Since the last newsletter, we have invited speakers on a diverse range of subjects – Patrick Bronte, father of the Bronte sisters, shoplifting, and latterly the development of Earls Court, Aristocracy to Aussies. We were certainly intrigued by the revelations about shoplifters and the vigilance needed by security in departmental stores and I certainly had not known of the origins of the Earls Court area with its connections to famous families/houses including Zetland (Shetland), Northumberland, Warwick and Percy.
