NEWS LETTER APRIL 2018 From the Chair: The amount of Bullmastiff fanciers / owners that also have other breeds living in their home is quite amazing. There are Boerboels, Jack Russell’s, Borzoi, German Shepherd Dogs, Spaniels and the all- time favourite – the ‘mixed - grill special’ to name a few. All are loved in equal quantities and provide the companionship and love us humans so desire from our dogs. Featured in this newsletter are just a few. What a treat Beverley Thole and her Boerboel Sunethe Potgieter & her Borzoi Helene Burger & her wire- haired fox terrier Master Kritzinger with Jack Russell Ina Jenkins with her Great Dane & her Scottie X Boerboel & Bullmastiff belonging to June Kelly Bullmastiff Harley and x- breed Rusty belonging to Robin Marks Lucia Schmutz with x-breed and GSD & her brother Samuel with his friend Rischbieter family dogs Nicky & her Jack Russell Hahnebeck menagerie And the CBC’s top Bullmastiff ‘Balto’ relaxes with his new buddy ‘Sureigny’. Both belong to Ria Steyn. ************************* SARGETHRUST BULLMASTIFFS JOHAN SMITH And a response from Johan Smith in respect of the February 2018 Newsletter – Contracts/ deposits; “We have been asking for deposits in principle for a few years since, as part of the booking and vetting process, it sifts out non -committed parties from serious buyers. We work on a committed waiting list which can be really challenging to maintain given the distance between our farm and most owners as well as the fact that I receive 5 to 10 enquiries per day. However, I’ve never asked for a deposit transfer before birth. In my opinion the ability to ask for a deposit is also about trust and reputation (which goes both ways) between breeder and buyer. A deposit should, in my opinion, always be refundable up until the point that the pup has been collected by the new owner. Regardless of deposits, as much as the full amount should be refundable if significant issues are reported shortly thereafter following a formal vet inspection and report”. Note: this correspondence is now closed. ******************** Next month, May, is APT and DMA month – any fanciers who want to proceed with this test may apply through the Club or directly to the Doberman Club of the Cape. 12th & 13th May 2018 DID YOU KNOW: Ch.
