MIAMI UNIVERSITY the Graduate School Certificate for Approving The
MIAMI UNIVERSITY The Graduate School Certificate for Approving the Dissertation We hereby approve the Dissertation of Susan Pelle Candidate for the Degree: Doctor of Philosophy _____________________________________ Director Dr. Stefanie Kyle Dunning _____________________________________ Reader Dr. Madelyn M. Detloff _____________________________________ Reader Dr. Kathleen N. Johnson _____________________________________ Graduate School Representative Dr. Emily A. Zakin ABSTRACT (DIS)ARTICULATING BODIES AND GENDERS: PUSSY POLITICS AND PERFORMING VAGINAS by Susan Pelle The vagina has metaphorically and metonymically been the body part that stands in for the category “woman” and it is this emphatic and fabricated link that imposes itself on bodies, psyches, and lives with often horrifying consequences. My goals in exploring performative and performing vaginas are many. I not only lay out how, why, and in what ways the “normal” and “abled” female body established in both dominant and mainstream discourses is, simply put, one with a specific type of vagina, but I also confront the “truth” that vaginas purport to tell about women and femininity. Ultimately, I maintain that representations of vaginas and the debates and discourses that surround them tell us something about our culture’s fears, anxieties, and hopes. Living life as abject can be painful, even unbearable, yet as individuals negotiate this life they can experience pleasure, assert agency, and express ethical and just visions of the world. The artists, writers, and performers explored in this dissertation strategically perform vaginas in multiple and disparate ways. As they trouble, resist, and negotiate “normative” understandings of vaginas, they simultaneously declare that the “problem” is not about bodies at all. The problem is not the vagina. -

General Thoughts There are two obstacles hindering a man’s ability to last longer in bed. First there is the incredible sensation of divine friction. Then there is your mind. While the STU can mimic the sublime, unmistakable sensation of intercourse, it cannot recreate the sounds, the intensity, or the passion of sex. However, just like the athlete who practices for hours a day by himself so that he will be ready to perform in a game, you can do the same. Learn the skills. Practice the techniques. Your body and mind will remember this training and when the moment arrives for you to perform, you will excel. A Word on Tantra Many of the tips, tactics and techniques offered herein are based in varying degrees from teachings of the Tantric Arts. This is not by accident. Art of Anal Masturbation
Jan 07, 2014 12:26 +08 Art of Anal Masturbation Anal play can be an enjoyable, stimulating and intensely erotic form of sexual exploration, both for men and women. For novices, however, the tools and preparation can seem a little daunting without some guidance. Thankfully, there's a wealth of sex toys, techniques and lubricant varieties out there made specifically to make anal masturbation more exciting and pleasurable, if you know how to use them. Here are some helpful tips to get you - and possibly your partner too! - started on the path to backdoor bliss: Anal Douche: The process of douching involves filling a specially designed anal douche or bulb with comfortably warm water (be sure to test it first to make sure it isn't too hot!) and gently squeezing it into the anus via an insertable tube or stem. This "flushing" action helps clean the user inside and out for worry free play, and many find it fun to incorporate douching as foreplay by itself. Always follow the manufacturer's directions when using a douche, and feel free to partake no matter what your gender or gender expression - it's safe for everyone to try. Anal Sex Toys: Using a dildo to stimulate the anus and anal cavity can be incredibly fulfilling, but be sure to use a plug, vibrator or dildo that has a "flanged" base - a base that is wider than the part being inserted - to ensure easy and safe retrieval when the fun is done. Silicone toys are an excellent choice for anal sex play, as they can be boiled or bleached in a 10% solution to keep them sanitary between uses. -

Of Dolls and Men: Anticipating Sexual Intimacy with Robots
13 Of Dolls and Men: Anticipating Sexual Intimacy with Robots NORMAN MAKOTO SU, Indiana University Bloomington AMANDA LAZAR, University of Maryland JEFFREY BARDZELL and SHAOWEN BARDZELL, Indiana University Bloomington Sex and intimate technologies are important in people’s everyday lives. A class of technologies that is becoming increasingly more prominent in discussions of the future are sex robots. In this article, we present a qualitative analysis of posts from a forum where people describe their interactions with sex dolls and their motivations for using them through text and photographs. Forum users use dolls as a content authoring interface, imbue them with agency, and construct meaningful sexual relationships with them. Implications for the design of future robots and autonomous agents in humans’ everyday lives are discussed. We highlight that sex dolls are used for more than just sex; they provide fertile ground for embodied fictions and care of the self. Future, customizable technologies for sexual intimacy and wellness should account for this use. The reasoning is as follows: humans readily establish meaningful relationships with non-human entities such as pets (real, virtual, or robotic), robots, and virtual agents. -

Keeping It Safe- a Sexual and Reproductive Health Guide for Same-Sex-Attracted Women
Keeping It Safe- A sexual and reproductive health guide for same-sex-attracted women ConsentSafer Sex Let’s talk about sex… familyplanning.org.nz Penetration Keeping It Safe- This resource is for women who have sex with women; occasionally, regularly or are just thinking about it. The focus is on cis-women (women who were born with female reproductive systems and genitals), although transmen (or cis-women who have sex with transmen) may also find parts of this resource useful. It aims to provide information to women who have sex with other women, regardless of their sexual identity (e.g. lesbian, queer, bisexual, gay, straight, butch, femme, dyke, or no expressed identity) or how that may change over time. It aims to help us make informed choices about our sexual practices whoever they may be with. It also aims to enable us to be assertive in dealing with health professionals. We acknowledge that same-sex attracted women have a wide range of different sexual experiences and desires. We have based this resource on the premise that the risks of sexually transmissible infections relate to behaviours not sexual orientation or sexual identity. 2 Keeping It Safe Let’s talk about sex… Let’s talk about sex… Communicating about sex is important, whether you are in a long–term monogamous relationship, specialise in a series of one night stands, or are somewhere and anywhere in between. Talking about sex can be embarrassing for many women, but it’s essential in checking out what is safe and comfortable, physically and emotionally. Negotiating our sexual practices can be both empowering and downright sexy. -
History, Consumer Practice and Cultural Texts About the Vibrator
Automatic Lover1 - History, Consumer Practice and Cultural Texts about the Vibrator Autoria: Luciana Castello da Costa Leme Walther Abstract: The idea for this exploratory study arose during a previous research on the emergence of a more overt female consumer of erotic products. The ethnographic method was used then, comprising in-depth interviews and participant observation at women-only sex shops in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is popularly and scholarly known as a highly sexualized culture. During interviews with shop attendants, an episode of “Sex and the City” was repeatedly mentioned as the reason for which the so-called Rabbit vibrator became the best sold item in all stores visited by the researcher. Therefore, studying the vibrator as a commoditized product and understanding the way consumers deal with its representation in cultural texts seemed like a promising path of investigation. Thus, the aim of this study is twofold: (1) to further understand, with a cultural approach, how women in Brazil create and negotiate meaning through erotic consumption; and (2) to examine, with a marketing approach, the effectiveness of product placement as a tool to market sex to women, considering consumers’ interpretive strategies. In this study, we applied Hirschman, Scott and Wells’ Model of Product Discourse (1998) to consumption practices and cultural texts about the vibrator. This model assumes that, in order to acquire meaning, any good must go through a process that will culturally construct it as a symbol and hierarchically place it amidst a product constellation or object system. Therefore, understanding how goods acquire meaning is as important as understanding what they mean.
