Northern Conference Playoff Teams TONIGHT’S GAME – The Colorado Eagles take on the San Diego Gulls tonight in the second game of a two-game, weekend series. THE SERIES – Colorado will face San Diego eight times this season, with four of those games taking place at the Budweiser Events Center. The Gulls lead the season series, 4-0. The Eagles are 0-0-1 against San Diego at the BEC after falling 2-1 in a shootout last night. THE ALL-TIME SERIES – The Eagles are 5-5-2 all-time against the Gulls, including a 3-1-1 mark in games played at the BEC. EAGLES’ LAST GAME (12/13) – San Diego goaltender Kevin Boyle made 41 saves on 42 shots and denied both shooters that he faced in a shootout to help the Gulls defeat the Colorado Eagles, 2-1 on Friday. Jayson Megna scored the Eagles only goal on the night, while goalie Hunter Miska delivered another strong performance in net, denying 33 of the 34 shots he faced in 65 minutes of action. The shootout loss did secure a point in the standings for Colorado but extends the Eagles winless streak to five games. GULLS’ LAST GAME (12/13) – Same as above.     BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Swayman was also named to the CCM/AHCA All-American First Team and was a Hobey Hat Trick Finalist. Swayman is the fourth player in Hockey East history to collect the award in its seven-year history. Earlier this year, Swayman was named the 2019-20 Hockey East Player of the Year, the first Maine goaltender to win Hockey East’s top individual honor and the first Black Bear to be so named since Spencer Abbot in 2011-12. During the Hockey East regular season, Swayman led the league in saves (782), save percentage (.932) and tied for the lead in shut outs (3) while his 12 wins in Hockey East tied for second. The junior’s 782 saves in conference action is the 10th-most of any goaltender in league history and the highest single-season total since 2010-11. Swayman’s 2.27 goals against average in league play was fourth-best among conference netminders. Overall, Swayman carried a record of 18-11-5 and led the NCAA in saves with 1,099 stops. His save percent- age of .939 ranked second among all goaltenders in the nation, while his 2.07 goals against average was good for 15th in the country.
