CALL THE MIDWIFE, one of the most popular dramas on PBS, returns for its eighth season. The series is set in impoverished East London in the 1950s and 1960s, and follows a group of nurse-midwives at Nonnatus House, a nursing convent. The drama is originally based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

Season eight moves into the spring of 1964, and anticipation is building for a new royal baby. Community-minded Violet is hold- ing a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and raising funds through a compe- tition on whether the Queen will have a boy or a girl. Sundays at 6:00 p.m. beginning March 31st (3-1 & 3-2)
