Inside the Hannah Storm Foundation's Celebrity Waiter Night Fundraiser Inside the Hannah Storm Foundation's Celebrity Waiter Night fundraiser By DAVID CAPLAN [email protected] October 28, 2015 Hannah Storm is passionate about a lot of things. As an anchor of ESPN's SportsCenter, sports is obviously at the top of that list. But she also is dedicated herself to children's health. For example, the Hannah Storm Foundation raises awareness and funds surgeries for children around the world living with vascular birthmarks and whose parents cannot afford the cost of surgery. The foundation held its Celebrity Waiter Night hosted by Storm on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at Manhattan's New York Athletic Club. Athletes, media professionals and other public figures volunteered as waiters, serving food and drinks to guests. "Celebrity Waiter Night was an amazing evening for the Hannah Storm Foundation," Storm says. "This is a cause I hold close to my heart, and I couldn't have asked for a better group of celebrity waiters, presenters, honorees, auction item donors and guests to help support the foundation." Honorees at the event were Dr. Milton Waner, director of the Vascular Birthmarks Institute of New York at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, and William T. Sullivan, the president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York. Kate White, former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, also served as a presenter. Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts June 2015 Acknowledgements I owe a tremendous amount of thanks to the advisors and professors who have helped me through this rigorous process. I would like to thank Professor Gabriela Martínez for her patience and guidance in helping me select a topic, Professor Monique Balbuena for helping me focus on the key aspects to my thesis, and Rebecca Force for her insight into the world of broadcasting and her ability to keep a smile on my face during this extensive and demanding procedure. I also want to thank Lori Shontz for being an incredible instructor, mentor, and cheerleader during the completion of this thesis and my pursuit of a career in sports journalism. This thesis would not have been possible without the guidance and support of these women. In addition, I owe the utmost thanks to my family for their constant support during the past few months and the extent of my academic career. Thank you for teaching me that with perseverance, hard work, and a “Win the Day” mentality, anything is possible.
