Nirguna” (no “aakaara” i.e., Niraakaara).

Srividya Upasana Rahasyam SRI RAJARAJESHWARI KRIPA Srividya Upasana Rahasyam file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/sbalijepalli/Desktop/Srividya%20Upasana%20Rahasyam.htm (1 of 35)4/19/2005 5:44:02 AM Srividya Upasana Rahasyam Shakta school holds Advaita as the ultimate reality in an equal perspective and of the same ideal as of the monastic Vedanta. This is evident from the sacred and mysterious monosyllable (Pranava) attributed to each thought and consisting of the corresponding seed-letters (Bijaksharas). The Pranava of Vedic thought is AUM. Correspondingly, the Shakta and Shaiva schools use ‘Hrim’ and ‘Aham’ respectively. Since all the Pranavas end in the Bindu, it is natural that the Bindu is the material cause for all the factors. It is the unconditional Brahman or the all- pervading Supreme Truth from which emanate all the conditional entities. Paraa- Bindu is the immeasurable entity into which this entire manifestational phenomenon finds repose. This power of creation and absorption, quite inseparable from its holder Shiva, is called Shakti. The magnificence, grace and beauty of this primordial Power make up eternal bliss. In consequence, there is a latent agreement among all mankind and this truth must be the one we seek. Accordingly, religions in general are at one with each other. Each has a philosophy antagonistic to the special dogma of the other. The Vedic Rishis have already declared, “The Brahman is surely different from the known, and again, it is above the unknown – such was the utterance we heard of the ancient teachers who explained it to us” (Kena 1.4). Shiva is the transcendent self, the divine power of conservation and Shakti is immanent, the divine energy of pulsation (Spanda).

OM SRI GURUBHYO NAMAH from Tamil book by Pu.Ma.JAYASENTHILNATHAN, M.A. (Asthana Vidvan, Sri Sankara Matham, Kanchipuram) and other sources Released during the SAHASRADINA SATHABHISHEKAM CELEBRATIONS of Jagadguru Sri JAYENDRA SARASWATHI SWAMIGAL Sankaracharya of Moolamnaya Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Kanchipuram November 2015 Compiler’s Preface The unbounded Grace of Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham has made me take up the impossible task of compiling his Vijaya Yatras based on Sri Pulavar Ma.Jayasenthilnathan’s book in Tamil ‘Sri Jayendra Vijayam’ – parts 1 and 2. The contents of the two volumes have been assembled and abridged. Information has also been updated, mainly in the Appendices based on other sources. A multifaceted personality, simplicity personified- that is our Swamigal in a nutshell. His one trait, which none, who has had his fleeting darshan even once, will miss is his geniality and the infectious and bewitching smile on his lustrous face. The revered Paramacharya Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal had said that he himself was the “Iccha Sakthi” and his disciple was the “Kriya Sakthi”. This was with reference to how his devoted disciple carried out his every wish. Soon after his becoming Peethadhipati, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal wrote Page 2 of 128 a treatise on Brahma Sutra Bhashya, titled ‘Gurupriya’, as desired by his Guru. Known for clarity, cogency and brevity, Gurupriya is intended to serve as a refresher to the serious student engaged in manana, contemplation. Sri Acharya Swamigal has become the prime mover over the years in projects that have far - reaching impact in manifold areas of Vedic education, maintenance of heritage including temples, social welfare, health, child care, and village crafts and education.

  • Temples Within Chennai City
Temples within Chennai City 1 As the famous Tamil poetess AUVAYYAR says in Her Legendary presentation of cluster of hymns “Kovil illatha ooril kudi irukkathe” Please don’t reside in a place where there is no temple. The Statement of our forefathers is sacrosanct because the temple indicates that the community is graced by the presence of God and that its Citizens form a moral community. A Community identifies and is identified by others with its temples. It has been our ancient endavour to lead a pious life with full dedication to the services of the Lord. Sri Paramacharya of Kanchi Mutt has repeatedly called devotees and stressed the importance of taking care of old temples - which requires enormous power of men and money - instead of constructing new temples in cities. As you may be aware, there are thousands of temples in dilapidated condition and requires constant maintenance work to be undertaken. There are many shiva lingas of ancient temples found under trees and also while digging. In ancient times, these lingas were 'Moolavars' of temples built by several kings. After conquests and devastations by foreign invaders, Indian temples were destructed and the sacred deities were thrown away and many were broken. The left out deities are found later. Of them, some are unidentified. Those who attempt to construct temples for gods are freed from the sins of a thousand births. Those who think of building a temple in their minds are freed from the sins of a hundred births. Those who contribute to the cause of a temple are bestowed with divine virtues and blessings.

Balasubramanian [email protected] A short life sketch of Shri Appayya DikShita (1520-1593 AD) Shrimad Appayya DikShita was born at Adayapalam village, very near Arni, North Arcot District, Tamil Nadu in the year 1520 AD. His father Shri Rangarajadhari was the son of Shri Acharya DikShita - also known as VakShasthalacharya who was in the court of Shri Krishnadevaraya. “Appayya” was an endearing form of his real name, Vinayaka Subramaniam. “The 16th century AD, in South India was an age of confusion when begotry and vigorous proselytism were rampant. Persecution of one sect by another with the help of the ruling dynasties was quite common. In such an age, the need was felt for a rare scholar with comprehensive vision and imagination, whose mission in life would be the reconciliation of the various creeds, cults and philosophies.
