PRN Number Site Name Record Type 02083 - MST2074 Thickbroome Deserted Settlement Place The site of a settlement since the middle ages, possibly at Thickbroom Farm or perhaps to the south west. Thought to have been deserted in the 17th century, no earthwork remains of a settlement have been seen in this area.

Monument Types and Dates DESERTED SETTLEMENT (Norman to POST MEDIEVAL - 1066 AD to 1699 AD) Evidence DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE

Description and Sources Description Deserted Settlement: The suggested location of Thickbroome deserted medieval settlement. <1> <2> <3>

There is documentary evidence from the Lay Subsidy returns of 1327 and 1332 for a settlement at 'Thickbroome', probably in the vicinity of Thickbroome Farm. Its precise locality is unknown, though the present farm and house are obvious possible candidates. (JM, 22/8/03) <4>

No features or significant finds were identified during topsoil stripping for the construction of the M6 Toll Road. (JM, 27/8/03) <5>

The settlement was probably deserted in the 17th century. (SB, 18-Aug-2004) <6>

Thickbroom is shown on Yates' Map of the county of 1775 and this infers a location in the vicinity of the 19th century Manley Hall to the south west.
