Postal Bulletin 22026 (6-15-00) PUBLISHED SINCE MARCH 4, 1880 PB 22026, June 15, 2000 June 2000 DISTRICT MANAGERS, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SALES POSTMASTERS SUBJECT: Promoting the Legends of Baseball Stamps Through the U.S. commemorative stamp program, the Postal Service continues to help preserve traditions that speak to the heart of America and to honor those people, places, and events that impact our lives. With the issuance of the Legends of Baseball stamps, we have a wonderful opportunity to demon- strate our role as a community leader by coordinating local events to help celebrate one of our coun- try’s greatest traditions and America’s favorite pastime. Over the past year, the Postal Service has partnered with Major League Baseball to develop this pane of stamps honoring 20 of baseball’s greatest players. The events surrounding the issuance of these stamps will give our customers, employees, friends, and family an opportunity to share in the pride and glory of All-Star Week this year. The stamps will be issued July 6 in conjunction with the “Club MLB Road Show” at International Plaza in Atlanta. In addition to sales that day at Atlanta post offices and at the Club MLB Road Show, the stamps will be sold at a Postal Service retail booth at the John Hancock All-Star FanFest July 7–11. The week’s festivities end with the 71st All-Star Game at Turner Field. We invite employees living in the Atlanta area, and those planning on visiting, to attend the first day of issue ceremony and to consider participating in other scheduled activities. We believe these stamps will be very popular with sports fans, history buffs, and stamp collectors from coast to coast. Therefore, we encourage you to support local “second day of issue” events to help the Postal Service “hit one out of the park.” This edition of the Postal Bulletin contains a Legends of Baseball stamps Field Kit to use as a guide for event planning and publicity. Please note that only approved licensees listed in this kit have Postal Service approval to produce products. We thank you for your ongoing support of the stamp program. CLARENCE E. LEWIS, JR. c !/9%4 BY THE COMPTROLLER GENERAL Report To The Chairman, Post Office And Civil Service Committee House Of Representatives OF Tt-iEUNITED STATES Replacing Post Offices With Alternative Services: A Debated But Unresolved Issue The Postal Service could save between ~ $125 and $150 million annually by 1990 if it replaced about 7,000 limited mail service post offices with publicly acceptable alter- native mail services.
