MEITZA Fiona Miller Brief History I was born into a farming family, where both my parents came from families that had dogs – my mothers’ family had Spaniels and Bullmastiffs although she decided to own/breed Pembroke Corgis in the 1950’s, my fathers’ family had Working Collies. I started showing the Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) in 1975, followed by Bullmastiffs in 1982 and in 2001 Australian Shepherds. I obtained my first Bullmastiff from the Leyrigg Kennel owned by Stan and Sadie Lowrie in 1982 and he was quickly followed by Madam Fee Fee of Leyrigg, who although not a show bitch was an excellent brood and produced 3 UK Champions in her only litter, two of these were my Ch Leyrigg French Pickle of Meitza and his brother Ch Careless Whisper at Meitza. When the boys retired from the show ring I contact the Bournevalley Kennel of Anne & Duncan Bowman and was lucky enough to be allowed to own a Bournevalley bitch puppy, who became Ch Bournevalley Misty at Meitza JW, she went on to become Top CC Winning Bullmastiff Bitch (1995). She was joined by Ch Bournevalley Okanagen at Meitza JW who was the top winning Bullmastiff Puppy (1995). A ‘Misty’ daughter that I had sold was mated to ‘Okanagen’ and I got a dog puppy from this litter, he became Ch Rock of Desire at Meitza JW. Judging I have awarded Challenge Certificates on 5 occasions in the UK, show/entries as follows: DATE SHOW ENTRY July 1994 National Working & Pastoral Breeds 64 May 1996 SKC 76 Sept 2000 Richmond 67 Aug 2004 SKC 56 Aug 2007 Southern Bullmastiff Society 164 I have judged in Europe on 2 occasions, show entries as follows: DATE SHOW ENTRY Jun 2004 Norwegian Bullmastiff Club 50 Apr 2008 Bullmastiff-Club Der Schweiz (BMCS) Switzerland 43 I am contracted to award Challenge Certificates at a further 2 Championship Shows, these are the Bullmastiff League Championship Show in July 2012 and a General Championship Show in May 2014 (full details of show still to be announced in Kennel Gazette). It is an honour to have been offered the opportunity to judge your 6th National Specialty show in 2014. Dr. William Crozier – Australia – Puppy Sweepstakes & Property Classes Here is a bit on Bill and his association with our breed. A Brief Snapshot With wife, Sylvia, entered the dog ring with English Cocker Spaniels circa 1978, at times, owned and showed English Pointers, an English Springer Spaniel, a Hungarian Vizsla and Welsh Springer Spaniels (the breed most-associated with). Under the Slyvkin prefix, we bred or owned more than 50 Champion Welsh Springer Spaniels in Australia or overseas, either in Conformation Showing (including Grand and Supreme Champions) or the many varied areas of Trialling. We now no longer breed or exhibit, preferring to concentrate on judging. Commenced judging in 1991 in the PAL Junior Handler competition before moving to Conformation Judging at Championship Shows, initially judging Gundogs in 1996, followed by Utility in 2000, Working Dogs in 2008 and Toys in 2010. Presently, enrolled in Terrier Group. In the Utility Group, I have judged on 51 occasions (up to the end of 2013), including Specialty Show appointments in Samoyeds, Saint Bernards, Siberian Huskies, Boxers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Bullmastiffs and the Utility Dog Club of NSW Inc. Specifically, in Bullmastiffs, I was honoured to have judged for the Bullmastiff Club of NSW Inc; in 2004 and overseas in South Africa for the Bullmastiff Club of Southern Africa in 2007. Since starting to judge Utility in 2000, Bullmastiffs have always featured strongly in my group judging and, on quite a few occasions in Australia or overseas, I have awarded Best-in-Group to a fine example of a Bullmastiff. Similarly, many times Bullmastiffs have featured in my class-in-group awards, with different age class awards going to more than one example of the breed within the group on occasions. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to discuss Bullmastiffs in the early 2000s with breed specialists (such as Alan and Mave Rostron from the UK, whose book resides with many appropriate others on our library shelves). There are many other interests, too numerous for this space, but anyone wanting to ask questions, I’m happy to talk at the National Bullmastiff show, which I am extremely honoured to have been invited to judge at. Dr. Bill Crozier Dinners & Seminars; Saturday Evening commencing at 6:30pm – Spit Roast and general get together followed by; * National Bullmastiff Lymphoma Study (proposed) – Talk given by Professor Peter Williamson of Sydney University on where they are up to and what is still to happen. * Proposed General Talk on the Breed and Q & A session - Special Guests talking about our breed past and present Sunday Evening commencing at 7:00pm – Buffet dinner, presentation of trophies and closing ceremony.
