One of the awards season’s premier events, the SAG Awards annually celebrates the outstanding motion pictures and television performances from the previous calendar year. Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely by performers’ peers in SAG-AFTRA. The SAG Awards was the first televised awards show to acknowledge the work of union members and the first to present awards to motion picture casts and television ensembles. Two nominating panels — one for television and one for film — each composed of 2,200 randomly selected union members from across the United States, chose this year’s nominees. Final voting information will be mailed via postcard on Wednesday, Dec. 16 to 116,741 SAG-AFTRA members in good standing across the country, who may vote on all categories. In keeping with the SAG Awards’ commitment to sustainable practices, online voting is encouraged and paper ballots are available only upon request received by Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. All votes must be received at Integrity Voting Systems by noon on Friday, Jan. 29. Results will be tallied and sealed until the envelopes are opened by the presenters live onstage at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Jan. 30, 2016. The Screen Actors Guild Post-Awards Gala benefiting the SAG-AFTRA Foundation will be hosted for the 20th consecutive year by PEOPLE and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF). • Animated Stereotypes –
Animated Stereotypes – An Analysis of Disney’s Contemporary Portrayals of Race and Ethnicity Alexander Lindgren, 36761 Pro gradu-avhandling i engelska språket och litteraturen Handledare: Jason Finch Fakulteten för humaniora, psykologi och teologi Åbo Akademi 2020 ÅBO AKADEMI – FACULTY OF ARTS, PSYCHOLOGY AND THEOLOGY Abstract for Master’s Thesis Subject: English Language and Literature Author: Alexander Lindgren Title: Animated Stereotypes – An Analysis of Disney’s Contemporary Portrayals of Race and Ethnicity Supervisor: Jason Finch Abstract: Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently one of the world’s largest producers of animated content aimed at children. However, while Disney often has been associated with themes such as childhood, magic, and innocence, many of the company’s animated films have simultaneously been criticized for their offensive and quite problematic take on race and ethnicity, as well their heavy reliance on cultural stereotypes. This study aims to evaluate Disney’s portrayals of racial and ethnic minorities, as well as determine whether or not the nature of the company’s portrayals have become more culturally sensitive with time. To accomplish this, seven animated feature films produced by Disney were analyzed. These analyses are of a qualitative nature, with a focus on imagology and postcolonial literary theory, and the results have simultaneously been compared to corresponding criticism and analyses by other authors and scholars. Based on the overall results of the analyses, it does seem as if Disney is becoming more progressive and culturally sensitive with time. However, while most of the recent films are free from the clearly racist elements found in the company’s earlier productions, it is quite evident that Disney still tends to rely heavily on certain cultural stereotypes.

19 CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This chapter presents how the researcher collected and analyzed the data. Research method consists of research design, data source, instrument of the research, data collection, and technique of data analysis. A. Research Design This research use a descriptive qualitative method to identify and analyze translation techniques in translating Judy‘s Utterances in Zootopia movie. According to Arikunto (1993: 208), there is no hypothesis in descriptive research as it only describes a phenomenon without any hypothesis. This research was carried out by formulating the problem, collecting data, classifying data, analyzing data, and drawing the conclusion and some suggestion. B. Data Source The data of this research were taken from The Subtitle Text of Zootopia movie. Zootopia is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated buddy cop comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 55th Disney animated feature film. • Psycho Killers, Circus Freaks, Ordinary People: a Brief History of the Representation of Transgender Identities on American TV Series
Psycho Killers, Circus Freaks, Ordinary People: A Brief History of the Representation of Transgender Identities on American TV Series Abstract: In 1965, popular TV Series The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (NBC) aired the episode “An Unlocked Window”, in which it is revealed that the nurses killer in the area is a transvestite. It was the first time a transgender character appeared on a TV series, and until the late 80s that was the most stereotypical and basic – because it was minimal – representation of transsexuals on broadcast TV series and films: as psychopaths and serial killers. Other examples are Aldo Lado’s Who Saw Her Die? (1972), Brian de Palma’s Dressed to Killed (1980), Robert Hiltzick’s Sleepaway Camp (1983) and Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Throughout the 90s the paradigm changed completely and transsexual characters became much more frequent. However, the change was not for good, as they were turned now into objects of mockery and disgust in comedy TV series and films, in which the protagonist heterosexual male was “deceived” into kissing or having sex with an “abhorrent” trans just as a comic device. In the comedies Soapdish (1991), Ace Ventura (1994), and Naked Gun 33 1/3 (1994), the male protagonist ends up literally throwing up when he realizes that the girl he had been kissing was not born a female. Friends (1994-2004) and Ally McBeal (1997-2002) are also series of the late 90s in which the way transgender characters are represented is far from being appropriate.
