All cattle passports must accompany each animal. Open classes are restricted to stock that is quartered within a 30 mile radius of Butterton. This area takes in such places as Ashbourne, , , , Chapel en le Frith, Congleton, Macclesfield, Matlock, and the Potteries. Local classes are for people who live or keep stock in the Manifold Parishes which is set out at the front of this schedule. Entries should reach the section organiser no later than one week prior to the show. ELIGIBILITY FOR ENTRY: This is a Shire Horse Society Affiliated Show and entries will not be accepted from any person who has been removed from the membership of that Society or who has been excluded from exhibiting for prizes at Shows or from taking part in any Show organised by the Society.

The Show is a points accumulator for the Derbyshire and District Shire Horse Association Foal Championship, open to paid up members of the Association only.

SHIRE HORSE SOCIETY RULES

The Shire Horse Society is pleased to award Silver Spoons and the conditions are:

1. A Spoon and Rosette for the Best Mare or Filly exhibited in the Shire Classes whose mother shall have been a member of the Local Society for not less than six months previous to the last date of entry for the Show.

2. If not already a member, the winner of the Special Prize must become a member of the Shire Horse Society.

3. Entries cannot be accepted at Affiliated Shows for Shires or Heavy Horses for any person who has been removed from membership of the Shire Horse Society or has been excluded from exhibiting for prized at Shows, Sales or Exhibitions or from taking part in any Show organised by the Shire Horse Society.

4. No animal to be eligible to take more than one Silver Spoon during any one year, the Royal and Shire Horse Society Shows being excepted.

5. THE WINNING ANIMAL MUST BE REGISTERED IN THE STUD BOOK OR GRADE ‘B’ REGISTER.

6. The Judge invited to officiate must be on the Society’s official panel and has the right to withhold the award of the Silver Spoon and Rosette if insufficient merit is shown.

7. The winning animal must be free from hereditary disease.

8. The Council reserve the right in offering their spoons to award them only to persons approved by the Shire Horse Society and subject to confirmation in the uncontrolled discretion of the Council.

9. TIME LIMIT. Official returns of awards of Spoons must be completed within one month from the date of the Show, otherwise such awards will become void.

Eligibility: Entrants must take part in one of the two ring events in order to qualify for the drive.

Class 186, 187 and 188 are qualifiers for the 2016 Osborne Refrigerators BDS National Championships at Driving Addington on 24 September. The highest placed turnout owned and driven by a member of the British Driving Society and eligible for the following Type- Section/s disregarding those already qualified down to 6th place(10th place for type sections (n) – (q)) in the class will qualify for the 2016 Semi-finals at Driving Addington. The Championship will immediately follow the Semi-Finals.

IMPORTANT REGULATIONS RELATING TO HORSE & PONY SECTION Horses and Ponies must be ridden by their regular riders if owners are not local residents. Horses and Ponies under four years of age may be shown in hand but not under saddle or ridden. The judges have the right to move any entry from an inappropriate class. Hard Hats with Chin Straps and adequate footwear must be worn at all times whilst mounted. All classes marked as local are restricted to local exhibitors. The Manifold Valley Bygones Group will be staging a display of Bygones and Memorabilia. This will include vintage tractors, stationary engines and other vintage agricultural machinery.

Two Slow Tractor Race Classes will be held in the main ring during the afternoon. One will be for single speed gearbox machines, the other for split gearboxes.

SUBSCRIPTIONS: Ordinary Membership – Cost £10.00: You will receive one Member’s Wristband and one Member’s Guest Wristband, both of which will gain you access to the Showground for one person. Member and Guest are entitled to use the Members Marquee. Meals or sandwiches are available to purchase. Reduced entry fees to show classes is limited to the Member only.

Family Membership – Cost £20.00: You will receive two Members’ Wristbands and two Members’ Guest Wristbands, each of which will entitle the holder to the benefits described above.

With Family Membership all the immediate family of the person applying for membership will be entitled to reduced entry fees to show classes.

The MANIFOLD VALLEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The Society was formed to foster competition and fellowship within the rural community of the parishes bounding the course of the .

Generally, entrants at the Show are limited to those who reside, own or rent property in these parishes. There are exceptions to this rule for the Heavy Horse section, the Rare Breeds, a number of the Cattle and Craft Classes and for all of the Pet Classes and Driving section.

It is hoped that this policy will encourage local youngsters and new entrants to the showing world.

Membership of the Society has many advantages, including free admission to the Show for you and your family, the use of the Members Marquee and it’s bar. There is also the benefit of reduced Entry fees.

THE GEORGE RICHARDSON MEMORIAL BURSARY

George Richardson was President of the Society for ten years and had been involved since the creation of the Society twenty four years ago. In memory of his contribution the Committee decided that it’s annual Student Bursary awarded to students about to embark on a higher education should be renamed the “George Richardson Memorial Bursary”. The amount awarded is generally in the region of £300-£400 per year.

Applications are now invited for the George Richardson Bursary for 2016. Any interested students should contact Mark Simcock on 07971 961570 for full details. Application forms are also available on the MVAS web site.

Students should be local, that being resident in one of parishes bounding the course of the River Manifold, as listed on the inside of the front cover. Applications should reach the secretary no later than 30th September 2016.
