Parish Newsletter May 2017 Hollyfort Gorey Leskinfere Ballycanew Palm Sunday in Leskinfere. ‘Hosanna in the Highest!’ Parish Newsletter May 2017 The parishes were gathered together on Easter Saturday for the funeral service of Mr Jack Willoughby who passed away at the beginning of Holy Week. Jack had been unwell for quite some time and passed away surrounded by his loved ones in Gorey District Hospital where he received the most wonderful care. Our deepest condolences to Esther and all the family. The condolences of the parishes are extended to the Saville family on the recent passing of Mr Tom Saville, father of Mrs Hazel Donnelly and brother of Mrs Esther Willoughby. The condolences of the parishes are extended to Mrs Iris Stephens and her family on the recent passing of her uncle Mr. Gould whose funeral took place on Saturday April 29th last. Congratulations to The Reverend Paul A Neiland CF who has been promoted to the rank of Chaplain Third Grade, which is the equivalent of Major in the army. This promotion reflects the excellent work Paul has been carrying out over the past number of years and we look forward to seeing him over Easter at our services. A new chalice for use in St. John’s Church, Hollyfort has been obtained from The Representative Church Body. This allows the current silver to be deposited in the RCB Library for safe keeping as they are very old and better preserved for posterity than allowed to deteriorate. In order for anyone to assist in parish events where young people are involved they must complete a Garda Vetting form. Please contact the Rector for a form and advice on how to complete it. Only those who have completed Garda vetting and Safe Guarding Trust training can be permitted to assist in youth events in the parishes. Congratulations to The Gorey Growlers Men’s Group on the success of their charity fashion show on April 21st last. The Growlers, ably led by Mrs Lesley Bayley, put on a show worthy of any London fashion week and raised a great deal of money. On April 28th at a Songs of Praise in Leskinfere Church each charity-NCBI, the Irish Wheelchair Association and Talk to Tom-received €1103 each. This certainly shows that not only can the Growlers sing but they can trip the light fantastic and raise funds for charity as well. Who knows what new talents will appear next from this merry band of men?? Sunday School in Ballycanew. Following on from a discussion at a select vestry meeting in St. Mogue’s Parish, it was decided to gauge interest in setting up a Sunday School for the children of the parish. A letter was sent out to the families concerned and I am delighted to say that there was a very positive response. Garda vetting is currently underway and a Safe Guarding Trust training evening is being organised in order for our Sunday School to get underway as soon as possible. Sunday School training will take place on Saturday May 27th in Leskinfere Old School from 9.30am till 1pm. It is being conducted by The Children’s Ministry, Dublin and it will be a leader’s workshop. Please contact Mrs. Irish Stephens at 0976658674 to book your place. Parish halls. We are very lucky in our group of parishes to have 4 excellent parish halls. However the demands for hall space is growing all the time so if any group wishes to book one of the halls they must make sure that they have in place group insurance and a child protection policy if a youth activity group. Groups must also agree with the parish the fact that the hall may be needed unexpectedly for a parish event such as a funeral at short notice. The clergy of the parish do not deal with hall bookings but can put groups in touch with the contact person in each parish. They are: Gorey Mrs Patricia Masterson 0868683525, Ballycanew Mr Clinton Furney 0879010211, Hollyfort Mrs Noeleen Grannell 0863230561 and Leskinfere Mrs Valerie Copeland 0870573656. Welcome little one! We welcome the arrival of little Arlo Galkine who was born at the end of April to Vivienne and Michael Galkine, a brother for Sasha and Paige. Easter vestry returns will be in next month’s newsletter. Prayers: Your prayers are asked for all those who are unwell at this time. A good number of people are unwell and would appreciate our prayers. Please also remember those who are undergoing hospital treatment at the moment. Please do let the clergy know if a loved one is in hospital as it is no longer permitted by HSE regulations for hospital chaplains to inform parish clergy as to who is in hospital so if the parish clergy are not told by family then they cannot visit parishioners in hospital. Prayers at Dawn on Easter Day. Happy Golden Wedding anniversary to Harry and Irene Poole. The annual Christ Church Gorey Eco Dine to Help Event will take place this year on Tuesday May 16th. Help fund-raise for Christ Church whilst enjoying excellent food and company at Eco-a landmark local restaurant. Simply call in-though booking is advised-from 12 Midday till late and have a meal with friends or order a takeaway and a percentage of your bill will go to support Christ Church. Great raffle prizes will be up for grabs on the day too. To book a table please contact Eco on 0538421100. 0539421100 [email protected] Thursday 27th April 2017 Dear Parent / Guardian, It is with regret that I must inform you all that Mrs Sandra Horan advised me this week of her intention to retire as Principal of Gorey Central School before the end of September 2017. Mrs Horan has been considering this for some time and she has finalised her decision now. Mrs Horan worked in several other schools before joining Gorey Central where she has remained for the past 22 years, firstly as Classroom Teacher, then as Deputy Principal and, for the last 12 years, as Principal. Whilst I am very sad to see her go, I am delighted that Mrs Horan can now look forward to spending more time with family, friends and leisure activities. Mrs Horan's contribution to the life and well-being of this school can never be measured but I do hope you will all join me in wishing Mrs Horan and her family every good wish and health for this next and exciting chapter in their lives. During the next few weeks the Board of Management will begin the process of filling her position. Additional information will be advised to the parent body as the process develops. On behalf of the Board of Management of Gorey Central School, Yours sincerely, Canon Mark Hayden, Chairperson. This was. the culminating point of several days of feverish activity amongst the leaders of the Irish Republican movement in Co. Wexford since Easter Monday when the Dublin Brigade made their effort in Dublin and district. A few hours later the tricolour was hoisted over the. Athenaeum, the local town hall, and three volleys were fired to salute it. This was a thrilling moment but I think the early morning volleys ringing out over the Slaney, which flows past the barracks, caused the greatest thrill, as I thought at the time they were the first shots fired against the old enemy in Enniscorthy since the battle of Vinegar Hill on June 21st, 1798. Although I did not take part in any shooting during the week (the attacks were called off early as, it was the leaders' intention to pin the R.I.C. in their barracks), I was busily engaged on routine work until the surrender on Sunday night. Outposts were set up on all the main roads and by-roads leading into town and scouting parties were sent out in various directions.

  • Directory of Local Parenting Programmes
Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9259821 Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9421374 Dear Service Provider “Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People is a National directive whose aim is to provide one clear pathway to services for all children and young people with a disability, focusing on the needs of the child/young person and their family”. As part of this directive the HSE formed a Local Implementation Group comprising of HSE personnel involved in the delivery of Paediatric Services. Parent, Department of Education and Section 39 Voluntary agency representatives will also become involved in this process as we move forward. While reviewing current service provision it became apparent that there was a lack of awareness of all the support services that are available for children and their parents in the Wexford area. In order to address this deficit we have put together the attached directory of local supports both Voluntary and HSE run in County Wexford. This directory includes: Parenting Programmes Advocacy Groups Mother and Toddler Groups National Disability Organisations This list while comprehensive is not an exhaustive therefore we would appreciate it if you could inform us of any new developments or groups which may not have been included. We would be grateful if you could distribute this directory to any group or parent whom you feel would benefit from the information. THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.
