It is not a clearly defined event with formal conditions: it could lead to a wide range of possible outcomes and feelings in the listener. The bardic tradition that sweeps across human cultures and histories — from the Homeric ESSAY epics to the Sufis, from the biwa hoshi of Japan to the filí of Ireland — shows both the depth and breadth of the human impulse to hear verse aloud. But in our cosmopolitan present, poetry being “voiced” could run the gamut from adolescent (painful sincerity at an open mic) to adult (earnest readings at university book launches) to transhuman (Black Thought’s ten-minute freestyle). Though poetry always transports us somewhere, the destination could be anywhere in Dante’s universe: infernal, purgatorial, or paradisiacal. This particular poetry performance is, perhaps fittingly for the year 2020, set in that everyday limbo that is the cinema. It is consciously conceived for the large-scale screen — a crucial gesture, when so much life is being lived on small screens — and as a physical, collective experience, with an audience in plush CONTENTS BACK TO seats, bathed in light, feeling the powerful surround-sound system within their bodies. -

But hello and welcome anyway to the first Loose Ends of 2017, as we go forward into the New Year in a spirit of hope and optimism. Things can only get better – or to put it another way - things can scarcely get any worse. Though with Donald Trump just about to become leader of the free world, Boris Johnson already in post as Britain’s top diplomat and Jeremy Corbyn continuing to be leader of the opposition, who can be sure? But we crack on here with a studio-full of top line guests, even more smartly dressed than shoppers in a Tesco superstore, including the comedian and actor Hugh Dennis, star of Radio 4’s the Now Show, BBC 2’s Mock the Week and these days virtually every comedy drama broadcast on the TV, here to tell us about the programmes and the Lord of Misrule, which you’ve just been hearing from, which have taken charge of Radio 4 today. And the award winning comedian and Lady of Misrule, Bridget Christie, here because you demanded it, or at any rate to tell us about her stand up show called Because You Demanded It, which was one of the benefits of Brexit unpredicted by the so called experts. -
Actor Russell Tovey Gets Personal About His Art Collection
Embuscado, Rain. Actor Russell Tovey Gets Personal About His Art Collection. Artnet news. October 11, 2016. Actor Russell Tovey Gets Personal About His Art Collection He’s his artists’ biggest champion. By Rain Embuscado Celebrity Collectors is a series that explores the fascinating and mysterious world of high-profile art collections. Fans may recognize Russell Tovey as the beleaguered werewolf in BBC’s Being Human, Patrick’s love interest in HBO’s Looking, or, more recently, as the enigmatic new character on ABC’s runaway hit Quantico. But what may be lesser-known about the actor is his off-screen relationship with contemporary art—a serious passion he regularly touts on Instagram. I last saw Tovey on the fair circuit during this year’s Armory Show, where he was standing in front of an enormous contour drawing by legendary Young British Artist Tracey Emin at Carolina Nitsch‘s booth. These days, Tovey told me, he’s been on the gallery crawl in New York whenever he has a spare moment, making the occasional studio visit along the way. In a recent phone conversation, we talked about the artists he’s been interested in, the importance of collecting, and how he got into art. “As a kid I always connected to pop art through cartoons and comic books like Tintin and Marvel, and then discovering Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol,” he said. “I loved advertising art and people like Mel Ramos using that in his work, but I never realized that you could actually buy into art and live with it.” Tell us how you got into art. -

Synopsis Johnny Saxby works long hours in brutal isolation on his family’s remote farm in the north of England. He numbs the daily frustration of his lonely existence with nightly binge-drinking at the local pub and casual sex. When a handsome Romanian migrant worker arrives to take up temporary work on the family farm, Johnny suddenly finds himself having to deal with emotions he has never felt before. An intense relationship forms between the two which could change Johnny’s life forever. Long Synopsis Spring. Yorkshire. Johnny Saxby (24) carries the weight of his family’s dilapidating sheep farm alone. His formidable grandmother Deirdre (70) is now too old to work the land, whilst his father Martin (50), once a capable farmer, struggles in the aftermath of a stroke. Socially and geographically isolated and overwhelmed by the responsibility, yet too proud to accept any help, Johnny numbs his frustration with drink, dope and casual sex. -

The policies put in place to incentivise production and the broader development of the screen sector in Ireland operate across five year horizons. Even for individual productions, the gap between a greenlight for production and the actual appearance of the text via whatever primary platform may span several years. Bbc Worldwide Australia and New Zealand Announces Banished, First Local Production for Bbc First
12 March 2014 BBC WORLDWIDE AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND ANNOUNCES BANISHED, FIRST LOCAL PRODUCTION FOR BBC FIRST Following the award-winning and critically acclaimed Top of the Lake, BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand has announced its next local commission, which will screen on BBC First on Foxtel in 2015. Banished is an epic seven part series from award-winning writer/creator Jimmy McGovern (story producer Redfern Now) loosely inspired by events in the 18th century when Britain established a penal colony on the other side of the world. Starring David Wenham (Top Of The Lake), Russell Tovey (Being Human), Myanna Buring (Ripper Street), Julian Rhind-Tutt (The Hour) and Ryan Corr (Wolf Creek 2), the series starts filming in Sydney this April before moving to Manchester in the UK. The series has been co-commissioned by BBC Two in the UK and BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand. International award-winning independent production companies RSJ Films (Accused, The Street) and See-Saw Films (Top Of The Lake, The King’s Speech, Shame) have joined forces for the first time to co-produce Banished. The series will be the first locally produced show to screen on BBC Worldwide ANZ’s new premium drama and comedy channel BBC First, which will launch on Foxtel in August this year. Natalie Edgar, Director of Television BBC Worldwide ANZ, said: “This is a very exciting first commission for BBC First. It exemplifies all the things that BBC drama stands for with outstanding talent on both sides of the camera. Jimmy McGovern has been responsible for some of the most ground-breaking drama series created over the years and after the huge success of Top of the Lake I’m delighted to be working with See-Saw Films again as well as the talented team at RSJ.” This ambitious co-production charts the lives, loves, relationships and battle for survival of a group of convicts, the marines that guard them and men who govern them in the early days of this settlement. -

Annual Report 2021 LIONS GATE ENTERTAINMENT CORP. To Our Shareholders: Fiscal 2021 was an extraordinary year marked by the global pandemic and unprecedented industry change. Despite these challenges, I’m pleased to report that we continued to successfully execute on our guiding “North Star” principles of creating and delivering great content, continuing to build one of the top film and television libraries in the world, using our content platform to drive Starz’s growth into one of the leading premium global subscription platforms, and maintaining a motivated and entrepreneurial work force second to none. Our financial results reflected four strong quarters in a row as we reported fiscal 21 revenue of $3.3 billion, adjusted OIBDA of $541 million, and over $300 million in adjusted free cash flow, allowing us to reduce our net leverage ratio by more than a full turn. We also continued to bolster our capital structure by taking advantage of market conditions to refinance and extend our debt at lower rates. As a result, we ended the year with over $500 million in available cash, an untapped $1.5 billion revolver and a healthy balance sheet. Operationally, it was a year of strong subscriber growth at Starz, refilling our content pipelines with great films and television series, record library sales and setting up over a dozen movies for delivery in Fiscal 23 and 24 even as we successfully pivoted to alternative release strategies for many of our current films. Culturally, during a year in which the national conversation focused on critical issues of social justice and racial equality, we took important steps to increase the diversity, equity and inclusiveness of our workforce by launching new inclusive hiring policies, revamping our internship program to bring more women and racially diverse employees into our Company, and establishing DEI training for all employees.
